An interesting detail is how Big D hides info from specifically Marcus whereas he shares more with kitten and Door. I think it’s because of how easily Marcus can let things slip which would breach the masquerade. Remember in the pubbing audio log where Chapman, a ghoul, overheard what Marcus was saying and he wasn’t in the building at the time!

    • @mahpell7173

While it is a thing and probably part of the D's reasoning, it was well established in this audiolog that things are far beyond just a Masquerade breach. Besides, Chapman is a freshly refilled ghoul and chances are he was sent specifically to watch Marcus. There's no wonder he have heard their entire conversation.

I think it was ... alluded that chapman was either already inside the pub before marcus arrived or he entered after him without being noticed (just rewatch that part, no doorbell rang before chapman intervene). That vampire earing power (Auspex) would'nt allow to spy from outside a pub through a brick wall.
But otherwise yes, Marcus has a pride and an ego that simply cannot be tempered by pain alone. One leg broken and the other one shot one night and the very next one he's bragging at full volume about " a successfull vampire hunt ".

A cool lore detail about ghoul hunters, spoiler warning i guess.
There is a hunter who has true faith and has consumed so much vampire blood that the vampires literally have a rule to not fight him. The vampire blood makes him younger and more powerful so their hope is to wait till he dies of old age since they do not want to chance a fight with him just making him stronger

By "daywalker" they mean thinblood. AKA what happens when 13th gen and worse vampires sire other vampires.
Sometimes, the end result can barely be called a vampire. The vampirism is so diminished that they don't have any of the special abilities and can walk in sunlight.

They are not quite as "Daywalker" as we could say about "Blade" but somewhat close. As far as 3rd edition is concerned, thin-blood back then would still take damage from the sun, but its would be lethal one instead of aggravated (so it can be soak) and those are wound that could be healed normally with vitae instead of it healing by itself within a month. Vampire must do a roll every hour during wich they whised to remain awake, thin-blood either have half difficulty or dont have to roll that at all. Also, thin-blood start at 14th and end at 16th generation, 13th is still a fully blooded vampire.
They have a few more perks that make thin-blood stand apart of the rest vampire society. But as far as walking in the sun is concerned, that's about it... dunno if their meta changed a lot for 5th edition.

They’ve actually changed a ton in v5 as now with a merit they can gain complete immunity to sun light damage as the cost of halving their max health and not being able to use disciplines while out in it
And they’ve recently discovered a signature discipline “Thin blood alchemy” which basically allows them to cook up potions and drugs from other vamps vitae that can temporarily give them the other vamps disciplines…among other things.
In short they’re still pretty weak numbers wise but have a fun niche all their own
They don’t get can clan banes, they don’t frenzy, some of them can still even eat food and have biological children

in reference to "Solar Sorcery", Sorcery is something that anyone can theoretically learn, it's the Static form of Mage's Dynamic magic.

    • @thundergaming155
      @thundergaming155 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

To add to this the magic mages use is true magic, a form of magic that only they can use and is the same magic that allows them to and i quote big d on this “alter reality with their brains (before saying they are nerd that you can easily punch of course)”.

  • @oliviernaud4373
    @oliviernaud4373 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

    - The difference between mage and sorcerer is mostly its nature: Magic is for the awakened and is very dynamic and powerfull, sorcery is way less powerfull and more static and safer (and not prone to paradox). Sorcerer tend to not quite bend the universe to their will, but summon the power of... something to do it in their stead. Ex: praying to god to perform a miracle. Not quite your power giving you what you want, more a recipe that you know how to perform resulting in what the recipe say its supposed to produced. Those recipe are usually either found through trial and error (and some basic material/clues) or given from the power you try to invoke. those can include the power of angel and/or demon, the power of nature (Gaia and friends) and death (necromancy or wraith power). There is more specific power like whatever divinity speciality it is know for... also sometime, the ritual or power fail and... you just attract the attention of the true owner of that power... wich will wish to have a word about it with you.
    - All factions in the WOD have their version of the Armagedon. Usually the players start from a position where they wish to find their place of safety in the world of darkness, while the opposition want to take everything from them or destroy it all in the process. The further the game progress, the deeper you go down that rabbit hole and the bigger the cthulhu thing at the bottom seem all encompassing. Vampire have their progenitor rising from their sleep and devouring them all. Werewolf also have their huge wyrm trying to eat everything that exist (something something cycle of life), the wraith have Oblivion trying to return all not alive thing to a more permanent non-existence state. And then you have mage that can see and travel through all of creation... but must meet and battle existence at its edge trying to creep in. Basically, everyone have a scenario where they could trigger a Tyranid hive fleet to come from outside of the universe and devour all.

I think this better said in a -paraphrased- quote in Cardcaptor Sakura "anyone can make magic if you follow the rules already stablished but only the very rare, truly gifted and powerful can make magic while following their own rules", in other words, true mages make their own rules while sorcerers "borrow" power by following said rules, the thing is that sometimes mages may unintentionally "leak" power that gradually warp reality around them, while if sorcerers make a mistake in a ritual, usually nothing happens

Yep, to put it simply, Static Magic (Sorcery) is like a math's test. There are clear cut right and wrong answers, and if you follow the correct formula, you will get the result you want.
Dynamic Magic (True Magick/Enlightened Science/etc.) on the other hand, is like a creative writing exercise. There is no definite "right" or "wrong" answer, and is instead reliant on your mastery and understanding of the concept of how to simply write something. However, it just so happens that the person marking your work has a massive bias towards hard sci-fi.

Yes, but, in addition to that, sorcery can also be created by true magi, they can invent their sorcerous paths by integrating them into Consensis, as far as I recall. I don't think it's just a matter of D withholding guidance because he's unwilling to ever tell him. Although obviously a major half of it is indeed him being terrified of Marckus getting consumed by the supernatural like he already almost was.
I think part of the point is that Marckus is genuinely not ready to know all these things because he would immediately think he was able to control and master them and jump to trying it.
He's too overconfident and thinks he knows better, so he would ignore any warnings about danger from D and think he is clever enough to try and use vampire powers with no repercussions when his father couldn't do it.
Basically, Marckus doesn't respect the full danger of things until after it blows up in his face and thinks he's in control of a situation too easily.
Honestly, while D does need to be more honest and open it's also hard to say that his concerns and fears are unjustified.
So both his flaws and Marckus' flaws end up exacerbating each other and leading to a built up tension and lack of trust over their opposing attitudes about how dangerous making assumptions while poking the supernatural is.

On the topic of Eldritch creatures in Old World of Darkness...There are SEVERAL across the game-lines. ALL of them potent.
For Vampire, we have the Antediluvians: The Ancestors to the modern Vampire Clans. The books literally describe them as Blood Gods on Earth. Very dangerous. One in particular, Lasombra, is heavily connected to shadows and darkness.
For Werewolf....there are Three primordial forces. Two of which are antagonistic. The Weaver, and the Wyrm. The Weaver is a force of stasis. ALL shall follow its designs. The WYRM, on the other hand, is a force of stagnation and corruption. It got locked up by the Weaver, and went insane as a result.
For Mage....There are several eldritch beings. There are the Nephandi, which are mages that basically worship EVIL itself (or something like it)...The Technocracy are antagonists....but even they have to deal with their own worse bad guys. Threat Null, a faction that looks like an evil mirror to the Technocracy itself.
In Changeling...we have the Fomorians. They are basically the embodiment of Humanities NIGHTMARES (if I remember correctly).
In Wraith...we have Oblivion itself...and the Malfeans....The Malfeans are said to be the embodiment of the pain of death. VERY dangerous.
In Mummy....we have the serpent Apophis. This creature of destruction may or may not be an aspect of the Wyrm.
In Demon...we have the Earthbound. These former demons were summoned from Hell....but did not take human hosts. They were bound to idols or locations. Feeding off of their own torment and the faith of their thralls...they basically became eldritch abominations beyond demons.
In Kindred of the East...I don't know if Bruva Alfabusa will include it, but in Kindred of the East, we have entities called the Yama Kings, which (if I recall correctly) are akin to demon lords ruling over their own personal region of their infernal realm....AGAIN if I remember correctly.

Spot on, actually. Also Mages might also have to deal with stuff from the Weaver and Wyrm since they also dabble in Umbral stuff, and obviously the Technocracy is wound up tight in the Weaver's webs. Does that mean all the Technos are bad? No, but a lot of their higher ups are barely more than machines in how they act (and probably are). Oh, and the Baali for the vampires... and the Baali are basically demon-worshipping vampires who can re-Embrace other vampires into their Clan.

The true depths of evil D was talking about is the Tzimice clan. Clan Tzimice can sculp flesh into whatever their minds can think up. So, they can do many kinds of evil to victims. Think the Homunculi from 40k, but real. Or the Adeptus Mechanicus but replace tech with flesh, the body horror of Daemonculaba or Clan Moulder from the Skaven. And they are no less from their 40k, and Fantasy comparisons. It is actually quite skin crawling.
One of the most famous ones’ in WoD was none other than Vlad Tepes Dracul the third. Aka Vlad Tepes aka Vlad the Impaler, aka *Actual* Dracula. Who “conned his way to vampirism and is hated for becoming famous” for obvious lore reasons. Though being Tzimice was a shock because he, historically speaking, didn’t *act* like one. Impaling, torture, gunpowder and gorilla warfare, and being the inspiration for Konrad Curze in 40k, Conrad Von Carstien in Warhammer Fantasy, and of course Bram Stoker’s Dracula is what he was known for. Not being Pinhead from Hellraizer on steroids, Throt the Unclean in Fantasy or Rakarth from 40k.
44:00 Kitten not knowing about the “chimney passage” isn’t farfetched. When we cleaned out the homes of both my parents' parents and later my great aunt’s house and even my childhood home when we moved, I found things that existed that I only then found out about that *I* or even *THEY* Never knew about. Like half of the total basement of my mom's childhood home is just a crawl space, the bed in my dad’s childhood bedroom bed was literally wood bolted into the floor with a mattress on it, or my great Aunt having a hidden space in the unfinished basement between the wall of the “finished basement and unfinished basement” if that makes sense.
31:30 likely the war between the Vampire and Humanity. Remember that for all their power influence and ghouls, Humanity Outnumber Ghouls by a ridiculously high margin. If the Sabot won, them trying to rule Mankind openly would cause the extermination of Vampire kind because of how outnumber they are. So, the Vampires are actively trying to rule from the shadows. But between hunters, the Arcanum, the Tech wizard faction, the Mages, Human nature still affecting their ghouls', thralls, and the like; making them act chaotically or against their own self-interests at times, being stuck in the past and stagnant to progress or modernization, and other factions like the Anarchs, -Kui Jin,- and Sabot, or just rival clan members with their own agendas, the Vamps can only have loose control of the world.

In WoD Mages are people who awoke to the truth that reality is a lie and the universe is shaped and made real by collective belief and perception from humanity.
For example, outer space literally did not exist until a faction trying to stamp out magic and control the world's workings by enforcing science and logic as the one truth of the universe convinced the population of the world that it did.
Think of being a Mage as something along the lines of being a lucid dreamer. Reality is subjective and defined by perception and so with proper awareness of that fact you can reshape it to your will, but if you do something that obviously defies the Consensus of how reality works in front of someone who is still beholden to it then reality will fight back against breaking its rules and hit the Mage with some backlash.

For example, outer space did not exist until the Technocracy convinced enough people that it did for the Consensus of reality to shift and make physics as we know it come into existence in their efforts to stamp out all magic and control the world so it all works according to their design.

Regarding your questions about Revenants and the information in the video, MAKING a Revenant family is a much more difficult process than you'd think. If I recall correctly, the Tzimisce actually started the process a long time ago by having their ghouls breed over multiple generations before Revenants were actually born. I wouldn't be surprised if the process involved more than just that however. Also, Revenants basically ARE already superhuman, having all the abilities of normal Ghouls as well as the ability to slowly learn some measure of Vampiric Disciplines, with different familites having skill in different Disciplines. For example, the Zantosa (formerly Szantovich) have access to the Disciplines of Auspex, Presence and Vicissitude. But, to my knowledge, Revenants don't actually get stronger with each generation.
Also, horrifyingly, a lot of the stuff Big D describes in 'The True Depth of Evil' is quite accurate. Notice how he specifically uses the word 'fiends' at 24:14? That's not a coincidence, it's a common in-universe term for the Tzimisce. The things they do with their Vicissitude is horrifying, like horribly twisting a victim into a living fainting couch that screams whenever you lay down on it, or fashining fine leather from the skin of homeless people. Yet, oddly, they aren't AS bad as they could be. They do horrible things to their victims, certainly, but it'smostly the younger Tzimisce who take sadistic joy in the agony of their victims, the elder ones are just so outside mortal morals that they don't feel a thing and they don't really care about their pain. They would try to extract the perfect pitch and tenor of a scream from a fleshcrafted victim the same way a painter would work to mix the perfect shade of red for a sunset. The agony isn't something they enjoy so much as just checking a box on a list for a 'proper' work of art.
If you want SADISTIC evil, you're more likely to find it with the Volgirre. These guys are an offshoot of Clan Toreador that joined the Sabbatt and learned Vicissitude, and they take it to extremes further than the Tzimisce do. And while the Tzimisce are just interested in pain as part of the artistic process, the Volgirre try to make it as agonizing every step of the way as possible SOLELY for hedonism and sadistic jollies. The worst part? A number of them have gotten in contact with the main Toreador Clan to quietly slip back into the Camarilla.
Still though, there's a Clan that's worse than EITHER of them. The Baali. Clans like the Tremere, the Giovanni and the Setites are vaguely tolerated, if hated, but people can work with them. But the Baali? These guys have the distinction of being the only CLan that ALL other Clans and Sects share a 'kill on sight' order on. They see a Baali, they kill it. NO EXCEPTIONS. And believe me, it's THOROUGHLY deserved. They are probably the number one Clan in VTM that can be considered well, truly, and UTTERLY evil to the core, more than any other. And THAT'S saying something.
56:48 Pyotr was actually 12th Generation to start but Went up after diablerizing Ape (11th Generation) followed by Shitbeard (1th Generation) making Pyoty himself 10th Generation before he died. Being 9th Generation like Kevin, or especially 8th would actually be a BIG deal for a modern and younger Vampire, it's as powerful as someone can probably be outside the Camarilla's inner circle of senior membership. It's VERY rare for anyone under at least 200+ years to be of significantly potent Generation. I can think of only one Vampire who was Embraced as a 5th Generation in the last 400 or so years, Christopher Houghton. The first and still most powerful Vampire in LA.

My theory is that Anton and the brother taken by the Fae are separate, that they always move in a unit. Before Kitten and Boy, they travelled with two more of his Sons. Anton, based on the shadow's size, could be an Angron parallel. And the lost brother could be a Jaghatai or, given the Fae wilds being forests, the Lion parallel.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but one of the running theories as to what Marckus contacted is that it was the WYRM ITSELF. I don't know a lot of werewolf lore, but given that the sphere Marckus seems to be tapping into is entropy (luck manipulation and breaking of objects), this seems to line up fairly well. There's also the theory that Anton may be the Angron stand in, mainly based on the name and his size, if there's any mention of fae bloodsports, that will probably confirm it.

Kitten not knowing about the “chimney passage” isn’t farfetched. When we cleaned out the homes of both my parents' parents and later my great aunt’s house and even my childhood home when we moved, I found things that existed that I only then found out about that I or even *THEY* Never knew about.

I don't think D ever really suspected Blacklaw and his son nor the other way around. He can probably trust them to be safe in regards to working for vampires or other supernatural creatures they just hate each other for fued bullshit. Push comes to shove if theres an obvious threat they'd work together (fight over who is in charge but still do it) so he can easily count on Blacklaw to be one of the ones fighting the ghoul in the situation no matter what, the issue is just getting him to believe the threat is there because he'd never trust anything D says. He didn't fight with D because he thought he was a traitor he just assumed this was some ploy from D to get himself back into the Arcanum if I remember right, now that the threat has made itself known hes defintely on the side of hunting down the ghoul along with his son who probably feels personal responsibility as the head of security failing to stop the old man's death. So its a case where his worst enemy there is 1 of 2 people he could trust to not be corrupted so he has some begrudging respect for them in that regard.

    - The eternal war vampire kind fight among itself is called the Jyhad (dont overthink a relation to the Islamic thing, vampire history is 10k years old, Islam barely... 1400 i think). If we talk about the sabbat ghoul, they would probably just grab the info and maybe trash the place. The info would be usefull to clear the place of drive the local hunters toward know local camarilla inhabitant. The regent on the other hand... she intend to stay here forever, therefore the ghoul remaining in the Arcanum would be more usefull longterm. The Arcanum is quite passif as far as WOD factions is concerned. They tend to accidentaly come into contact with all side while doing their scholar investigation thing (meta wise, the GM can throw those guys at the player as a non-threat encounter with low to medium knowledge about everyone. so many plot hook...). So, keeping a spy inside the Arcanum you have one more pawn that can learn what's new in the area.
    - I remember Kevin mentionning because he was the childe (or was it grandchilde?) of the regent, he had the lowest generation of the sabbat group (the higher you are, the more diluted and further away from Caine you start). Pyotr was older as far as year of unlife as a vampire, but he was also the highest gen of the groupe. I think he started as 12th gen, but did lower it to 10 by diablerising shitbeard (11th) and ape boy (10th). The way the interrogation went, i think Kevin admitted he would have been next in line for pyotr to lowering it further to 9th generation. Diablerie only function to lower gen vampire than yourself. It has no effect on equal or higher generation.

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Not exactly. Vampire blood is actually more nutritious for vampires than regular human blood, and vampires require more and more blood as they get older to avoid falling into Torpor or frenzying from hunger, so many elders pick up a habit of finding ways to... supplement their diets, so to speak. Feeding from Ghouls is a common practice as their blood is more potent than a regular human's, but some imbibe blood bags filled with the blood of other vampires, or they dispense with the pretense entirely and Diablerize other vampires outright. And it actually has more of an effect than just getting more potent blood out of the deal; vampires can literally eat souls if they drain a victim down to the last drop, and contrary to what you might think, vampires still have souls, so Diablerists often grow addicted to the taste of both vampire blood and souls, as well as the sporadic power boosts from doing so. Hell, Diablerie is actually a shortcut to learning Disciplines outside of one's Clan without having to spend years trying to learn the Discipline from scratch, as the power and some of the knowledge of the vampire goes with their soul when they're Diablerized. It's also theoretically possible to amass so much power from Diablerizing other vampires that you effectively lower your generation through sheer volume of vitae and souls consumed, although this would require eating dozens or even hundreds of other vampires of roughly equal power to the Diablerist, which isn't as easy as it sounds considering there usually aren't that many vampires in a given region, and the process would have to be fairly quick, otherwise the Diablerist would burn through the power faster than they could amass it. So it's not really feasible to even test if it would work, let alone actually do so reliably, but the potential is there if a storyteller wants to pursue that idea.

Also, you talk about supposedly having a lot of Chekhov's guns, but I believe that trope is not supposed to be a hard rule but rather a useful guideline, because we also have its exact opposite trope: the red herring, something that seems very plot-relevant but is ultimately revealed to be a narrative distraction from something that is comparatively less obvious but far more plot-important.
