I have another video all about CINEMATIC Color Grading that goes through an awesome way to quickly get awesome looking footage: th-cam.com/video/KTul78zjL64/w-d-xo.html
WOW, Great insight! QUESTION??? I do not have a computer that I feel will do editing. Should I spend the money and buy a MAC and FCPX or save my money and get a BIG Stronger PC and AP?
I have been editing tv for 20 years... and I agree very much with this workflow... Get your structure down and then you have something to change. It’s so easy to get ‘stuck’... if there is an issue.. usually it gets solved as you get a clearer idea of the final product. What can also happen is.. you spend a long time stylising one bit... and you realise you don’t need it for story.. and that’s time wasted. Interesting video. Nick
In the beginning, music was the show stopper for me. I couldn't edit before I found the perfect music for the video. Now I first build the storyline and then add the music which I use from Artlist and Epidemic. Their filters help me a lot in finding 'the right fitting' music within minutes. Great video btw, the tip for the presets is something I have to dive in to now.
Great tips. I do have to step back and learn FCPX from the ground up. I keep learning things by mistake, lol. Definitely getting the loupedeck tho. My workflow with just a mouse and keyboard is too clunky.
Great tips Devon! Good to see you're using FCP too. Just ordered a Loopdeck+ direct from Loopdeck US. Don't know why, but it was $101 to ship to Canada with Amazon. Loopdeck included the price in the shipping - yeah! Subscribed! Cheers and thanks! Frederic in Montréal
Great tips, thanks! I've been using FXPX since its beginning and the feature I like the most is the organization process. it makes it so easy to find your A's, B's, etc. and allow the editor to select the best portion of a clip, mark it with keywords and move on. Evaluating footage completely before beginning the cut makes the whole process go so much faster. And, as you say: "time is money!" Thanks again!
How’s the learning curve coming from keyboard and mouse? I’m pretty comfortable with hot keys, but the idea of just turning a dial instead intensively clicking into color boards to color grade sounds lovely
What Apple laptop do you have, and what are its specs that you use for your editing ... and ... do you feel it is sufficient for your needs for the foreseeable future? Thanks, Chuck
SoI should forget my trackpad and plug in a mouse? I haven’t used a mouse since getting rid of my desktop computer! I already cut a lot of my footage to match the music, using markers. A great method.
Did they improved quality of the product a bit? Mine went back a few months ago... I felt like all the knobs and buttons were about to fell off the board. Serious quality issues but idea it self brilliant!
Good tips Jeven! Checked out the loupedeck. At the price it seems to have gotten quite a few bad reviews. Perhaps a v2 will take care of some of the issues. Pretty snazzy to have a seperate keyboard though.
Hey Jeven how is the quality? There have been some quality issues with this exact model, over on Amazon people were getting ones that were warped and would not lay flat. There is also the complaint that it's really cheap feeling.
Faster it doesn't mean better. Editing needs time. The most important it's to not play around too much. Be creative and exploring, but also understand that everything takes some work and time. Key to workflow.
No it doesn't mean better however if you can speed up your workflow on the boring aspects of editing then you can spend more time on the creative elements.
Had I known, a few years ago, that Adobe and Final Cut would be the most supported for additional integratable apps/software I wouldn't have sunk the money into iSony Vegas Pro and its upgrades .. having said that, are you aware of a similar "deck" that works with Vegas Pro?
The music that I'm going to use is one of the first decisions that I make, it sets the tone for the edit. Jeven, is it worth using beat-marking software? Also, I try to beat mark the actual music in case I move it, but it looks like you beat marked it on a timeline. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
Great information. I might have to rethink how I edit some. Definitely a time-consuming process. I wonder if there is a deck compadable with sony vegas lol. I might also have to look into FCPX. Thanks for the video.
As an editor for many years, I've used Avid, Premiere and Final Cut. By far, Final Cut Pro X is faster and I can pop over to Motion and quickly design my own effects and transitions. But, I've had about a dozen people ask me to teach them and all but one of them stopped wanting to learn after understanding how to make the first edit. From that point on, people stick to what they know and that's track-based editing. They don't go far enough to 'get it' about the Magnetic Timeline. One producer wanted me to know that Premiere was just as fast as Final Cut Pro X. Well, those of us who actually know FCPX knows that this producer just declared that she doesn't know X and is trying to do track-based editing on it.
Thanks for the great tips! You explained things really well and those are all excellent points for speeding things up! That climbing video you’re working on looks interesting. Where can we see the finished product? 👊
I wonder how many current highly produced TH-cam channels produce and edit their own footage. I suspect very few. I see channels with 1.5k subs with amazing editing and production.
You'd be surprised. There are some really big creators who still edit but yes many end up hire out editors as soon as they can so they can shoot more videos
Do you hava any recommendations for video editing in android phone? I want to make a simple cinematic video of my baby.. haven't tried to edit any video before haha.. anyway im using feiyu vlog pocket gimbal w samsung S8.. free app would be better lol Thanks in advance
Ok, that thing is cool. Gotta try that out! I also utilize shortcut keys (keystroke) to edit and it saves so much time. One hand on the mouse and one on the keyboard!
Just because they sponsored the video doesn't mean that its a bad product. I won't take on a sponsorship unless its a product that I am actually interested in. Most of the video is about faster editing and the Loupedeck is just one thing that I use to speed up my workflow.
Noticing your timeline, why don't you use the primary storyline as it was intended? Looks as though you are trying to replicate Premiere or Fcp7 functionality. Fcpx edits way faster once you get used to using the primary storyline/magnetic timeline as intended. Way less clicks. Just a suggestion. You do you.
@@JevenDovey Sorry, it's difficult to explain via comments. Basically I noticed you use a lot of gaps. So for example at about 13:51 you put the song on the secondary storyline and have a gap on the primary storyline. Then you put the marks on the gaps. If you put the song on the primary storyline, you could easily put the marks on the song itself. Then those marks follow that song wherever you drag it. Then at about 14:22 you put the footage on the secondary storyline above the gap clip. You could either keep the song on the primary storyline and it has the same functionality that you have now. Or I recommend lifting the song from the primary storyline into the secondary story line. Then put all the video clips in the primary story line. So long as the song is connected to your first clip and you're pretty confident your first clip is going to stay there, then you can really take advantage of the primary storyline's magnetic timeline features. Where you can just drag clips and they all realign themselves. I get that you might want a specific clip at a specific spot for the music, then in that case you can add a gap clip in a variety of ways. If you use the position tool (P) you can just drag it to the marker you want. Maybe I can make a video showing you what I mean. But you do you. Haha! I just know that I used to do it your style, then I totally dove deep into how the Apple engineers intended and used everything in default mode and found it was a lot faster once I got used to it. Again, you do you. Take care.
WOW! That’s really entertaining/ interesting. I really like those new videos on your channel. You inspire me to also make exiting videos on MY CHANNEL!
I would have liked to see how you USE the LOUPEDECK while your editing, more examples, like In / Out points/ fav / putting on the timeline etc..... Nice Vid otherwise . . .
I'm sorry but the Loupdeck products are complete sh*t. The + is a plastic piece of garbage that takes ages to configure and even at that is really limited with FCP considering the amount of knobs. I've used it in Resolve and Premiere with an equal amount of let down. And I can't for my life understand why they (and others) use the term "jog" to describe their rotating wheels. A Jog controller is tactile with resistance and has tactile modes for frame-by-frame or fast forward/backwards with a snap for instant stop. It's not just a freely rotating plastic knob. Sorry but no. You'll regret the purchase. As I did. (I've edited several feature films in FCP and work as a post production senior and I love innovative gear and physical controllers)

Amazing help and examples. Thank you. Especially the bits about getting the rough edit down first to create that outline.
Awesome product! I would love to have one and test it out! Great video 👍
Once you get use to it the Loupedeck becomes really cool to work with
In the beginning, music was the show stopper for me. I couldn't edit before I found the perfect music for the video. Fantastic advice on workflow!😀 Thanks much! Are you still using the same LoopDeck today or something else?
Great tips. I do have to step back and learn FCPX from the ground up. I keep learning things by mistake, lol. Definitely getting the loupedeck tho. My workflow with just a mouse and keyboard is too clunky.

Thank you for the tip of it not being tinkering with because that is born of my bad habits and I will surely take that into consideration and try it

Whoa!! That loupedeck is so cool! I'm new to all of this so that is probably something common but it's new to me.
New to me too and I've had my channel for a long time. Though I just got back into editing.
How’s the learning curve coming from keyboard and mouse? I’m pretty comfortable with hot keys, but the idea of just turning a dial instead intensively clicking into color boards to color grade sounds lovely

Hey Jeven, have you had a chance to play around with the Loupedeck ct yet?
The last 2 tips are exactly what I needed to hear. Thank Jeven!
this was well explained & awesome
Can you suggest a video course to learn Final Cut Pro X, and where it can be found?
SoI should forget my trackpad and plug in a mouse? I haven’t used a mouse since getting rid of my desktop computer! I already cut a lot of my footage to match the music, using markers. A great method.
Up to you. I still use a mouse but if the trackpad works better for you then use that.
I've been considering one of these but I don't know FCPX inside and out. Is there a particular course you recommend? Or the one you used?
check out ripple training. Thats what I used to learn the software: www.rippletraining.com/
@@JevenDovey why did you switch from Adobe? Which is easier and which is more powerful? Thanks!
very helpful insights...thanks!
Did they improved quality of the product a bit? Mine went back a few months ago... I felt like all the knobs and buttons were about to fell off the board. Serious quality issues but idea it self brilliant!
What tutorial did you use to learn final cut..?
wondering this too....
awesome equipment for fast editing. thank you for sharing Sir.
Nice you make me interesting in editting
Me too
What do you recomend for video edit - loupedeck + or CT?
Good tips Jeven! Checked out the loupedeck. At the price it seems to have gotten quite a few bad reviews. Perhaps a v2 will take care of some of the issues. Pretty snazzy to have a seperate keyboard though.
hey Jeven,, thank you for this informative video 👍🏽.. can you share the learning series that you took up for final cut pro?
I used ripple training. Working on my own series that goes through my method

why did you shift from Premier to FCP?
Can u map loupedeck to fcpx 3rd party plugin such as MotionVFX mfilmlook?

Awesome Tutorial, I wish FCPX would let you copy all markers and pasted them into another timeline, audio clip or whatever...
Jeven - it’s been 2 years, so I’m curious if are you still using this in your workflow??
Thanks a lot. This tip: “Edit First Cut ASAP,” speeds the edit a ton
As a FCPX user. Some Motion tutorials would be 🔥
I need to learn Motion!

Don’t bother, you’ll regret buying this for FCPX or Mac
Where to find back ground music (BGM) FREE ??
Plz do make a video on feiyu VlogPocket smartphone gimbal …🤘
