      The automated Multicam workflow on Final Cut is a godsend!! Could you maybe do one where you have multiple clips? For instance, on a longer shoot, the average camera shoots for just under 30 mins continuously. Is there an easy way to set up Multicam clips for maybe 2-3 such clips (an overall runtime of like 1.5 hours or so)? Just as an example.Right now I normally try and cut/restart all at around the same time so as to make multiple Multicam clips, but is there an easier way? Thanks!

    this is one of the best and most simple tutorials I've seen in terms of multicam editing. Most of the videos I see are extremely long winded and give out too much information at once. This was a great but informative watch. I salute you sir. You've not only helped me speed up my work flow but thousands of others. Thank you.

    Jeven thanks so much! This is exactly the setup I have (2-3 cams and separate audio), and the workflow I have been missing. Your explanation is really well organized, clear, and concise. And the quality of your lighting, exposure, grading, audio, not to mention editing of course - really excellent. One of the best video tutorials on TH-cam - nice work!

    • @gold333

      How do you want to keep 4 cams running when they are dynamically operated by camerapeople? This is what I need to know for filming dance videos. The lack of a vertical dimension to the timeline is killing me. As is the inability to edit to audio that is externally sourced

    • @ericpersson8753
      @ericpersson8753 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gold333 For a recent wedding, I used 3 cameras plus separate audio recorders, all synchronized with timecode: For the cameras, I record onto Atomos Ninja V, all synchronized with Atomos Sync modules. One camera is the master, and the others are slave, and they wirelessly sync. I use the Ultrasync for the recorder(s), and it is also linked to the master Atomos. I was able to import the 3 camera footage, plus audio from a mix-pre-10 and 3 Tentacle Track-E bodypacks and it all aligned perfectly. One thing that makes it easier is - just leave all the recorders running for the whole event, assuming you have sufficient storage on your Atomos (I put 2 TB drives on each). Then import everything and align with timecode. Then it is easy to go in and cut/delete what you don't need, and start editing the clips you do need.

    • @gold333
      @gold333 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericpersson8753 This makes no sense. How do you want me to keep 4 camera people and a flying drone continuously shooting RAW 14 bit video for 5 hours? A dance video is tens of performances of the same 3 minute dance routine for hours. Filmed by a static wide angle cam, a dynamic close up 50mm, a face zoom from 85mm+ and a drone doing aerial shots. All cameras record the exact same body beats (body movements, choreography).
      In Premiere I could sync up all clips vertically so that the entire 3 minute edit was in sync across all cameras (clips). I.e. timestamp: 0:27:37 all dancers hip thrust. That hip thrust was in sync across all clips (all cameras) because they were stacked vertically in the timeline.
      If I said I want the static wide angle cam to hold a half second longer on the hip thrust I simply drag out and extend that clip and drag back the clip following it. -Things didn't suddenly go bouncing around the timeline destroying my overall choreography sync-. if I changed the length of a single clip.
      I can't do this in FCPX and I think its hell, because it renders faster than Premiere

    • @ericpersson8753
      @ericpersson8753 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gold333 It seems that what worked for me is probably not a good fit for your situation - I didn't realize how much footage you are talking about. Regardless, I think timecode could be beneficial for your timeline coordination. Good luck and post a link when you get a finished product we can see.

    Excellent! I actually feel more comfortable trying this out. My project is to edit my wedding videos (from 35 years ago!). The ceremony itself was shot on three cameras all running uninterrupted, so syncing that part should be easy, thank you FCP. But all three cameras were also used independently for before and after the ceremony and at the reception, so I need to get smarter on how to slice that up and only apply multicam to the synced clips.
