My father used to work at J.B. Maris Co. in Bloomfield, NJ prior to WWII. I saw one of their pumps on your shelf. Mine still works. I have two valves too. At 20:00 you show the aerator connector. I had a filter that used that same connector. It had a HOB filter but the water exited on the bottom and the aerator connector would pump the water back up through the tubing into the tank on the other side from the HOB.
What's really sad about this is I remember a lot of this stuff ....the metal frame tanks, decorations, the different fish foods, at the local 5&10 stores while I was growing up! I believe we had one of those metal frame tanks too! Wow! Great collection! Thanks for showing us this! Wow!

The MV + and MV- setting on that old PH meter was for conductivity. An early version of a TDS meter. Back in the old days you would see advice like " this fish prefers a PH of 7.4 with a conductivity of ..."

My first Aquarium was a 30 gal from Sears in 1967. Water was collected from glacier melt and the chemistry of the tank all had to be added. The aquarium was my 'color tv'.

Wow! This totally took me back, as a 10 year old kid in early 70's New Jersey we would often go to garage sales and I would buy (or get my folks to buy) old aquarium goods which I would set up and use in my bedroom, I had several ornate framed tanks similar to those in the video, old (mostly german made) pumps and really tacky ornaments. For my folks it was a way to get really economical supplies for what they thought would be a short-lived hobby (hah!) but it sure did have a style that I had forgotten until now. What happened to all of it? When my Army family got orders to Germany we sold it all at a garage sale.
At 9:48 I have that vintage tank set up that actually came with the electric aerator. I believe it's mid century. I also have an older just tank with a slate bottom. Two of my very favorite objects I own! In the hooded one I housed a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach named George Harrison for a while.
For me this was a trip through memory lane. I recognized 90% of that stuff. How wonderful that you have collected it- the art deco and victorian era equipment is so gorgeous! My first 'big' tank (early '70's) was an aluminum framed 20G with a slate bottom and a curved/arch aluminum light hood that held 2 incandescent bulbs.You have one there!
this either makes me very glad, or very sad, that I clean house in the fishroom every so often and toss or sell the old stuff I no longer use! But I'm definitely a fan of his approach to using pre owned equipment and building a fish room on the cheap!
I used to have that one of them vintage Supreme Aqua Master power filters I had the black model of course. when I was growing up really miss that power filter. my dad found it at a old bait store back in the 90s.
My parents started keeping fish in the 60's. I have seen a lot of what you have, but I had no idea anyone collected it. You also had some very interesting info on the Gillman. He was probably black originally because it worked better on B&W TV. You have an amazing collection man!

My mom bought me a couple steel framed slate bottomed tanks that were part of their fish display, $2 each. They were probably about 15 gallons, sort of square and low. I ended up selling them for $4 each, which I thought was great business acumen on my part.
Something I wondered, maybe you know... All those tanks had a piece of metal sticking out from the side of the inside bottom, a little tab of stainless steel about a fourth of an inch by an inch long, and I couldn't figure out why. It's not on any other steel framed tanks, just the ones used commercially. What gives?
I remember Longlife fish food. It's what they sold you to feed your goldfish that you kept in a bowl. Someone made some kind of a goldfish food that look like sheets of Styrofoam. It was probably made of rice cakes. This was in the early 1960s.

Patches can be made with computer assisted embroidery machines - great idea! As for aquarium cards - I'll trade you a rare early beardless Lucas for that ultra rare Steenfott without a hat. Lol. Aquarium cards could have people, fish, or "junk".
