    Inspiring film and great name guys. We climbed Toubkal in early Feb to see the sunrise. Would be great to hear your thoughts on the video we created th-cam.com/video/_EeSVSLpAWg/w-d-xo.html

    We attempted to get to the top in March of 2019 with a guide which had just become mandatory. Going up, we made steady progress from Imlil in good weather up to the refuge. However that night a storm front hit and after waiting till about 9am the next morning we decided to go up, in blizzard conditions. We passed other hikers going down that had left during the dark and not got up. It was very heavy going, the energy consumed to trudge through the snow, 2 feet thick in places was immense. At about 3900 metres a gust of wind knocked us over, and we agreed to turn back. Our guide told us later that nobody had come as far as us that day. We were so unlucky, as the next morning the sky was blue, and conditions were calmer for an ascent. We couldn’t go though, we had a room booked in Marrakesh and flights the next day. We did get some beautiful photos on the hike back down, and the views of mountains covered in snow was amazing.

    Hello. Which is the date for the images? Because I am planning to climb Jebel Toubkal in the first week of march and I was wondering what to expect up there.

    Hi, It is possible take the Toubkal up and down in one day?

    • @gorillamountaineering8751
      @gorillamountaineering8751  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes - during spring or summer when there isn't too much snow about you could go from imlil to the summit and back to imlil in one very long day if you are very fit.

    What kind of "fitness level" is necessary to climb the Toubkal?

    • @gorillamountaineering8751
      @gorillamountaineering8751  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to be massively fit - you're basically talking 2 x 6-8 hr days on steep, but non-technical terrain. The altitude makes things tougher, as does deep snow.

      It's harder in winter...but you only need to be 'reasonable fit' for the climb, if you exercise regularly, you'll be fine!

    what was the exact month that you climbed Toubkal on this video?

      I filmed this footage in February...

      thanks for your reply... was there any risk of avalanches?

    • @gorillamountaineering8751
      @gorillamountaineering8751  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - but not usually as bad as other regions, such as the alps. Avalanche risk varies from day-to-day, depending on wind direction, precipitation, temperature fluctuation etc etc

      thanks for the info.. i thought it was a matter of the height of snow only

    is it necessary to have a guide or you can reach to top by your own self ??

    • @gorillamountaineering8751
      @gorillamountaineering8751  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you have experience of basic winter mountaineering, reasonable navigation skills and fitness to carry all of your own gear (guided outfits supply mules to carry gear), you'll be fine without a guide - it's all down to your experience.

      no am talking 'bout the way to get to the summit is it complicated or there is a clear way to follow to get to the top ??

    • @gorillamountaineering8751
      @gorillamountaineering8751  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's not complicated...and you can get advice at the refuge. In summer, the path from the refuge to the summit it easy to see..in winter, there's usually a path of footsteps in the snow...
