    Congratulations 🎉 very useful video. I'm doing it in May, it will be my first high mountain. I'm a bit scared but I hope all will be well.

    This is excellent! Great video. Alex seems to have had the same reaction to the mountain as my pal!

    Loved this video! I’m taking on Toubkal in September
    Which company did you book your hike through?

    • @summitwithsophie
      @summitwithsophie  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Charlie! Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video and hope you have a great time 😁 I booked through Much Better Adventures, but they typically have agreements with local organisations and the trip was actually run by Aztat Treks who are based in Morocco! Everything was great, would highly recommend both companies 😊

    What time of year did you go as I’m thinking of Mt Toubkal too and would like a little snow ❄️)

      Thank you Simon! We went at the end of January. From what the guide told us, there has been less snow the last couple of years but you might be luckier if you go as late in the winter season as you can (February / March even). You'll have an amazing time! 😊

    random question but what travel insurance did you use?

    • @summitwithsophie
      @summitwithsophie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a good question and I spent a lot of time researching 😂 To be covered for this trip you need additional sports / activity cover as standard travel insurance won't cover you to hike at such high altitude. I googled a bunch of different sports and activity travel insurance options and ended up going with Big Cat Travel Insurance because they had an option for couples which ended up being one of the cheapest. We had an activity pack add-on which covered hiking up to 4600m

    Great video Sophie ... and well done to both of you. I am also going there next week. The fact that there is no snow has already dampened my spirits 😞. I was so looking forward to it. How cold was it?Is it worth investing in a thick insulation jacket? Can you rent it locally from Marrakech?

    • @summitwithsophie
      @summitwithsophie  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Vikram! Thanks for watching. It's a real shame there is no snow, but I hope you will still enjoy the amazing views 😊 I didn't find a thick insulation jacket necessary for the hiking on the days we were there - I wore a base layer, a fleece and a thin down jacket for most of the way up, so having a few layers was enough and I could've added another thin layer or two if necessary. However, I did appreciate having a thick outer coat for nights at the refuge, as it gets very cold at night and it allowed me to go outside to stargaze / hunt for 4G! There are some equipment rental shops for Atlas Mountains excursions, but I think you would have to contact them directly to find out if they have a suitable jacket for you.

    Very cool hike!! Can you share please your recommendations of where to stay in Imlil and which trekking companies you used??

    • @summitwithsophie
      @summitwithsophie  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure! We booked through Much Better Adventures but they used a local trekking company called Aztat Treks who were amazing, and they also do a bunch of different tours if you want to hike elsewhere in the Atlas Mountains beyond just Toubkal. As for Imlil, I don't have a personal recommendation because we didn't stay there - we spent the first night in Marrakech, drove to Imlil (~1.5 hour drive) and then set off hiking straight away. I think you can find things on Airbnb or Booking.com, the usual places. In Marrakech you need to make sure you book a riad though, the typical Moroccan style accommodation - there's tons of affordable ones 😊

    I did the same hike with four friends in August 2023 and on the morning we summited I felt like Alex looked 🤢but also pushed through and made it to the top. I agree the Mouflon Refuge was basic but it was bearable for just two nights. Congratulations on getting up there and I look forward to following your next challenge.

    Did you get mobile reception?

    • @summitwithsophie
      @summitwithsophie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Actually no the mobile reception was very bad in the mountains. You could just about get some occasionally, but for example in the refuge we had to walk outside in the dark in the evening to find reception because there was none anywhere inside
