  • On today's installment of the world's only extreme metal podcast, we come with three triumphant returns by three favorites of the show- this is one for the record books, folks, with one of the strongest lineups of records in a single episode we've ever featured. First up: the shocking return of Mutiilation, whose 17 year absence seemingly never occurred as Meyna'ch presents six tracks of caustic and necro French black metal in a style nearly forgotten.* Next up: another massive comeback by Brodequin, whose custom brand of blast-oriented brutal death is expanded upon with clearer production and a more pronounced sense of melody. Rounding things out: Coffins returns with more Coffins. No further explanation is required.
    0:00:00 - Intro
0:01:54 - Mutiilation - Black Metal Cult (Osmose Productions)
1:04:31 - Interlude - Hell Militia - “Born Without Light” fr. Last Station on the Road to Death (Debemur Morti Productions, 2010)
1:10:22 - Brodequin - Harbinger of Woe (Season of Mist Underground Activists)
1:56:25 - Interlude - Cinerary - “Undying” fr. Rituals of Desecration (Deepsend Records, 2001)
1:59:48 - Coffins - Sinister Oath (Relapse Records)
2:48:28 - Outro - Grudge - “Altar of Asphalt,” fr. D.D.D.H. - Doomed to Death, Damned in Hell split w/ Coffins and Anatomia (Grindmind Records, 2007)
*CORRECTION: When discussing Mutiilation's weird choice of cover art, TBMG misattributes the Baphomet statue to the Church of Satan (Anton LaVey). He meant to say "The Satanic Temple," a social justice NGO that's only been around for about a decade.

Yet another episode where I get like ten or twenty minutes into it and I HAVE to stop to listen to some of the material.
I'm not always the biggest BM kind of guy, but Mutiilation took my breath away. Loved this record so far and I also checked out Remains, and god damn that was a harrowing listen. My partner and I would often get to riffs or sections where we'd just look at each other in awe.
    Really tight episode Boys ✌️

Well shit, glad we could introduce you to the mouldering paradise of Mutiilation. "Harrowing" is right - it's demanding music. Also, it's nice to know we've managed to attract some listeners who really are more into death metal. Raw BM is usually a tough sell for death metal guys, but I can see how Mutiilation would do it for you - more jagged and abrasive, w/ that residual thrash influence and ceaseless morbidity. Oh, and thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed. - TBMG ⚔

I got excited when he announced that Mütiilation is not dead and "its seventh son" is coming but I was not expecting it to get released one week after. Then I kind of lowered my expectations when I saw the album title. I was expecting a fan service album made of half-baked ideas but oh boy, when I finished listening to the album for the first time, I was like "This is so good". I am familiar with the majority of Mütiilation discography and I like the first three albums more than last three, especially "Remains...". (TBMG listen to it!), I also play Antaeus' Condemnation each time I listen to "Black Metal Cult" it feels like a complete ritual. Lastly, the fourth track "Into the Cursed Necropolis" is probably my favorite from this album.

"Into The Cursed Necropolis" is a highlight for sure, what a haunting melody. Also, glad you're keepin it real w/ the Antaeus! From that era, Aosoth remains in regular rotation for me. - TBMG ⚔

Excellent episode. I wonder if Meynach has any knowledge of Nick Land. They’d certainly agree on a whole hell of a lot.

Haha yeah they would, but I don't think Meynach really NEEDS Nick Land, if that makes sense. He's already there!
Glad you liked this one, man. Hope you're well. - TBMG

As someone who often tries but rarely gets the hype for brutal death metal, Brodequin made me feel the most enthusiasm I’ve felt for that style in ages. The drumming is some of the best I’ve heard in a hot minute.
And of course, Mutiilation kills. One of my all time favourite bands, and likely my favourite Mutiilation release since Black Millennium, goofy name aside

Glad you could dig th Brodequin! As tdmg said, it's definitely a good portal to the style for regular DM fans. There are other old bands kind of in that niche like Wormed, Origin, and Hate Eternal. - TBMG

@@spacewanderess We'll never know if we love it or not, b/c we'll never listen to it. Our basic position on Darkthrone is that Fenriz is running from his past, afraid to do serious work on a new Darkthrone record (or anything else) b/c people will judge it against the old stuff. Maybe we should do a livestream on nu-Throne, this is the kind of thing we always complain about to each other in between segments or after the show. - TBMG

@@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast please do! I’d love to hear your takes. My position is generally the same, but Bestial Tormentor’s guitar work in Coffin Storm scratched a classic doom itch I’ve been at for a bit, even if I wanted to hate it lol

    Can you do Akitsa?

    • @TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast
      @TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Good question. Akitsa is right up our alley, yet we've NEVER been able to fully get into it - which is a bummer in a way, b/c they're a cool band. Given the new record came out last year, it's probably too far back for us to cover - the show is structured around keeping up w/ new(ish) releases. However, I'll keep it in mind, in case there's a slow week this summer. - TBMG

@@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast Thanks for the reply. Just found this channel and I appreciate the in-depth analysis. But yeah, I've loved Akitsa for years and they have some seriously good tracks. Love the punky/Oi blend.

@@Iron_Wyvern Cheers man, glad you're enjoying the show! As far as Quebecois punk/oi BM fr. the 00s, I loved Malveillance and that one Stella Polaris demo.
