For those that don't know what an UNO MAS level is, essentially it's a short level made to showcase something neat, unique, silly or glitchy in Mario Maker 2. Typically, once figured out, these levels will take under 30 seconds to beat...but those 30 seconds are usually filled with eye opening moments. Let's dive into these levels!

And then Blue is slowest, then green, kumquat, and red is fastest.
For the "I Frames = Death", I just realized how it works. When Mario has the I frames, the muncher squishes him and kills him. But when there are NO I Frames, then Mario takes damage from the muncher and doesn't get squished.
I figured that out almost immediately

I have a theory as to why it works like that.
I-frames or not, Mario dies when crushed.
The muncher must be placed so that it hits Mario right when he exits the door, but do not crush him in the first frame(s). Since Mario has his I-frames, he doesn't shrink (keep in mind he shrinks from top to bottom), so the Muncher crushes him.
Without I-Frames, Mario shrinks when hit by the Muncher, and since there's no upper part of the body that touches the Muncher anymore, it doesn't crush him and thus, allowing you to finish the level.
That's my take anyways.

You're correct, I'm honestly not sure why DGR was so confused with that after all his hours playing. Most likely he was just overthinking it... or thought he was dying to 'damage' and not 'crush'.
The answer is even simpler. The crush check is an anti-softlock safety feature and is only necessary to check when Mario has i-frames. In other circumstances he would just take damage normally either killing him normally or triggering the crush check if necessary.

That one with the bumpers looks like a collision limit. If Mario hits it enough, it seems to stop detecting hits, despite playing the collision sfx.

Quick clarification on the duck to survive level. Ducking reduces Mario’s hit box so that the buzz saw doesn’t kill him if he ducks.
Exactly what I was coming down here to say. As opposed to what the level description claims, I'm quite sure that ducking does *not* make donut blocks fall faster. As you said, it merely makes your hit box shorter so that the saw doesn't hit you when the i-frames run out. In other words, for that level you could not duck at all while waiting for the first two blocks to fall, then just duck as the third one starts falling, and you'll have the same success and survive.
I can’t believe he didn’t notice this it was so obvious. Oh wait, he’s exactly the kind of person to not notice.
It does make them fall faster, but only on some styles.

I like the timing mechanism they used in Blue Pipes on Steroids: putting a bomb on a track that gets lit by a podoboo (one of the sentient lava bubbles) after a long wait
It doesn’t make them fall faster it makes your hitbox smaller!

The hypersplash level is the most fantastic thing I’ve ever seen.

The canon being raised... technically, it's tthe pow block being raised, and with a canon above it, it's just pushing it out of the way to make room for the pow block.
The cape spin making the the muncher clown-car boop higher? I don't think you heard it or saw it, but it sounds like the cape is somehow hitting higher than your spin, knocking the clown car higher since the cape hits things harder I guess.
The invincibility frames one is actually kind of easy to explain. If you notice, the muncher is being pushed towards the player on the conveyer belt. The fire flower you get is also key, as when you take damage, you only revert to Big Mario. Now, if you go in the door while invincible, you can't take damage to become small, so Mario's head is tall enough to get squished by the muncher. However, by going in while either small or not in I-frames, you take damage first before being crushed, meaning Mario's hitbox lowers to be underneath the muncher and saving him from the crushing death.

Okay hear me out, 18:48 that sound is literally the exact same sound that happened in the original super smash bros on the n64 when you press down B on top of 4 green shells stacked on each other when you were really close to the enemy in practice mode. shot in the dark but i had to say it for my homies who know what im talking about

I think the I frames one is because if you cannot take damage, you get squished by the muncher, while if you are vulnerable, you shrink and get out of the way of the muncher before the squish would happen.
1:27 Holding down doesn't make them fall faster, it's just that Mario's hit box doesn't touch the saw's hitbox while crouching, but still a nice concept can't lie

For the one with the Muncher in the clown car, I believe that mario is jumping into it and hitting it with the cape at the same time, hence the cape given to you.

The one where i-frames cause Mario to die is from the fact that you can’t have 2 i-frame conditions at the same time, so my guess is the muncher is able to crush him?
Even with i-frames Mario can't go through munchers. So when he spawn through the door the munchers crushes him upon contact. When he doesn't have the i-frames Mario first shrinks from contact with the muncher this putting him lower than the crush box.
It's because without i-frames Mario can take damage so he shrinks but with i-frames he can't take damage and shrink so he remains 2 blocks tall in the way of the muncher and dies from getting crushed against the wall as being crushed can still kill you with i-frames but when he shrinks he's not in the way of the muncher and doesn't get crushed

I think the one with the saw isn't the fact the donuts fall faster, you are just ducking below the saw's hit box before your s wear off. mario's hitbox is shorter and the frames allow him to be just out of reach.

12:55 I think that with the Invincibility frames, you cannot take damage, so the muncher crushes mario against the wall and thus kill him, but without the frame, you take damage before getting crushed and so you become small and don't die

I'm not surprised there are so many Uno Mas levels. Software bugs happen pretty easily. Add to that this situation in which you have a lot of components with a lot of modifications that can be configured in a lot of different positions, and the problem gets compounded several times over. It would be practically impossible to test all of this. Poor Mario Maker QA engineers. :(
They don't need sympathy. Not how long they've been doing it. All of this is still jank. But it has the upside of giving us things to laugh at because of it!

For the I frames level this is because when Mario or what ever character is invisible the muncher will push them and squish them because the muncher can not damage you but if you do not have I frames you will then just take damage.

10:56 As for why the Z jump hits the Koopa Clown Car higher than a regular jump, our theory is that it is registering the cape spin as an attack on it which has more force than if you just hit it by jumping.
Not just that, but if you duck, then press z as the clown car gets right above you... then the Z hitbox comes out higher than the clowncar's propeller, forcing the clown car to get flown up higher than just with a Z Jump. That was the intended Uno Mas, but you can definitely beat the level without ducking. Ducking Z jump makes it more consistent/guaranteed.
