Daniel drives a two-wheel drive 1994 Toyota Pickup with the 22RE. He tells us he enjoys using it to spend evenings by the ocean, and to drive up into the mountains to forage for stuff to cook. He says outdoor cooking became an obsession after getting the GFC.
Daniel’s a self-described “optometrics nerd” who used to work for Apple, and Disney Imagineering. You may recognize him from his work on the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show, the one with Justin Timberlake.
“It might seem strange to daily drive a camper in Los Angeles,” he continues. “But the GFC is a cheat code for the city. It makes an instant, private, comfortable space with a vaulted ceiling.
I can pull off the PCH and have a house in Malibu. I can go visit a friend and make popcorn on the tailgate. I can tear through the canyons and make any pulloff a party spot. With food, water, and solar always at the ready, I know I'll be safe and having fun no matter what comes-even emergencies.”
“I started taking it on lots of one night getaways where I cook rough gourmet-sous vide steaks seared on a campfire with a crude chimichurri, eggs and roasted tomato on sourdough toast, sprinkled with goat cheese-and then I started foraging for sage, herbs, the flavor of southern California,” Daniel explains. “I have had some of the best meals of my life out under that triangulated spaceframe.”
He first saw a GFC when we (illegally) took over a parking lot in Santa Monica during the LA Auto Show last year. “I was pretty excited to climb up in the tent for the first time,” he says. “I think I was in the orange tree fort for all of three seconds before my mind was made up-I had to have one.”
“My work means that I spend most of my life toiling away in very dark rooms on secret things,” says Daniel. “So for fun, I like to get outside.”
Daniel says the best thing about the GFC is, “The incredible sleep I get in the camper-totally unlike my normal sleep.”

So just today I received a community email saying this “There’s now so little demand for gas guzzling trucks that it just no longer makes sense for us to make campers for them.” Boy are you guys going to eat those words. Good luck with that logic.

GFC is from my hometown, be very careful dealing with this company......great video just a warning....very pompous folks there who will jerk you around, and rarely deliver anything on time. Just my take, and warning from countless experience with them....
My camper was delivered on time and the support has been great. Sorry to hear about your experiences. Do you own a GFC?
@@ViceChief no, I pulled my deposit back after them being 2 months late and ended up buying a HiAce and redoing it. Sadly living in the same town as them, this is a VERY common thing, it has happened to countless people I know. Perhaps they just take care of out of towners IDK??? But the rep locally is .........I will stop there mate, not here to trash just to put a bit of a, be careful with them.....But lol, this is the main GFC channel, I did not realize that I was..... I thought this was your channel...dooohhhhh//// ROFL. ... Anyway good luck with those clowns.
