Looking forward to the next action-packed, thrilling instalment. Probably an illusion, but something very odd looking at 5:26, looks to be a runaway pad or crooked IC with a hole and resistor heading for the 9th dimension.
Searching around on the internet about this chip led me to a forum where someone replaced a similar chip on an MSI GE76 Raider 11UH. As long as the chip was blank, the bios will program the new chip. Hopefully this is the same for this MSI laptop.
I wouldn't judge your buying decision off of one single failed case when there are likely hundreds of thousands of MSI laptops out in the world that are working perfectly fine. It's like if I said that "oh, this bus burned down, so I'm not gonna ride buses anymore" (a bus actually caught fire in a city near me). We can't make things that are perfect unfortunately, so there will always be broken things, that's how it is unfortunately...
Great thought. I've dealt with MSI laptops for many years and agree. Desktop MSI boards? No problem and have built many pc's using them with zero issues. But when it comes to Laptops, I always buy Razer. They're so damn solid.
Many of the newer style chips need to be programmed. I’ve had a few that we’re for Lenovo laptops in that same package that needed to be programmed before installed. Some of the older style IO chip program themselves so your looking at a 50/50 chance. The real problem is having the correct hardware to program those new style chips. A real reliable programmer cost $900-1500 based on which IO chip packages you want to program.
The older chips required preprogramming. The firmware is part of the BIOS firmware. There are several videos on how to program the older style the chips. The newer chips (BGA chips) do not require to be preprogrammed. Rather, they must be completely blank and the BIOS will program the chip upon startup.
Match revision # on board before selecting Donor. BIOS is Flashable but carry a secondary emergency backup copy. If these two are not incrementally matched this system will not POST.
It's goddamned risky for customer. He may end up paying an expensive part and also the repair attempt for nothing. But that's what life's about: making decisions.
There is yet another issue. Most like the chip will be a fake or defective. And after installing you will think that there is some other issue with the board, but in fact it is the chip. Many of those SuperIO chips from China are defective or fake (empty shell).
the chip price is very expensive but maybe because of its functionality.. I think that big motherboard coming from a very expensive MSI laptop. so, it's worth to buy that chip
HEY, is 200€ pricetag gaming monitor worth repair, or just return ? We have local policies and i should still be able to get my money back. Loose light, and dead pixels. I am in the need of monitor, i do buddy system, kinda, always have the next on the side. If my main monitor goes boom i can just swap wires, couse it can take weeks to get another one if i dont have budget available.
I shortcircuited a GS76 mb by dropping a screw while swapping ssd. Is it possible to install a mb from GS66, the 15' model? I like having 17' (yes i was dumb and did not disconnect first)
if there is a bios chip nearby, you might not need to reprogram it. usually this kind of chip have an option to use external bios chip. if not, good luck to find clean region for that board.😅
When i plug my laptop the dc adaptor stop literally to work until unplug and plug back i test with another laptop what is this prob can i fix it look like security inside ac adaptor i never see this prob before its not the adaptor cause it's did same thing with 3 different adaptor
it is the correct move to ask customer. Considering that NF charges a flat fee for non-repairs, it is going to be $70 out of their own pocket if replacement doesn't fix it. It is very easy for us to be critical when it isn't our business to run.
there are two types of these chips, the KB9548GF and the KB9548GF2, the one on this MSI laptop ends in GF2. it is unclear if the chips are the same or not, anyway both are super expensive, , over 50USD per chip.
I have many dead MSI laptops. I just sold them for parts to another computer repair shop. Models GF75 thin, GS63 stealth, GF75. Not sure what happened.
Check Part 2 at th-cam.com/video/MvDnIOApGmo/w-d-xo.html
It will be interesting to see how that board turns out. Will there be a part II? Stay tuned.
After doing a thesis on the blown superio chip, I've come to the conclusion that electricity caused it to blow.
You passed with honors, sir!
Here! Take my cookie!
But what broke the electricity? You haven't done your analysis to the root cause yet
🤯🤣🤣
I thought your thesis was on super Mario.

Lots of deals on MSI laptops now. I am passing on them thanks to the knowledge gained here.

*You always hold them up like a victory trophy because eventually it will be one. Cheers!*
Good and safe attitude, to let the customer order that chip
I'm waiting forward for the second part!👏🏻
Why pass the risk to the customer for sourcing the chip? I would expect a repair shop to know reliable vendors.
the super IO chip, likely did not have regular dental check ups or a good brushing routine and developed a cavity
Worth the fix. Also that chip should be drop in ready.

@@shiftctrlhack how to do you program the chip. I see BIOS on manufacturer site but people always asking for BIOS dump.
@@uzair851it's not bios, it's EC Firmware, I've seen MSI provide EC Firmware in their website
I think the ebay one is programmed chips that why the price is a little bit higher than Ali express one.

What does incrementally matched mean?

It's a good call by Alex though. He knows it's a risky repair.
Yay another NorthridgeFix video 😊
Oh, no! A cliffhanger! Tune in next week to see what happens to our hero.

Yanında çırak olmak isterdim. Öğrenmek güzel kardeşim.
Try to fix it. More knowledge is good for the future, in my opinion. I love your videos. 🤩
Keep us updated on the result, it's quite interesting if that chip can be swapped easily or not
Why don’t we desolder the super I/O and test for the behavior of the suspicious cap
and this is why the whole concept of expensive gaming laptops is a terrible idea, and will probably get progressively worse

You got a motherboard replacement tutorial? The Nvidia GPU on my board went out and the GS76 says it can't find the GPU
According to some forum entries , this chip programs itself. So no need to program.
Which forums? I would like to read good posts on these topics.

Is the hole in the chip for ventilation? :)
He could have filled the hole and it's a fix
@@drelectronics13 duct tape would work
All the other components on the board knew that chip was an A hole. 😮
No, not for ventilation. It is for fixing the garden hose to it. The flow of water will keep it cool and prevent further overheating.

Did he ever got razor laptops, im buying razor blade 16 but was wandering about life expectancy?
All i see in his recent vids Asus and msi
Finally Plastic Spudgers get the glory they deserve.
I don't think it's wise to ask the customer to buy the chip, what he knows about this stuff. it's part of your job

Car shops also send you to buy parts for your car when it breaks. This is normal practice in the repair industry.

It's a ridiculous amount to pay for a chip don't you think ??

Now we know that repairing stuff is not a walk in the park. Sometime we need to trek through the jungle. I mean electronic jungles.
Why should the customer pay and get the chip?
again -- great work ...
Smart move asking for advice in the commenting. It's almost like you have a free technical service team to assist you.
Sounds like a solid plan to me.
Well that's a gaming laptop, am sure the customer would buy the chip rather to not fix the laptop at all.

Hello, how are you

I need BIOS EC MSI GS76
i have ps5 digital cfi1200b01 after 2 second turn off please help
That board runs on smoke, not electricity. If the smoke came out, you need to add more smoke.
Awesome ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
4:54 4:55 whoa 😮
always those darn caps
Never seen a hole like this in a chip
Holy cow, 50bucks for a superIO???

Do you know this for sure or are you just guessing?
not always, sometimes it will be reprogramed from the bios , depending on SuperIO chip
Im never buying any msi or gigabyte products and definitely not an asus laptop......
