I used to do micro soldering for hobby and ended up doing pretty well. But you have surgeon hands and insane experience on the devices you repair. I love your videos because I watch them with kid eyes, amazed by the tools, the spare parts and your workspace. God bless you. Best wishes from Paris.
Excellent! Also, I placed and received your supplies from you a week or two ago and everything is absolutely great! I had to install a bunch of tiny JST connectors last week, and after every clean install, I would here a voice in my head telling me that it was "Better then factory!" ....of course, I am the factory, but the sentiment remains.
Awsome job, Alex! May i suggest you to make an universal flash drive test jig with a solid USB B (2.0/3.0) female connector with four/nine terminals. You can fasten the flash drive to the jig and connect wires from drive to the terminals. Then you have a rigged platform, you can connect and disconnect with ease and without being afraid of the fragile wires. Then you can give it to BigBoss to recover.
HELLZ YEAH! This video came across my Google Chrome feed, & I love watching soldering/electronics videos, + learning new things & different tools and methods of repair. You've definitely got a new subscriber in me. Thanks bro! Great vid!! 👍👍👌
I was warned about UV light coming out of my laptop screen when watching arc welding at Cutting Edge Engineering in Australia, when Curtis was mending diggers and suchlike. Curtis is quite a joker, but I love his site too with the clever, massive engineering he does.
Greetings. Spectacular. Thanks always for sharing and providing the invaluable bits of information you offer. You are undoubtedly educating thousands of individuals around the world. Thanks, thanks, and thanks. Be blessed.
Your work is great and you have a way to tell what you are doing that make it seems to be super easy to do, but I know it is a hard work. Thank you Alex for your video and time.
great work and well saved it looked beyond repair,,,,,,,,,,, your customer must be veryu happy to recover the files,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i presume you send the broken one back to them
Alix ! your channel is just one of the best around, if not he best with so much good information =) you learned me some things i didnt know about, that in turn made me able to change my IR laser diode on my HTC VR basestation =) soldered it in without any problems and found my ir node on some random site =D thank you mr husain for what you do =) your the MVP, greetings From norway
It looks like there was enough through-hole left on either end to secure the port down to the board and then jump wires from there to the traces/groundplane. Did you do the recovery repair differently so that it is difficult for the customer to keep using the drive on purpose then? It sounds like the smarter thing to do if I think about it I guess.
Sure!!! It wasn't bad enough that we get second hand UV exposure from the reflections on your videos. Now you are shining it right into my eyes.... TWICE! Expect a mail from my lawyer...
if the chips were still good but the board wasn't could you get another board and put the chips onto the other board to get the data or would it be erased from removing the chip
you need to offload data on your main c drive because it's in the red which means OS and applications will not perform as well due to not enough drive space for data operations.
I have got an artificial lens installed in my left eye. Now with my left I can see the most of UV light spectrum when with my right eye I can’t a thing.
Wow! This video was uploaded 5 hours ago which is 3 AM PST! That means that you're working crazy hours or you've got a system to schedule these uploads at crazy hours. Pretty sure it's the latter or you would be crazy. Good job either way. That did not look hopeful.
if you need only data recovery and you have another working compatible board, wouldn`t be easyer to move the memory chip on the good board and take the data out? Or you want to send the USB back too?
The further one gets away from the original source the higher the chance of error or loss. The controller may be serialized. The voltages on the various components of the new board may be wrong on the replacement board and may cause further or irreparable damage. Stick with the original and only transfer components to a new board in the most extreme cases (i.e. cracked circuit board, overwhelming number of missing components, etc.) The 'easiest' path is not always the 'safest' path.
Ok, thanks. I saw in some datasheets that the chip is pretty resistant at high temperatures, but I did not looked about data retention at that high temperatures. And by the same board, I meant some witch you know it used the same memory, or one with similar pinout and compatibilities.
I find it funny when people post things to the internet expecting other to believe it. Just because it is on the internet, does NOT make it true. UV light can only hurt you if you forget to wear your aluminum foil hat.
I have lights with sensors in the hause with bateries on the stairs to se better and one day the usb B port snapped, because i have the right tools i soldered back and surprise it works 😊😊😊and hdmi microscope its very important to have
Twice you shone that super powerful UV lamp through your camera, onto the internet, out of my monitor and into my eyes. You shall be hearing from my lawyer, Lionel Hutz.
People MUST learn to back up the data they have! It is common for data to be stored on a telephone or computer or USB memory stick and never be backed up. I have my most important data on 2 pcs. hard drives. I don't like new memory cards free tellerphone. if the phone breaks, all data is lost.
“Clips big enough to jump start my vehicle” 😂😂😂
😂
😂😂😂😂🎉
😂😂😂
Hahaha
I just completed my first USB data recovery using this as a guide. Thank you very much for all you are teaching so many people Northridge!

2:44 "big enough to jump start my vehicle" got me dying from laughing 😂😂😂
Lmao, the person who said UV light will damage the viewers eyes through the screen is probably living in shame in some far away island 😂
I just got a great tan from Alex pointing the UV light at us, cheaper than a holiday.
Yes ,Trump island.
@@trebel 🥱 ....HERE we go.
i dont get surprised anymore by the dumb shit people comment.
Today's monitors put out only a very tiny percentage of UV light compared to that of a CRT or even a fluorescent light did in the past.

A flash drive delight! The owner will dance around the room with unalloyed joy and relief to see her files rescued from the nether region! Bravo!

Only need the 4 usb 2.0 wires for data recovery. You probably don't care about the 3.0 speeds then.
@@JonHaa87if its a lot of data it might be worth getting usb 3.x for faster transfer overall faster job
That customer is going to call you Superman. Folks like you are heroes to the average person. Nice recovery.
Alex, you are an artist! Great repair, as always! Cheers from Austria
Absolutely amazing repair, it's mind blowing and inspiring to see your work, thank you.

Nice video, sometimes I think the data transfer will take longer than the actual repair 😅 greetings from germany 🇩🇪
i actually clapped when it was fixed. nicely done!
Love how you are keeping the theme music, new viewers might wonder, but the real fans know =)
great work and well saved it looked beyond repair,,,,,,,,,,, your customer must be veryu happy to recover the files,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i presume you send the broken one back to them
It feels good to see a successful work ❤️❤️

finally you mentioned what wipes you used 😅
was using discarded tempered glass wipes, they look the same
Love it. USB flash recoveries are my favorite. ❤
Peralatan kerja yg sangat mendukung dan ditambah skill yg ok
Awesome Alex
Another great job saving a customer's data, perhaps one of the best services/repairs you offer. Also, more bad 4090 connectors? Say it ain't so! /s

Well done, sir.
Thanks for another great video. What chair do you use?
Good work, good work 👌
You made someone happy.
Am planning to download the UV light video and use it later
When the drive didnt show up after pulling it out ... i was like ... omg this didnt just happen right ... 😅
Great repair and knowledge as allways 👌😎
GENIUS !!!!! This is why Right To Repair Laws should be nationwide !
GENIUS !!!!!
Great work!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome work!

Good job mate 👍
Those hot tweezers are very useful. You dont sell anymore?
Husbands being husbands 😆
"Hey, babe. I think I can fix that for you. Let me grab my aligator clips..."
more important question @NorthridgeFix , what watch are you wearing here?
Outstanding job!
Amazing work as always!
Wooooooow did he mention he invented the anti-glare light?
This UV light is really penetrating my screen. My eyessssss..😂😂😂
Every time he mentions it, I think of Manfred Mann - Blinded by the light 😂
I'm saving a lot of money getting tanning with his UV lamp on the screen, instead than buying one
nice job .crock clips got big tips 😂 the customer was luckey that he did not Fry the chipsets
What temperature u use for soldering ? in °C , please
you are funny - I like watching and enjoy the snark comments while you're fixing. Awesome.
Awesome man, love your videos!
let me just rewind and get my sunnies, i wasnt ready for the exposure today.. haha
good to see judicious use of flux :)
if the chips were still good but the board wasn't could you get another board and put the chips onto the other board to get the data or would it be erased from removing the chip
"The wires are connected to aligator clips, big enough to jump start my VEHICLE" 🤣🤣
You make me laugh almost every time! 💯
Well done 👍 keep up the great work 😎
Mashallah... Love from Pakistan.
Hey Alex, what happened to your house hunting? Maybe you could mention it in a video?
I enjoyed your tours of the California housing stock.
you need to offload data on your main c drive because it's in the red which means OS and applications will not perform as well due to not enough drive space for data operations.
I did this same kind of work some 10 years ago with my own USB flash drive.
That UV Light joke, never gets old. 😅
Have you had any 4090s that were released later with the shortened sense pins that have still had melted connectors ?
I've got one of those space folding monitors like in the movie De-Ja-Vu. Your UV light " broached the field " 🤣
I have never seen anything like this :D the alligator clips......fantastic idea
Always love watching your videos, wish I could order from your store but you don't ship to South Africa, could I arrange my own courier?
nice work 👍👍👏👏
Perfect
I have got an artificial lens installed in my left eye. Now with my left I can see the most of UV light spectrum when with my right eye I can’t a thing.
I've watched so many of your videos recently that I am now talking like you Alex 😂
I hope that was a VM. Gotta be careful plugging unknown USB devices in. 14:52

you can solder ground to the spot where the usb connector mounts. its all ground.
Please, in a next vid let the background song to play a little bit more, we all like that.
"big enough to jump start my vehicle " 😂😂
Looks like he did try and jump start his car with that board. Lol
Nice save! Geez what goes through people's heads? Give me a good pack of radio shack alligator clips to work on anything 😂
This is great sir. Can your store ship to Algeria?
wouldnt it be easier to buy the same working model usb drive and just replace the chip so they get all the data?
Does the UV light get hot?
Awesome
why not grind the board connections?
Bravoooooo. 🎉 always stay posative
if you need only data recovery and you have another working compatible board, wouldn`t be easyer to move the memory chip on the good board and take the data out?
Or you want to send the USB back too?
It could be risky desoldering and moving these chips, may cause damage or chip might end up dead from excess heat.
Flash memory does not like being heated. If it's already half-dead, soldering may finish it off.
Ok, thanks. I saw in some datasheets that the chip is pretty resistant at high temperatures, but I did not looked about data retention at that high temperatures.
And by the same board, I meant some witch you know it used the same memory, or one with similar pinout and compatibilities.
What about SSD CARD Repairing . Please make 1 video on it

That was a great fix, his wife will be ticked pink to recover her photographs.
Legend 😂 "big enough to jump start my vehicle"
Alex, why did you grind the board for ground ? It was already present. Work smart, not hard 😉
Send me a link so that I can get the tools through you
Ah I forgot to look away when the UV came out. Totally hurt my eyes 😆
"big enough to jump start my vehicle" haha that was a good one xD
nice
I always love the UVA light eye-damage for viewers joke
A day without Alex is a wasted one 😉
Time to clean up the C: drive ;-p
Ohh damm that UV light joke again 😂😂 who was the genus 😂😂
Awesome ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Super
