I love how he always take time to admire nice laptops at the beginning 😅
Yeah admire a nice dead laptop 😂
I managed to fix my sons charging port on this exact same laptop (GF65 slim) last weekend.
It was my first laptop repair.
I only have a old duck smith solder iron and a cheap 20$ Ali express hot air gun.
I took a gamble and bought a GF63 slim port as it was $15 cheaper and it fit perfectly.
We have pictureeee❤
Switching and linear power supplies have different behaviours that can lead to a wrong diagnosis.
Switching power supplies they turn off if the output is shorted. It has to do with their working principle, it tries to stabilize the output voltage by monitoring it through a feedback, if the output voltage is below a certain threshold it turns the power on to raise the voltage up, once the voltage gets high enough to a certain point it turns the power off and just the power stored on the output capacitors is now powering the line and it repeats from there, that happens so fast that you don't see a variation on voltage on most common multimeters. So if the output is shorted the voltage output is never going to be in spec so the monitoring is always going to see a low voltage and the controller is going to enter protection mode which turns the power supply off.
Now, linear power supplies are different beasts, they don't care if the output is shorted, they keep pushing power into the output. That causes the power supply to heat up cause it physically cannot handle the amount of current passing through it, it's like all the power that's supposed to go to the output is being bottlenecked by the power supply itself therefore it gets hot instead of whatever is causing the short on the ouput.
A lot of laptops have linear power supplies for the 5V and 3.3V which are often called "5V_ALW" and "3v3_ALW" (ALW stands for "always") and those are not to be confused with the main 3.3V and 5V rails which are created by switching power supplies which you can find then at coils. The "always" power rails shows up before the main ones and those are usually what powers the EC and other parts of the circuit that are handled by a earlier part of the starting sequence.
All being said, if a chip is getting hot, don't just jump to conclusions and think the chip is shorted. Try to at least find the datasheet and what the chip is supposed to do, if it's a power supply try diagnosing the output. if the output is not shorted it could be that power supply is powering another linear power supply which the output is shorted.
great comment, thanks!
Why can't you teach us
U_ALW like this ?
great comment , i think you forget to mention that the same ic like main power ic can produces both linear and switching power supply .
@@boudrass Oh yeah, that's a very good point. In most laptop circuits, and i've seen in some mini pcs that have a similar circuit like the lenovo m93p, there is one chip that handles all of that, has internal linear power supplies (LDO) for 3v3 and 5v and it also controls the 3v3 and 5v switching power supplies. The TPS51225 is a good example of that.
I was able to predict this fault and how it can be repaired thank you Sorin you are a legend man!
It's sad previous repair attempt was exactly correct pin pointing the faulty chip just didn't solder well
Wonderful job, and like always, thank you for the lessons 👏
Excellent job master sorin
Great video again...thanks for sharing Mr Soring Respect always
My morning gift from Sorin..Thank you..
Nice work Mr Sorin thank you for sharing this video❤
I love your video's. You give second chances to faulty laptop's. Amazing
Super Sorin!!!!toujours au TOP!!!!!
Another great repair Sorin. God bless you!☺
nice job ! love to see you how you easy replacing big chips just by hand , tweezers and hotair :)
I learn from you. What a gift!
ANOTHER nice repair video! Thanks Sorin! 🙂
The Master at his finest! ☀️
Good job mate 👍
well done, Sorin!
Nice work sir
I have the exact motherboard with blown hm470 SRJAU. Dye upper (mirror) layer exploded ? I'll have fun replacing it when it arrives... 😊👍
Thank you, teacher, a beautiful repair, again.
Another nice jobs 👍🏻
24:17 we have picture... and I smell fried skin!
Good job💯👍👏
Good job
Nice find second fault i did not see it
wow so very nice tutorial.
nice video!thx
your new moto "no picture no life!"
nice job
Predicting that there are unsoldered chip is insane. He did not even need a schematic
I have a similar problem with a board. 3.3V chip is getting hot, replaced it, still hot. One capacitor near this chips has just 1.6 Ohms, so wat would be my next steps to find the problem? Checking the EC Chip?
you forgot to clean solder from the old isi chip, i mean you left it on center and placed new chip
Hi Sorin, what is the procedure for international customers who would like to send you a few motherboards etc?
Cheers
How can one tell the main power rail any where on the board?
How do you check like you checked the first capacitor and know the main power rail is not shorted? How to find that capacitor?
Sorin the Master. What's the number on the 3.3 chip? (The chip that wasn't soldered correctly).
Have you recently fixed any MS Surface Laptop 4? These things are tricky little things
Is it possible that the ene chip was good, and only 3.3 V didn't work? Was it possible to check 3.3 V when the ene chip was removed?
It's never a good idea to put power into the board when it's missing important components. In some especific cases you could try that but in doubt don't try it, it could lead to further damage of the board.
I think 3,3 must be present without ene chip.
Sorin, first of all i want to thank you for your videos, i learn a lot from you!. i have always wondered why your soldering iron is able to clear the solder blobs that come underneath chips, in my case, that blob ends up merging three to four legs of the chip and i end up in a mess, Whats the trick? Anyone with advice Please😁?
high quality flux and good quality solder along with good iron tip will do it
@@Customer22374rt Oh thank you!
my msi laptop its always have burned ic power, i change for new one, after 1 month its blow up again, i check all the voltage and amp its normal, but why its keeping blow after 1 month? Any idea? Thanks 👌
Hej just subscribed to you. I live in sweden. I have about 5 laptops that i have laying around because sme have screen problems / broken etc. If i cant fix the screens can i take out the HD and then is there a HD reader that will allow me to acess these HD drives ? I have alot of data on these HD Drives . Thanx
If your hard drives are not faulty yes, you can indeed read the data off your hard drives. If you do have a PC you can plug your hard drives into the mother board sata connector to read it or else you have to get a laptop hard disk casing, plug it into your PC or laptop USB port to access/copy your data.
Yes, you can. There are tons and tons of usb adapters for every recent hdd/ssd formats and even some for the older ones like PATA (IDE). Just check the online market of your choice for "XYZ to USB" (replace XYZ by your type of storage connector (format factor)
prof help me. I have a msi gf63 case it won't turn on the indicator led is also off, but strangely I charge the battery the charging indicator lights up like a normal laptop and the amperage on the psu also goes out because it's charging the battery. is this part of the bios ic or kb9026
Hi
I really enjoy your videos Thank you for the great content.
I have a question and if you don't mind answering me how much do you get paid for each repair?
I'm asking because I work in the same field.
I would be very happy If you share this information with us.
Thank you.
He charges £80 usually, I think.
Pointing and holding the chip on your middle finger 🤣💰
How do u connect those laptop adapters to your power supply
Crocodile Clips bro
Sorin, FLUX is your friend!
Do u keep the spare MB or you return it to the customer ?
Most likely he will ask if the customer doesn't offer, but keeping it without asking is the wrong thing to do.
Hello everyone, Dell Inspiron 15, PCB dell vegas 15341-1. The laptop does not start, does not provide 3.3V ALWS and 5V ALWS because it does not receive enable from EC (ALWON signal). The ISL circuit provides ACOK for EC but EC no longer provides ALWON for the 3.3V and 5V ALWS source built with TPS51225. EC is supplied with 3V from 3VLDO.
Please tell me what other conditions can inhibit EC that not to provide ALWON?
Ask your question in Sorin's forum. The link is in the video description. You'll be much more likely to get help there rather than in YT comments.
I asked the question on the forum but no one answered, I saw many unanswered questions, I think not many people visit the forum
Hello🤝God work 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋
This same model as my working laptop, why ec chip burned
Hello guys kinda newbie just wanna ask what kind of chip is this and how can i buy it i have a customer here that have same problem same pc so i did the same diagnosis of this turial and the result are the same too so iwas trying to find this specic chip to replace it someone pls hlp 19:13
By schematic that PU5 ic is 1.2v dimm
Hi can anyone help I have a Lenovo t460 laptop the power cut off when inserting the charger. So this is a motherboard short. There was a short either side of the current sensor so I removed it and short was on output side. I injected 5v and it was taking 2amps. A intergrated mosfet driver ic was getting very hot. All caps around short to ground. I removed mosfet and short was resolved. The mosfet is 81381 model number. Does anyone have this mosfet that I can buy on eBay ? Cheers. And since short is now gone. It’s definitely the mosfet that’s the issue ??
A beautiful day 👍
where can i find this exact same chip ?
laptop nvidia gpu can be repaired or not
😂omg you are so much amazing ❤
Did I understand the verdict correctly? The power supply input/output chip was shorted because it was soldered on with too less solder. That's why the Super IO IC was getting hot. Because it was getting hot it died. Solution: Change Super IO Chip & resolve existing power supply input/output chip
I think it's as following: the Super IO ship git shorted meaning that it's getting hot but at the same time that smaller ship which is supplying the 3.3 also is getting hot becouse the super io is shorted and drowing more current than what the smaller ship is designed for ( mostly the original smaller ship was fine and not shorted yet ), the customer found out that the smaller ship is getting hot and replaced it assuming that it was shorted ( which is mostly not true ) and he didn't solder it properly ( if he did solder it properly it will also start getting hot as the super io is shorted and drowning more current that usually ) , sorin replaced the shorted super io with a working one, no short here but still the 3.3 is missing due the coustomer nor Soldering the smaller ship correctly, so soring soldered the smaller ship correctly and the 3.3 line worked fine supplying power to the super io
@@storygoldteam8843i believe this was the point
as an idiot with total NO skil and instruments like thermal camera etc ..l at all ... can i ask you if my PCH chip on my OLD Laptop with intel i3-4100m go at 70-80 Celsium do its a BAD chip as all or is broken something what are linket to the chip .... oR iTs JUSt normal temperature for that old pch chip ?
Is there anyone like this guy in US
Magic Sorin
what is the name of the chip. And where can I find it to buy it?
i need it too
Genius..
Is he saying "AC chip" or something else, like "EC chip"? Not sure if it is just a mistake
