I see your point, but if you want to learn magic you tend to prefer a wizard to a sorcerer: a wizard can tell you how they learned and give you guidelines, while a sorcerer is born with magic, they never experienced the process of learning it, so they shouldn't necessarily be a good teacher either. What I mean is, what you say is not wrong: having experienced a situation doesn't mean being able to treat it. What I also mean is, being very good at something (eg. Fjord - charisma) doesn't automatically make you a good theacher of that thing. Being a good teacher is a completely different skill, in one case or the other.

As a DM myself who does a weekly session, it is not that surprising. I look at my players stats so much so I can balance encounters and prepare them for some stuff, it just comes naturally. And being an actor who has to memorize a lot of stuff in a short time anyway I guess it's even more natural. But either way you're right, Travis' reaction was awesome!
Oh, I just feel terrible for Laura in this episode! She was having such terrible luck, and at this point, she is right in that part of the pregnancy where you're starting to feel uncomfortable all the time, you're easily overwhelmed, your hormones are pumping in a way that makes you feel like an angsty teenager, the fact that she shows up for almost every episode despite being pregnant is laborious. I feel you, girl!
Granted, I had relatively easy pregnancies, but the worst part about being pregnant was just how out of control of my emotions I was despite simultaneously knowing they were overblown. Her walking away and just growling about being pregnant was SO RELATABLE.
They were all so sweet to her, I’ve never seen them be more loving & supportive on a failed throw ❤. The party could sense her getting more & more upset, but leave it to any husband to push his wife over the edge! 😂😂😂

Can I just say I love this moment? And not just Sam, but Taliesin, Liam and Matt all noticed it too and you catch each one of them smiling when they realize what's going on. God, they're such a family... Gives me all the warm fuzzy feelings ☺️
There are so many reasons to like Travis (and the others). But one thing I find particularly wonderful, is whenever Matt corrects him on a rule, he never gets upset, he just says "Lesson learned". He knows Matt isn't there to be a dick, he's just upholding the rules, and he respects it.

Everyone is so sweet and funny reacting to Laura with her pregnancy hormones/rage, but I just have to note how incredibly sweet and caretaking Sam is the entire time. He makes jokes that are so supportive of her/trying to build her up and holds her chair out, gently sits next to her and tries to soothe her, often. It’s quite wonderful.

It's good advice. People with high charisma often don't consciously know how to deal with people well. It's just something they do. You don't ask Superman for advice on bodybuilding: he doesn't need to work out.

I love Travis so much. His hex didn't do what he was expecting it to do? He just smiles at Matt and goes "Good to know next time". No "oh wait can I change it" or "oh wait can it work just this one time" he just goes with it and is like "oh well. good to know"
Sam is good at this, too. I like that he often times says "does Scanlan/Nott know that?" when he does something and the others say not to because of whatever reason.

Notice how Nott and Molly had had a dream about being someone else. Nott feels uncomfortable in her own skin and Molly started his life as someone else.
Those questions provided a lot of subtle information about the characters. Molly and Jester would both believe something from a dream, but Caleb would dismiss dreams (I'm certain he has plenty of bad ones). Jester wouldn't want to be someone else, so of course she doesn't dream about being someone else.

GOt to agree. Re-watching campaign 2 due to the virus. gotta say, Sam used to be my favorite but Travis has taken the top position. Others noted how he's the party "acknowledger" -laughs at other people's joke, acknowledges the cool things people do with their character and being the hype man in the game. A genuine person who plays his character well but doesn't use it as a crutch or an excuse to how the character is portrayed.

Travis is a really mature and level headed person. Some other players can take things like bad rolls or calls they disagree with personally and sulk a bit, but Travis just sees it as part of the fun. I super respect him.

@@cello1993 I think Ashley made a mistake reducing her HPs at some point because (and I may be wrong) the math seemed to check out with the HPs we were seeing on screen and what happened during the fight. So she should technically have had 3 left, as was displayed on screen, but ended up with a little bit more on her side by adding up wrong at some point before.
Yeah I mean it basically looks like she just cheated and ignored that she took 5 damage at 3hp. Bothered me. I mean, generously she got the math wrong or something but I don't think so. Could have misread mis-remembered the battle rager trait but that is at level 11 and requires a roll. Constant never ending non-knowledge of what your rolls even are always seems off to me.
@@Varusdc1 I'm pretty sure that some of the HP totals are wrong for example Caleb actually only had like 27 HP total but it says he has 31, so my assumption is that she has more HP total than what's shown on screen.
Some of the on screen totals were wrong. Toward the beginning of the encounter Yasha took 7 damage but her on screen hp dropped by 11 points. Ashley’s math was correct.
He was literally contemplating killing caleb bc he had already failed 1 death save if he did the thunderwave he would of died bc if you get hit while unconscious it is an automatic 2 failed death saves thats y he had it move so they would of got an attack of opportunity wow that was close holy shit 😅😅😅
@@blandiblueNo, he would've been fine. You only fail two death saving throws if you receive an attack from a creature adjacent to you. The merrow priest was more than five feet, and Thunderwave forces a saving throw and is thus not an attack anyway.

@@alexbeltran6668 From what I understand (I may be wrong), before CR moved from Geek & Sundry they streamed on both twitch and Alpha (Streaming Service or something) and the Alpha overlay was better than the twitch one (Comparing this with the older one) and after they moved away from G&S they didn't want the logo on their overlay anymore so they just used the Alpha VODS instead. They moved away from G&S at ep.50

@@DwiteLoot After watching the entirety of campaign 1 and now I'm like 50+ on campaign 2 I will say that Liam and Marisha both get into the mind set of their characters while playing which can bleed out into out of character conversation at time. As Beau and Caleb become closer those two around the table become closer if that makes sense? Outside of the game they are great friends, but when they're in character it is often hard to separate them, from their on-table personas.
I’m just glad we’re getting some one on one with the two. I don’t remember Keyleth and Grog being much outside of friends, so seeing them play with a sort of “mentor, student” angle is really fun.

When the introvert with little experience asks the circus carne that dealt with big crowds how to handle being in the group. I'm not making any shipper threads yet but I would love to see something. We had the pairings last campaign, some worked well others never taking off, but this? Who knows, I'm watching this for the first time around at the moment of writing this.
My favourite moment is when Matt mentions Kord and Travis is shook! I think he was thinking about what Grog missed out on by not following that path but is also Ashley's proud barbarian dad.

I feel like Travis has the utmost respect for Matt on so many levels. I know they all seem to respect one another quite a lot just in general but Travis's respect and admiration for Matt as a person seems the greatest by far.
@@user-Aaron- It's kind of easy to take Matt for granted a little bit, almost BECAUSE he is so talented, he literally becomes the background noise lol. You sort of have to stop and remember that he is a human being who is making insane noises, not a very impressive AI lol. And he's so quick witted in a genre nonspecific way, the others are very good at what they do and a couple other things, It seems like you could throw Matt into a shakespearian drama, a grim dark horror story, or a slapstick comedy, and he'd be equally talented at them all.

His baseline of how well he does everything is so incredibly consistent that it makes him fade into the background and makes everyone else's impressiveness stand out more. It's too bad we don't get to see Matt shine every now and then as much as the rest of the cast because he's always too busy being the game itself and its narrator while managing a dozen different things both in and out of game. Also I think episode 24 at 3:34:04 is a perfect example of just about everything we've talked about! It's gotta be one of my favourite Matt and Matt-and-Travis moments!

I see your point, but if you want to learn magic you tend to prefer a wizard to a sorcerer: a wizard can tell you how they learned and give you guidelines, while a sorcerer is born with magic, they never experienced the process of learning it, so they shouldn't necessarily be a good teacher either.
What I mean is, what you say is not wrong: having experienced a situation doesn't mean being able to treat it. What I also mean is, being very good at something (eg. Fjord - charisma) doesn't automatically make you a good theacher of that thing.

Maybe you wouldn't be pleased by it, but knowing the cast of Critical Role they would freak out and find it amazing and hilarious. Your goal as a DM isn't to write a novel, its to have fun and ensure your players are having fun.
Adam Albee Uh what? Having a deus ex machina is more like writing a novel than having it be a regular NPC. If you make a deus ex machina it is you bailing out the players as DM, taking away their ability to fail and writing the story for them.

As a DM myself who does a weekly session, it is not that surprising. I look at my players stats so much so I can balance encounters and prepare them for some stuff, it just comes naturally. And being an actor who has to memorize a lot of stuff in a short time anyway I guess it's even more natural.

Oh, I just feel terrible for Laura in this episode! She was having such terrible luck, and at this point, she is right in that part of the pregnancy where you're starting to feel uncomfortable all the time, you're easily overwhelmed, your hormones are pumping in a way that makes you feel like an angsty teenager, the fact that she shows up for almost every episode despite being pregnant is laborious. I feel you, girl!
Granted, I had relatively easy pregnancies, but the worst part about being pregnant was just how out of control of my emotions I was despite simultaneously knowing they were overblown. Her walking away and just growling about being pregnant was SO RELATABLE.
I DMed through my whole pregnancy, can confirm, very emotional, my party was a great support though.
They were all so sweet to her, I’ve never seen them be more loving & supportive on a failed throw ❤. The party could sense her getting more & more upset, but leave it to any husband to push his wife over the edge! 😂😂😂

There are so many reasons to like Travis (and the others). But one thing I find particularly wonderful, is whenever Matt corrects him on a rule, he never gets upset, he just says "Lesson learned". He knows Matt isn't there to be a dick, he's just upholding the rules, and he respects it.
I love the moments like that with Liam (and Taliesin too) where they're like your call bc you're the DM

Everyone is so sweet and funny reacting to Laura with her pregnancy hormones/rage, but I just have to note how incredibly sweet and caretaking Sam is the entire time. He makes jokes that are so supportive of her/trying to build her up and holds her chair out, gently sits next to her and tries to soothe her, often. It’s quite wonderful.
You can tell who's had kids and who hasn't for sure.
He also helped her hide her tummy whenever she got up before she and Travis had officially announced it ❤ Friendship goals.

Notice how Nott and Molly had had a dream about being someone else. Nott feels uncomfortable in her own skin and Molly started his life as someone else.
Those questions provided a lot of subtle information about the characters. Molly and Jester would both believe something from a dream, but Caleb would dismiss dreams (I'm certain he has plenty of bad ones). Jester wouldn't want to be someone else, so of course she doesn't dream about being someone else.
And Fyord literally had a dream in this episode about being in his ex mentors body

GOt to agree. Re-watching campaign 2 due to the virus. gotta say, Sam used to be my favorite but Travis has taken the top position. Others noted how he's the party "acknowledger" -laughs at other people's joke, acknowledges the cool things people do with their character and being the hype man in the game. A genuine person who plays his character well but doesn't use it as a crutch or an excuse to how the character is portrayed.

Travis is a really mature and level headed person. Some other players can take things like bad rolls or calls they disagree with personally and sulk a bit, but Travis just sees it as part of the fun. I super respect him.

@@cello1993 I think Ashley made a mistake reducing her HPs at some point because (and I may be wrong) the math seemed to check out with the HPs we were seeing on screen and what happened during the fight. So she should technically have had 3 left, as was displayed on screen, but ended up with a little bit more on her side by adding up wrong at some point before.
Yeah I mean it basically looks like she just cheated and ignored that she took 5 damage at 3hp. Bothered me. I mean, generously she got the math wrong or something but I don't think so. Could have misread mis-remembered the battle rager trait but that is at level 11 and requires a roll. Constant never ending non-knowledge of what your rolls even are always seems off to me.
@@Varusdc1 I'm pretty sure that some of the HP totals are wrong for example Caleb actually only had like 27 HP total but it says he has 31, so my assumption is that she has more HP total than what's shown on screen.
Some of the on screen totals were wrong. Toward the beginning of the encounter Yasha took 7 damage but her on screen hp dropped by 11 points. Ashley’s math was correct.

@@blandiblueNo, he would've been fine. You only fail two death saving throws if you receive an attack from a creature adjacent to you. The merrow priest was more than five feet, and Thunderwave forces a saving throw and is thus not an attack anyway.

They moved away from G&S at ep.50

As Beau and Caleb become closer those two around the table become closer if that makes sense? Outside of the game they are great friends, but when they're in character it is often hard to separate them, from their on-table personas.

My favourite moment is when Matt mentions Kord and Travis is shook! I think he was thinking about what Grog missed out on by not following that path but is also Ashley's proud barbarian dad.
1:57:44 I love watching Travis marvel at how Matt's brain works. He does it a lot and it's always so sincere and sweet. The subtext it always like "My friend's a Genius and I love him!" lol
I feel like Travis has the utmost respect for Matt on so many levels. I know they all seem to respect one another quite a lot just in general but Travis's respect and admiration for Matt as a person seems the greatest by far.
@@user-Aaron- It's kind of easy to take Matt for granted a little bit, almost BECAUSE he is so talented, he literally becomes the background noise lol. You sort of have to stop and remember that he is a human being who is making insane noises, not a very impressive AI lol. And he's so quick witted in a genre nonspecific way, the others are very good at what they do and a couple other things, It seems like you could throw Matt into a shakespearian drama, a grim dark horror story, or a slapstick comedy, and he'd be equally talented at them all.
@@mayaenglish5424 Yeah, definitely! His baseline of how well he does everything is so incredibly consistent that it makes him fade into the background and makes everyone else's impressiveness stand out more. It's too bad we don't get to see Matt shine every now and then as much as the rest of the cast because he's always too busy being the game itself and its narrator while managing a dozen different things both in and out of game.
Also I think episode 24 at 3:34:04 is a perfect example of just about everything we've talked about! It's gotta be one of my favourite Matt and Matt-and-Travis moments!
