They exist to teach the fundamentals of gun safety and things like aim. I had my first when I was 6 and had several throughout my childhood.

I find it rather hard for a huge family in the numbers that they are traveling with and no one even notices that Kavin is not there? Not in the van sure the one girl counted the other kid by mistake, but what about when they reached the airport or driving to the airport that's a lot of eyes seeing whole lot of nothing. Kavin is so invisible to his family he might as well run away probably take them a whole week before they notice him gone. I have no sympathy for that mom or anyone in his family. I love the whole robbers trying to break in and him defending the home that is funny stuff, But I don't excuse the family at all. Now days you do something like that your kids get taken away. Lucky Kavin didn't get taken by Child service when the mom called when she told them that she left him at home alone. An 8-year-old alone. I am surprised Kevin wasn't removed from the family. Home Alone in my country is almost a national tradition. It's not a Christmas if Home Alone doesn't show on TV.
There were so many people in the house because there were aunts, uncles, and cousins there so they could all leave together in the morning for France.
