I must confess that I also like that color, and love the care and attention you put into prepping for that color and for the road. Very well done guys!
This is one of the builds you guys have done that I actually like and that was actually done right for what it is. Most of your project, not just yours but the other Powernation builds also I'm usually screaming "Hey while your there hit that with some sandpaper or atleast a wire brush and some rubbing alcohol and hit that with some spray paint, it literally takes 10 minutes for Spray paint to dry and it's a cheap fix, not even a "home builder" is going to bolt up a brand new part to something that looks like it was underwater for 5 years. clean it up and paint it!" but this one was done right for what it is.
lol.... I love how PN starts a project as "something you can do in your garage" and end-up with a complete re-wire, new motor, complete re-paint and a bunch of new body parts.
@@tristannivens3269 lots of spray paint. Shake your cans up really good, wetsand every coat and spray it on thin. Then add your clearcoat if you want. If you take your time, it'll look just as good or better than a spray booth job. I spray painted an '87 iroc Camaro for someone and it looks amazing even now six years later. It turns heads and costed about a hundred bucks.
@@tristannivens3269 yeah you can do it just as good. I did a complete ground up resto on my 67 fairlane ,hung plastic in my two car garage , used two stage paint. I've won three best of show trophies and several others. Just gotta do some homework and TAKE YOUR TIME. It's just like they say 95% prep and 5% paint, but it can be done.
BRAVO GUYS!! What a couple of great personalities to keep us novices entertained and interested in your show without making us feel like complete idiots! Easy to follow as we do the same in our projects!!! BRAVO!!!!
Another important note they failed to mention. When you replace the headlight assemblies, make sure you get them aimed properly so you aren't coon hunting and/or blinding other drivers.
Although I agree with the frame part because I would have done it however this was just to show people you could have a cool classic daily driver truck for not much money, what they did with it is equivelant to of about what we would cost 5-6k. They probally paid $800-$1000 for the truck, the engine was probally $800-$1000, the rebuild kit was around $200, the stuff to do the body was another $500-$700 the paint would have been another $400-500, the wheels were $100 from the boneyard plus the time to sanblast them and repaint them, the new tires, headlights and tailights were another $500 the new suspenson stuff was another $500 plus the seat cover. If they would have redone the frame they would have more than likely had to buy a new wire harnass plus spent all the extra money for the new parts and paints they needed for the frame. This wasn't a build like that, this was stuff you can do easily in your own garage and have a nice truck at a reasonable price.
Why would you get rid of the 6 lug rotors? They are factory on heavy half ton 2wd. Swap out the rear to 4wd axles. Then you can use the modern 16", 17", 18" 6 lug rims. I have a set of 2006 17" steel wheels on my 88 1500 and they look good.
Like the truck as you've done it. Apart from the body work (which I DETEST) I could restore that truck with my mechanical skills. At least it's within my grasp.
eh..... it's a daily driver that can still be used as a truck but is still cool enough to take to a cruise night, I think they did exactly what should have been to it.
You guys should build a pre runner Toyota 4Runner. Full long travel. With a rear mounted turbo that is oil less. I love watching what different things you come up with.
I painted the front of my Ranger under a tree while half drunk. Did'nt think it was worth much prep or care from bugs. Turned out good. That was 10 years ago. Just got off my ass couple months ago and color sanded it. Looks better than a lot of body shops do around where I live. You never know.
You guys sure make it look easy, and for a guy like myself it is, however you should also tell your viewers to use MSDS sheets for reference to how long it takes to flash for ex, also let the viewers know how much paint and materials cost, it's easy to blow a grand on entry level paint materials not withstanding tape sandpaper etc.. your viewers should be told this.
Enjoyed this build. I just sold my 94 Silverado Z71 4X4 short bed last year. It got so I was putting about $300 into it about twice a month and I just got tired of working on it. Bought a 2021 Colorado Z71 and couldn't be happier. Now what am I going to do with all these tools?
@@TheREALOC1972 it was really nothing to do with saving $. It was the break downs and skinned up knuckles. We had good equity in our trade in so our payment is a lot less than 1/2 a G.
@@donparker1823 yep your payment is less than $500 but what about the full coverage that you now have top have? and the sales tax and increased property tax when getting it licensed? there's alot more increase in having a car payment then just the car payment that you don;t have with a classic car/truck that people seem to forget about, when you add all that it makes your expense to about a grand a month.

Plus classics have soul, new cars are just soulless blobs of plastic.
Guys. I love your content and hope you keep it coming. One pet peeve if you don't mind and you did the same thing on the last obs. Why in the "h" "e" double hockey sticks would you even consider leaving the door handles and mirrors the hideous factory black???? Paint them to match!! Please. For the love of God fix this.
Why? This was a budget build and show people how to buy and build a cheap daily driver/cruise in quality truck for 5-6k. I would have just repainted them black.
Because it wouldn't have cost any extra and it's that kind of attention to detail that sets any job apart from the rest. So little effort would have made an okay job sooo much better. That's all. It was still a way nicer looking truck after. Just could have been better.
Very little tape would be needed. The handles and mirrors come off very easily. But you know, everyone has their own ideas of what is nice looking and what isn't. At the end of the day all that matters is whether we like our work or not. It would be so nice to have access to all the tools and machinery they have on powernation. Not to mention the skills those guys all possess.
@@randyjones1618 Yeah having all those tools would be nice but alot of what they do isn't too complicated if people would take the time to do it and the "complicated stuff" isn;t that complicated, their are manuals that will teach you step by step to to do everything, the first time I ever rebuilt an engine my dad handed me a manual and said "Do it by the manual", it wasn't that hard. same thing with welding, he handed me a piece of steel and told me to go to won and figure it out.
Those Chevy trucks always looked basic and boring. OBS Ford trucks were the true superstars of the 90's. They were the sharpest looking trucks on the road.
It depends on the manufacturer. I put a set of EBC rotors on my car and everyone said they were backwards. I pointed out they were stamped L & R from the factory and they were installed as per the manufacturer. Some manufacturers don't even mark Left and right because it doesn't matter. I wish I could find the video (saw it several years ago) where a test was done to determine if one direction was better than the other on a variety of manufacturers and there was very little difference. In reality, the only time it actually matters is when you are getting into the extreme high performance setups where you are paying $4K or more for full race brake systems. The cuts, dimples, and drilled holes are very specific to a scientific level.
It's a cheap daily driver.... why spend 20 hours fixing a fender on a cheap daily driver build when a new fender is a $100. It's going to cost you more money and time to fix the original fender anyway.
