Would have literally taken only a few minutes. Not talking about disassembling completely, just clean and paint the parts that are visible and that contact the new carpet so you don’t leave rust stains on the brand new carpet.
That spring compressor is a new one to me! The rods through the oil galley trick is a new one to me also. You can tell that I'm new to the LS platform.
LS platform is popular because they’re relatively cheap, pretty dependable, make power effortlessly, and are EASY to work on👌🏼 I mean, you remove & replace ALL 8 rocker arms from each head at once…no adjustment, no nothing 🤷🏻♂️ They’re stupid simple!! And without all the extra covers, hoses, wiring BS they’re as easy to tear down and put back together as a purpose built racecar engine is…if not even easier 😎
I like the truck, and I miss my 97. Not sure why they didn’t put the lower air dam on the new bumper, would finish the front of the truck nicely. Also, I don’t know what it sounds like in person, but I don’t hear any lope at all in the idle. Nice job freshening a solid truck though. May have saved it from becoming scrap.
7:12 Not sure if they used some kind of backwards method to advance the cam, but the timing mark on the cam gear is about 1.5 - 2 teeth off center when installed. That might be an issue later on…
Perhaps, Pat and Frankie's advice and help here, would have been an excellent idea, if so. I would definitely have not been afraid to ask for them to oversee that part! I always love to learn from the Pros! One could never ever go wrong.
I love this video. I have a 95 that is my project and so much of the things you're showing work on my truck. Instead of an LS swap though I'm leaning towards an HT383 for mine because it's 4wd. There are a few things I want to do with it that will make it a beast. My dash is my biggest issue though because they don't make replacements for them.
Big motor leads to rebuilt-new trans and transfer case. Which then blows your ten bolt rear and front ifs. Then after that it rips the suspension mount points from the frame. Then after breaking a few driveshafts you realise lift blocks are bad ideas. That's called project escalation.
I have the 12 bolt semi-float rear end. There is a video of a burb that has one in it doing burnouts with what looks like a factory 10 bolt. The engine isn't the only upgrade that I'm going to be doing. It's just what I was mentioning because of what was mentioned in this video
I’ve got a 127K mile Sierra SLE rcsb stepside myself…already swapped in an aluminum headed 496ci BBC with Super Sniper TBI/EFI (650ish N/A ‘for now’ hp…should be 1000hp easily with 10psi boost even on 93 octane pump gas), built/stalled but stock case 4L60E, and stock 10 bolt with just a mini-spool/3.73 gears👌🏼 Soon to be installing a Grand National style full-floating 9” Ford (already broke the 10 bolt twice in 1 year) 🤣 Point is: Do what YOU want and have fun with YOUR truck 👏🏼
We used to take the vortec engines, add a mid range cam, headers, and carb instead of the tbi,and back in the 90s they added 60 to 80 horses... Now they have much better injection.
I agree, I'm not a fan of either of the colors but these are the types of builds that people are doing now because the economy is in the shitter and anything that helps people save money is what they are doing. I just started working on my next project, which is a 76 El Camino and While I'm not going with the factory paint job because "medium Saddle and Cream Gold 2 tone, I am using one of the factory colors and that's the Medium Saddle, I actually kinda like the color and I only have to gap a couple inches of the door seal plus the interior is already tan and in decent condition, I'm going to take the bench seat out and put the buckets out a mid 80's S10 that my buddy has that are already tan and were recovered 10-12 years ago, the dash is trashed but I'm just going to put a dash cap over it but I'm going to take the interior out it and paint it all at the same time. I started out with an all in budget 8k, I paid $3200 for the car and drove it home and other than just a good clean up on the engine and the car over all it doesn't need much to get it back in the shape that want to, The major expense is going to be wheels, I'm going to put the Snowflake wheels from the Grand Prix/trans Am of that era on it, because I absolute LOATHE the silver and chrome rally wheels, they look great on a 2nd gen Camaro or a C3 Vette but they look like absolute dogshit on a 4th Gen El Camino, the wheels are going to be almost 10% of the budget but it's worth it IMO.
Vacuums don't always work very well for picking up stuff like lint. The lint clings to the carpet too well, and a shop vac can't always get it. Tape or a lint roller will get it for sure.
I really like this truck my only problem with it is if l redid the inside of it l would have redid it in all dark graphite gray including seats trim and dash it's a very nice truck regardless just not big on that very light gray interior these are the last Chevy trucks with real bumpers
i was thinking on the import side you see a lot of people building 4cyls.. on domestic people do LS or V8 Swaps ... but there are a lot of V6 cars out there and I was thinking shouldn't you be able to get some reasonable HP out of them? problem is not a ton of parts in comparison to 4cyl and 8cyl engines.. would be interesting to hear all about that option because in my state I can't do a V8 swap on a V6 they won't let you due to emissions but heads, turbo, whatever might be an interesting thing for some people to do in their driveway or garage and maybe double their HP and make their vehicle more viable
you have emissions restrictions that won't allow you to swap in a V8 in place of a V6 (even from the same class of vehicle), but you're allowed to turbo it? what state?
Most of the sbc centrifugal supercharger parts/ turbo and parts like that fit on the 4.3 v6 so do the rods and pistons some make good power or you can do a honda j series
@@totensiebush I would rather not identify my state but I am in the midatlantic states.. yes correct.. you can not swap in an engine that the car wasn't sold with .. so you can't do an LS swap into a car that didn't come with one.. you can't even change out a smaller cubic inch engine small block for a larger one. like in the 80's 90's they shipped with 305/307 but you couldn't swap a 350 into the car... if your honda came with a 1.5 you can't drop a 2.0 in it... and its state inspection so its not like you can find a shop to pass you. The only way you could possibly do it is if the vehicle was produced before 1967 or if you had a special registration designation... which you aren't going to get for your newer vehicles and it would limit your use of the vehicle.
@@zippythechicken interesting, California is nowhere near as bad as that. for an engine swap you need to take it to a referee to get it inspected, but as long as the engine is out of the same class of vehicle, no older than the vehicle, and retains all of it's emissions equipment, nothing else matters: if you wanted to LS swap your Geo Metro and could keep all the smog stuff off your Camaro (another passenger car - truck engine wouldn't be ok), it could be made legal. In comparison, even the wrong cold air intake will make you fail smog. There are CARB legal performance parts but most stuff isn't. Similarly, for us 1975 and older isn't tested - in theory you aren't allowed to modify older vehicles, a friend even got a smog ticket in his 1973 Porsche 914 (it was running very poorly), in practice there's never inspection so everyone does. I really wish they just did a sniffer test (maybe make sure PCV and evap is there too), meaning what matters, but that isn't it.
@Zippy TheChicken Pretty sure at 25 years, they are exempt from emissions testing,so I would believe it wouldn't matter after that point. That doesn't apply here in Virginia though.State laws say absolutely no modifications are legal. You can't even change your body cladding.
The idea of slamming a cam in without lifters seems dumb to me. I understand it's a roller, so it should be "ok." However, you may as well rip the heads off and replace the lifters, especially considering how much work they have done to this pickup.
Why not use new lifters? Or did u just not want to pull the heads? Seems you would want to being a junk yard motor and the stock lifters are known to tick!
A piece of tape for a lint roller?!?! Man y’all got equipment In the shop that cost $30k you better break out the damn shop vac!!! Man come on Bro we like watching yall work but we ain’t dummies 🥴🥴🥴

Just secure the harness, you won't need it. You'll need to wire in the clutch pedal safety switch, in order to get it to start. You can just block off the trans cooler ports, at the radiator.
Watch the full engine refresh: th-cam.com/video/lAJ0GjIuzDs/w-d-xo.html
The seat hole trick was worth watching. I would have replaced the old speakers and tinted the windows while I was at it.
Love the old rushy bolts being reused.
Like a wire brush would be crazy talk!!😂
agreed
I saw that and was like "Oh...just put that old rust on the fresh carpet"
Whatever you do, don't clean under anything before you replace it.
You've been watching Scott over at Vehcor.
All that interior work and didn't bother to clean up the rusty seat frames.
Yeah that rust removal would of added at least 15hp
Yeah that's what I said
I'll take the seats over the junky ass cam shaft they put in it
Deadlines people....deadlines 😉

Obviously it’s not much cam, they didn’t even mention tuning it 🤷🏻♂️
Probably an RV style torque cam 🙄
7:12 Not sure if they used some kind of backwards method to advance the cam, but the timing mark on the cam gear is about 1.5 - 2 teeth off center when installed. That might be an issue later on…
That first start was in ?😮

So that interior was dilapidated ?
Never ever seen those plastic sill plates unbroken in at least one place
Nice hack for making the holes 🤟🏻. I learned something new today, thanks 🙏🏼
trick not hack
👌🍻 much better than a new truck

Cleeean truck! Looks like it just left the showroom after all that's been done to it!
Let’s see more of the faux guy build!!!
Before and after chassis dyno numbers would have been cool.
350chp/300whp before
375chp/320whp after…could’ve made 410chp/350whp with a BTR Truck Norris👌🏼
Hey just wondering, at 7:12 looks like the timing is off, compared to the shot where it was removed.. 4:50 What gives..?? Curious..?
These are the kinds of upgrades I would do. Thanks for the vid!
GOOD WORK YALL.
With that OTC Cylinder Leak Tester tool, how much pressure would you put in the cylinder to keep the valves closed? 15psi?

If it was a flat tappet cam, I’d certainly replace both at the same time. With a roller, nah.
that's the norm on an LS, and fine on a roller SBC too. if it was flat tappet, it would be a different story.
Get better door bushings from Cunningham Machine. Well worth the money.

Vacuums don't always work very well for picking up stuff like lint. The lint clings to the carpet too well, and a shop vac can't always get it. Tape or a lint roller will get it for sure.
Great Video. What is the manufacture cam number? Can you share the make of the very short impact. I think it's red in color.
Where can we get after market Steering wheels for our late market trucks??? (besides the Dealer)
do yall have a video of a stock 350 vortec and yall upgrading it?
Nice truck coming along 👍🏾
Sh.t fire I wish my interior looked good as that old stuff
Watching the spring swap made my back hurt😅
Great video!!
Why wouldn't you film more exhaust clips at idle and when it's warmed up and driving so that people can actually hear what it sounds like?
Probably because they didn't actually change anything

And this is why I prefer a Chevy over a Ford any day
Grill, bumper, and interior is worn out/beaten up. Their version of work out and mine are very different.
Would it ever be for sale?
why not do all the cam work when the motor was out of the truck?
The way to lift the OG bumper compare to the aftermarket, quality is different
I would have overlaid the old carpet under the new carpet vise versa like and just sharpie, marker, paint stick or even just cut the holes. Template
