I'm playing the game in VirtualBox which is running Windows XP with the ISO file. The game will only run if you are in standard resolutions. If you set your Windows XP screen size to something like 1280x720, it works great for SimSafari, but for SimPark you need to go back to a standard 4:3 resolution.
#AbandonwareAdventures is a format where I find a good old game that is no longer for sale and play some of it. These are often PC games from my earlier years that have been abandoned and I think need to be looked at again. Although that's the definition, if you can't buy a game from any legitimate source I'll count it as #abandonware.

The sound effects of this game are so recognizable. What a great nostalgia trip!
Back in the 90s games always used sounds from the same sound effects packs, so now they're all iconic sounds haha. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good review! Thanks for doing the game justice. It was definitely marketed as an educational game in the U.S. (I’m pretty sure I got it at the Discovery Channel store at the mall). I too learned so much about fauna and flora from this game and I still think about it 25 years later.
Glad you enjoyed it! I still think this is a nice chill game to play today. SimSafari has more advanced mechanics but I find this more relaxing.
For some reason, I never ended up playing SimSafari. I had all the Maxis games prior to that. I just remember eventually figuring out how to earn the carousel in this game, and it feeling like biggest accomplishment. Simpler times, as they say!!
My sister was sadistic with this game.
I found a file named "Die little children die die" where she had all the kid stuff on an island full of flammable plants. Then she lit fires.

I did something similar in Sim Theme Park. I named a park "Butthead," and then made a roller coaster that emptied into a closed off section of the park. Whether or not I had toilets in there, I don't really remember. About 2 hours later, I got bored and demolished the boundaries. The exodus had begun, and overall happiness went up in the park.
I loved this game as a kid and played it for hours... for many years! I've tried to find this for Mac but haven't succeeded yet.. I think I would still play this if I had it :D
What's best, it ran without the CD! You could just borrow it from the library and after installing it was all yours. Perfect game for the little green hippie that I already was in the third grade. They even dubbed it in Finnish and the frog was called Risto :D
while I was watching this, a bird chirped in the game and now my formerly sleeping cat is running around my house frantically looking for the source. best. such a great game from my childhood.
It is a really fun game. SimSafari the sequel even kind of holds up today.
Mwahahahas were the best thing on this. They were like an invasive weed that took over the park.

I remember that 7 year old me's favourite activity in SimPark was putting a slide that leads to a trapped space, and watching a bunch of people be stuck buying my sausages.
I first played this game when I was 3 and it was one of the first games I ever played, so watching this just makes me miss the game. I loved that game

awww Memorys. Maxis one of the many games they put out in like what was it a 6 month time frame. i cant rember have to google that later. back when Maxis was in its prime and the Father of Simulation games. i do miss that company. and sometimes i wander where what Will Wright is up too.

Now about the interface thing - it is easier with today's software tools, to make fixed size UI, instead of making one, that scales. It takes actually a lot of time and testing to make sure everything scales properly. At the end of the day, the companies have limited resources to complete a game, and they rather spend them on shiny steaming armpits and testicle physics, than actual functional responsible features, such as scalable UI... Because there is no proof at all, that gameplay and functionality are more important than visuals cough minecraft awkward cough...

Hi Zakh! I don't know if you're still answering comments such an old video, but if you are, I have a question. I downloaded this game and got it working, but I noticed my download does not contain the tutorial or the introduction video to the game that shows you your boss lady. Do you know how to fix that?
Hey! It's hard to say with old games like this. It could be your version doesn't have it, or that the videos are having codec issues, or the source of the video is missing or corrupt.

i never play this game, (and a lot in abandoware list) so i dont have the nostalgia feeling, therefore these games are just bad graphs with old concepts and gameplay for me ,,, but still, i will watch everything just because i like u as a youtuber and u make worth it watching
Thank you! Glad you're still enjoying the videos! What you can look at is how games have changed since back then. A lot of the new mechanics in games today originally started back in the 90s and I find it interesting to see where they came from.
Seems I have found my reason for booting up my windows XP machine. (it's a smaller box too). It won't run on my win 7 64 bit machine without some type of emulator.
Yeah Windows can only ever go one step down on bit, so 16bit games need XP basically.

I can't remember what I said? I do consider Rizzo to be one of the most annoying characters in gaming though haha. If I was saying this game isn't childish, I would've meant everything besides him. This is no SimTown.
How do we Install this on Windows 10?
I haven't tested it recently but I couldn't get it to work before. Problem is Windows often can only run 1 step down for bit, so since Windws 10 is 64bit it tends to only be able to run 32bit stabilly. In this video I got an emulator to run Windows XP, but I'll try again and see if I can get it working on Windows 10 somehow.

Not sure if I missed it or just didn't come up, but the constant email for lacking biodiversity or using too much of the same thing haunts me to this day: "Variety is the spice of life you know."
I had this game when i was little (pretty sure i asked for the sims lol) and i never understood what i was doing bc i didn't speak english and it always randomly caught fire

It's still fun, unfortunately yeah, you need at least a Windows XP virtual machine or old PC to play it. I couldn't get it working in Windows 10.

Wow....I remember playing this as a kid on my old school PC. Loved it! Then the fires came and burnt the whole place down lol
It's still pretty fun today too, SimSafari is a more developed game but this does have its charm.
Jeez I played this all the time when I was like 11, it was a great game!!
Yeah and it's still pretty fun today! The responsive interface makes it look great in widescreen. SimSafari is definitely a step up on the genre though.
