I worked 26 yeras in an old-fashioned department store and I can vouch for just how accurate a description of life there Grace Brothers was. It was a world of its own. I could have moved elsewhere for more money but I loved the atmosphere. Now these businesses are almost all gone. Which is a shame.
Another Greg here, same. Seen each episode at least a dozen times and I know EXACTLY the punch-line and still I giggle. (Mrs. Slocombe to Miss Brahms as a large busted woman approaches the counter) "bring out the Kilimanjaro line Miss Brahms".
Well I'm shocked. You can actually see the characters cracking up in the aired version. I thought they broadcast everything. Who knew there was out-takes. My favourite show ever. Brilliance.
Such a treat! Thanks for sharing. My all-time favourite show. I never get tired of them, and often enjoy an episode if I'm feeling blue. John Inman and Mollie Sugden were two of the funniest people ever, and the rest of the cast was truly stellar.
Frank Thornton is the only one that sounds and looks completely different from his character, Captain Peacock. The rest of them all sound the same so it’s like they playing themselves. Thanks for this. Please load more!
brilliant footage, wish there was more like this. ive been watching the repeats on bbc2 and it reminded me how class this show is. thanks for uploading.
Is it odd that I watched this show all the time when I was five in 1990, being an American as well? Lol. My grandma had all these taped and we watched them well into my teens
Meha Murmurs I think it's great you find it funny and the humour travels so well. Sometimes English humour isn't seen as funny in the States. And the fact you find it funny still means the writing and actors were really great.
@@Useaname yeah this show was aired in the States on PBS in the 80's which I saw as a child and then again about 20 years later where I rewatched it. PBS introduced Americans to a lot of British TV over the last forty years or so.
Quite a few comments here dwelling on the actors being dead. So they're dead, everyone dies. Focus instead on the fact that they left a super legacy of comedy with this delightful series; it's silly to boo-hoo about them not being with us anymore.
@@dickiegreenleaf750 It is odd. I can understand if it's a comment about an actor or celebrity who very recently passed away; I posted a comment about Jessica Walter the day she died, under a clip from Arrested Development. But making a comment years after a cast member passed on ... I don't get it. Might be a generational thing. I'm 55. Oh, well.
You have to understand, you see these people on your TV and you assume they’re still alive. I do that because even shows from the 60’s I look at these people like they’re still with us. Death is still a concept us humans can’t grasp sometimes.
@@varrick1226 I'd never assume that actors on TV are still alive today if they look 50 years old on an episode from 1975. Their age would be 96 now. Sorry, I don't share that point of view; I don't watch Bewitched and look at Paul Lynde like he's still alive. No disrespect, just completely different mind-set here.
You said it. I remember when beloved cast members would appear live for the local PBS station's (WHYY Channel 12 Wilmington/Philadelphia) annual funding drives. That's how I became an admirer of Are You Being Served? and The Red Shoes (1948). Those were the days alright; would've been the late-'80s and very early-'90s.
Thanks very much, i'll try and find some more things like that. Although are you being served was filmed a long time ago its very hard to find footage but i'll keep trying :)
This would have been the technical run through prior to the evening recording in front of a studio audience, most probably in Studio 8 at the BBC Television Centre. TC8 was a preferred studio for situation comedies at the BBC. The studio no longer exists as it was demolished in the redevelopment of TV Centre. Hi-de-hi, Open All Hours, Porridge, Morecambe and Wise, ‘Allo ‘Allo, and the Two Ronnies were some of the other programmes recorded in TC8.
I know just what you mean. Everything just clicked with this series - it's my favorite British sitcom and probably would be in my top five favorite sitcoms of all time.
All great fun at the time, never got a chance to see the shows, liked the way it was in good humorous times from times gone by, not many cast members left now, wonder whether they’ll do a remake of this fine series?.
🎹 This has got to be my all time favorites sitcom. And if you listen to this interview You will notice that the Real Life personalities, voices and mannerisms of the cast members are identical to the characters they Play in the series. Quite interesting. They're not really acting, but just being themselves.
WOW!! THAT WAS AMAZING. I have NEVER seen a behind the scenes of Are You Being Served? This was the episode where Mrs Slocum "loses" her memory. What year was this filmed?
+Classictv90s Yes, the set had to be put up overnight and taken down again for the 6 weeks it was on, after the first series a lot of the clothes went missing so they used pre-damaged seconds for future episodes .
This sounds foolish, one reason why I have never told anyone this, but when I was in the Navy in the 1980s and stationed in Bermuda I was too intimidated by the prospect of running into a stuffy/snobby Captain Peacock type floor walker to ever visit a large department store in Hamilton.
True but on the other hand most of them lived long and happy lives working in television and theatre, well into their seventies and eighties. Frank Thornton was 92 when he passed away, in fact.
Thanks very much, i'll try and find some more things like that. Although are you being served was filmed a long time ago its very hard to find footage but i'll keep trying :)

I NEVER get tired of this show, no matter how many times I watch it
Likewise.
I concur. If there's an upper limit to how many times I can watch Are You Being Served? I haven't found it yet.
Same here 🙂😃👍
Another Greg here, same. Seen each episode at least a dozen times and I know EXACTLY the punch-line and still I giggle.

"bring out the Kilimanjaro line Miss Brahms".
Its the only reason i bought Britbox.
I love the show and still watching it in 2023!
Nice to see that wonderful footage of them. One of my favorite British comedies. And I am unanimous in that.
Well I'm shocked. You can actually see the characters cracking up in the aired version. I thought they broadcast everything. Who knew there was out-takes. My favourite show ever. Brilliance.
Yes, unfortunately all the main stars have left us. I take it that being unaware of out-takes is a joke ??
I'm glad you enjoyed my video. I've been searching for more footage like this, but no look so far, but if I find anymore i'll upload

Some may have remained in character for the interview. Wendy Richard normally didn't have that thick Cockney accent.
I have watched these episodes since the early 1980s here in the USA and I still NEVER tire of them. They are like best friends.
Amen to that !!
Thank You for Posting!
LOVE AYBS! Watched every Saturday on Public Broadcasting in the States, Brilliant!
I totally agree !! Our local PBS station showed AYBS episodes for close to 20 years !! So many wonderful memories !! :-)

did you have an aquarium near by your television when you videotaped this?
@Ed Miller that wasn't called for!
People who don't get this comment doesn't have a good sense of humor.
Ed Miller you should learn some manners and enlighten yourself

they are like family watching this

Thanks for posting !! I still love this show .
Brilliant to see this. Great series
interview with a young Wendy Richard....made my heart skip a beat :D thanx for the upload!
She was so lovely. She had great comic timing (as did all of them).
Thx. Never knew this existed!🤗
Sorry the video was bad quality and yep AYBS was epic
I believe the only regular cast member still with us is Nicholas Smith - Mr Rumbold.
+jrgboy He sadly died on December 5th, there all gone now i'm afraid :(
jrgboy now only mr spooner is alive . Rest all gone now .
@@MrShedinthepeg RIP...each one of these brilliant actors

I like the fact they all seem to get on. I think that comes across when you're watching the programme.
Good stuff kylie, loved this show growing up here in Australia, so funny,
I turned 10 years old when this aired. LOL Yes, I'm old. :-P
you may be old but are you free ?
Gorgeous!
Where are the outtakes~?
Much appreciated Kyle!

I`m watching it now :)
Trevor Bannister (Mr Dick Lucas) was my favourite character in Are You Being Served
WOW!! THAT WAS AMAZING. I have NEVER seen a behind the scenes of Are You Being Served? This was the episode where Mrs Slocum "loses" her memory. What year was this filmed?
great stuff...thanky from all of us Servaholics
Thanks for posting this. Just wondering, is there a way you could digitize the video directly instead of filming it off your TV set?
Was this filmed underwater?
what does the audio sound like it was recorded inside of a fish tank, with the air pump
running at full speed? 😒
I'd be worried about your drains if I were you! :)
Hahahaha yes true, did you like the video?
This is awesome and I totally love this show......quality is a bit bleh! :P
Outtakes ?
more please!
Was Are You Being Served recorded at BBC Television Centre?
+Classictv90s Yes, the set had to be put up overnight and taken down again for the 6 weeks it was on, after the first series a lot of the clothes went missing so they used pre-damaged seconds for future episodes .
Very interesting piece of information in your reply jrgboy.
I suspected they used a laugh track, now I have proof!
Whoa...even my black cat was like "that's the devil''s music". In fact Ed was very concerned. Very concerned.
Creepy
These aren't outtakes, this is a behind the scenes interview which is probably why this video has downvotes.
Trevor Bannister was the star of the show, in my opinion.🙂
Molly aka mrs slocomb, is pretty here.
This sounds foolish, one reason why I have never told anyone this, but when I was in the Navy in the 1980s and stationed in Bermuda I was too intimidated by the prospect of running into a stuffy/snobby Captain Peacock type floor walker to ever visit a large department store in Hamilton.
Funny
Poor sound.
It sounds like an aquarium or a leaky water closet in the background!
The sound SUCKS! ☹️
All dead how sad
Ian Dennis Mr. Spooner is still alive, but most if not all of the original cast are gone.
True but on the other hand most of them lived long and happy lives working in television and theatre, well into their seventies and eighties. Frank Thornton was 92 when he passed away, in fact.
The original is at v=f8ahcOM5dmU
Poor resolution.
clickbait. no outtakes. just behind the scenes filming.
Everything they did was laugh out loud. They don't make em line they used to !!!!
Comedy is now dead at BBC etc. Its all woke boring nonsense now
Poor quality video
It’s better than nothing at all tho. I still enjoyed watching it.
I stopped watching g. Its not outtakes. Its a badly filmed inter view
Terrible quality.
I watched this all the time, when i was younger.
But now, a older person, my humor as changed & i find the program pure CRAP now, lol
Thanks very much, i'll try and find some more things like that. Although are you being served was filmed a long time ago its very hard to find footage but i'll keep trying :)
