When you need something to look like lightning up, you need a white base. All light in nature have a white shine in the middle because all colors are actually just white with different reflections. a red neon light in example is white in the center, yellow around and red only as the last shine.

I think having a background layer adds a tremendous amount of depth, realism, and life to your work. I always thought thats why you worked in layers. 17:28 The birds on the tree infront of the light ray are my favorite motiv. IDK why but its this nice contrast to the dark and mysthical forest around and the swarm of birds in the background. They look relaxed and happy to me. They have done theire work for day and have come to rest in this slowly awaking magical forest, whlie the rest. Absolute fantastic job over all. I primarily do digital art but every time I watch Martina work I learn something even I can use. I don't know why I never thought to use the airbrush over white for a true glowy effect. I just tried it on something I'm working on and it came out so good T_T

Magical! I never noticed this before, but when looking from the far left vantage point (where the mural wraps around the outside corner), it actually looks like you can see behind and through the waterfall. So clever!
That effect done traditionally is absolutely beautiful. Its like glowing embers and I can't believe it could be done with an airbrush. You are an amazing artist and the whole mural is beautiful. Makes me wish I owned my home to be able to paint one on my wall
Martina: “Look at the size of this! This is huge!” Next video: Martina: “We are painting a mural on the Burj Kali!fa!” I can relate on painting in layers and covering over other things you painted in it. Layering provides a continuity. If you have a tree or road, you do not have to fret about the lines following correctly. I find pen and ink challenging for that. You are working with everything together at once and I often draw on tracing paper different elements to move and get the movement and negative space correctly.
I'd love to see an art walk-through series where you take us through your process of painting on a how-to level. Like here is how I start an animal, how I decide where to add or subtract, and how I know I need a redo, etc. You are so good with form and light I wish I can one day be half as good as you
Can I just say that everytime I see one of your videos it makes me smile, I usually see such meticulous thought out art videos, and as someone who only has like, a plan as I'm going along when creating, it's wonderful to watch you create as you go along. This is so beautiful, I have no words but I want it. I've only watched a few other videos of yours (books, a book nook) but you keep surprising me with just the breadth of your creativity. Some people draw/paint. Some people make models and dioramas. Some people work with leather. You have all of those things and probably more that I just haven't seen. It's hard not to be jealous of your talent, but I know it's required thousands of hours of honing, and I'm happy for you.
I love it, it looks like a dream! But what I love most is that Martina's head is almost invisible from one side in front of the mural, because hair and wall color match perfectly!
Small question: are you using like, something to cover the acrylics, some varnish or something?? How long do acrylics last on walls? Do they discolor with the sunlight?? I have so many questions o.o Cuz I wanna paint a mural in my new bedroom but I dunno what kind of paints I should use or how I should approach the medium on the walls
You can use either acrylics or oil paint. I used both on my mirror. I suggest using acrylics, since they dry a lot faster. I don't think you need to use a primer or finishing varnish for the wall but you should look it up just in case.
I think Martina has an addiction for finding larger and larger things to use as a canvas 😛 Next collab: I painted a climbing wall with Magnus Midtbø! 😁

When you started freehanding the wildlife i really got overwhelmed. It was like you told the story of the painting, well edited! =) And it goes without saying that you're an amazing artist! :)

STUNNING! this is the perfect piece to just live in the background of a space. It takes your breath away the first time you see it, but I am sure one you spend hours with it, it becomes a source of calm and inspiration. I would love to be able to look up from a tough project and just get lost for a moment enjoying the whimsy and beauty of it.

Magical! I never noticed this before, but when looking from the far left vantage point (where the mural wraps around the outside corner), it actually looks like you can see behind and through the waterfall. So clever!
That effect done traditionally is absolutely beautiful. Its like glowing embers and I can't believe it could be done with an airbrush. You are an amazing artist and the whole mural is beautiful. Makes me wish I owned my home to be able to paint one on my wall

I can relate on painting in layers and covering over other things you painted in it. Layering provides a continuity. If you have a tree or road, you do not have to fret about the lines following correctly. I find pen and ink challenging for that. You are working with everything together at once and I often draw on tracing paper different elements to move and get the movement and negative space correctly.

I'd love to see an art walk-through series where you take us through your process of painting on a how-to level. Like here is how I start an animal, how I decide where to add or subtract, and how I know I need a redo, etc. You are so good with form and light I wish I can one day be half as good as you

(And Hansi) I get stuck SO many times on my paintings because I keep overthinking things, and adding things, and it still always feels it’s missing something and I am definitely going to add more fantasy element to my work 😍 I grew up on Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, etc. (I’m an 80’s baby!) and I love how you just go for it! This is so beautiful, I have no words but I want it. I've only watched a few other videos of yours (books, a book nook) but you keep surprising me with just the breadth of your creativity. Some people draw/paint. Some people make models and dioramas. Some people work with leather. You have all of those things and probably more that I just haven't seen. It's hard not to be jealous of your talent, but I know it's required thousands of hours of honing, and I'm happy for you.
I love it, it looks like a dream! But what I love most is that Martina's head is almost invisible from one side in front of the mural, because hair and wall color match perfectly!
Small question: are you using like, something to cover the acrylics, some varnish or something?? How long do acrylics last on walls? Do they discolor with the sunlight?? I have so many questions o.o Cuz I wanna paint a mural in my new bedroom but I dunno what kind of paints I should use or how I should approach the medium on the walls
You can use either acrylics or oil paint. I used both on my mirror. I suggest using acrylics, since they dry a lot faster. I don't think you need to use a primer or finishing varnish for the wall but you should look it up just in case.
I'm a little surprised you're allowed to paint walls in your rental but i'm SO glad you could it DEFINITELY looks magical!!

When you started freehanding the wildlife i really got overwhelmed. It was like you told the story of the painting, well edited! =) And it goes without saying that you're an amazing artist! :)
So delicate and well done, may be not recent but the harmony of colors and the idea is fantastic. Btw she's correct, when you create something like that, on a big scale, you always look for the next thing, that tiny detail which will make the piece have a deeper meaning. Loved it.
