  • Hey! Welcome to HOWZA channel! In today's tutorial, we will teach you how to lock and protect the Header and footer in Microsoft Word.
    Open Microsoft Word.
If you already have the header and the footer, you can skip this step. Go to Design tab at the top panel. Click on Header. Select the one you like and add the header text. Click on Footer. Select the one you like and add the footer text.
Now, to the fun part. Go to Review tab at the top panel. Click on Restrict Editing at the right-side of the screen.
You will see the tools panel open. Check option number one - Limit formatting to a selection of style.
Check option number two - Allow only this type of editing in the document. Select No changes from the drop-out list below.
You can add exceptions. Select the part of the text that can be edited. Check Everyone under Exceptions block.
Go to block number three. Click on Yes, Start Enforcing Protection. Create the password to protect the document. Reenter the password. Click Ok.
If you want to stop the protection, click on Stop protecting at the right-side panel. Enter the password in the new window and click Ok.

What Word 2010 settings need to change if double-clicking does NOT open the header or footer anymore?
It's always worked for YEARS. Suddenly, I cannot open the header/footer this way anymore.
