- Korra and Jinora Venture into the strange and scary place that is the spirit realm, and things get WILD from the start! With many callbacks to Avatar, including our favorite Uncle Iroh, this episode was intriguing on many levels, and TERRIFYING on many others. We enjoyed every minute, and are excited to see what happens next!
Book 2, Chapter 11, "Night of a Thousand Stars" will premiere this Sunday, 2/7 at 12 pm est!

If Korra had a nickel for every time she was swallowed by a giant aquatic spirit that transported her into a place where she would find spiritual guidance she would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

Fun fact : In Chinese culture, dragon phoenix bird is considered as incorruptible being. That's why in this episode dragon phoenix didn't become dark and was able to save Korra
I've never heard of a dragon phoenix bird in Chinese mythology. Its probably just the writers combining a dragon and Chinese phoenix together like they do for many animals. Together, the dragon and the phoenix symbolize a unity of yin and yang. Since this whole season kind of revolves around balancing light and dark, I think the writers are trying to imply the dragon phoenix is already perfectly balanced, being immune to corruption.

"Your emotions become your reality" hence why Korra was a child during most of the episode. She was so uncertain and didn't know anything about the Spirit World much like a child.
Iroh appeared in only a couple of minutes and provided us with a million life lessons

It breaks my heart EVERY TIME when Tenzin says “what happened to my little girl?”
It hits especially hard after you see his struggles trying to get in, and his worry about sending Jinora.

It's kinda weird since that wisdom isn't really true; look at Zuko, Darth Vader, Abby from Last of Us II. All people who had done horrible things and chose darkness and anger so many times. Yet they all eventually found redemption, light and a measure of peace. Or maybe I am just reading this wrong and Iroh means it a bit different. What do you think?
@@MeesdeFilmliefhebber I think he meant even if you follow the darkness you will eventually find light but if you look for the dark it will be hard to see light but idk
@@MeesdeFilmliefhebber It basically means if you focus on your misfortune, sadness, anger or fear, it's easy to become overwhelmed by it. Which does happen to the characters in the Last of Us. It doesn't mean you're hopeless or have no chance of redemption. It just means allowing yourself to be ruled by negative emotions will cause greater pain down the road. There's always hope, no matter how dire things may seem.
Fun fact: the episode where we went to Wan Shi tongs spirit library in ATLA was book 2 episode 10, and in this episode we revisit the library and it's also book 2 episode 10.

Why Korra looks like a child in spiritual world? Iroh answered this question: in the spiritual world, yours feelings is your reality
Probably her feelings of helplessness, confusion, and feeling overwhelmed put her mentally in a child-like state, thus the child-like manifestation of her spirit.
Imagine Zuko going to the spirit world and seeing iroh there and they start hugging sense Zuko hasn’t seen iroh sense he died and didn’t think he would ever see him again😫

Even after death, Iroh will always will making tea and give great advice.
Technically he didn’t die he just left his body because he thought that there was nothing left for him to do in the physical world.

Honestly, we did NOT get enough little Korra. She's the BEST 🥰
Fun Facts: Little Korra was voiced by the same girl that voiced her in the first episode of the first season/book. The actress's name, Cora, sounds the same as the character name. She is the daughter of Dee Bradley Baker who voices all the animals, Tarrlok, and of course all the clone troopers in Clone Wars and Bad Batch.
Love how Montana smiles whenever Iroh talk, she looks so peaceful and like it's just warming her heart 😂
Fun fact: this is season 2 ep 10 where the library is seen but what most fans never realize is that the library also appeared in season 2 ep 10 in the original series

The young sage who discovers Korra on the beach and takes her to the Bhanti Tribe shaman where she learns about Wan and Raava is played by the same person as the one who played Ming the Prison Keeper who was very kind to Iroh. The person who played those characters is Serena Williams. Yes, the tennis legend. Serena Williams.

When I'm at my lowest moments, I can be very self deprecating, so if I could ask Iroh anything, I'd ask if there was ever a time in his life where he didn't like who he was and what he did to overcome it

I think the "positive energy calms the spirits/negative energy upsets the spirits" holds true as well with how we approach the animals. I learned it when we were taming our adopted doggo, that we should not show that we're afraid to pet her otherwise she won't let us

let me just say, even tho i'm here since it was just clips of Montana watching avatar, i think i have never said how nice is the counters. It's like something unique that i have never see someone else do and the different categories like genius counter, prediction counter, tearbending counter, etc. Just makes it so much fun. My guy Iroh decided instead of letting his soul move on to the next plane/possible afterlife, abandoned his body in the physical world when he died, to go eternally live in the Spirit World.
People reincarnate in Avatar so he broke out of the cycle of life and death and achieved Nirvana/Enlightenment.
Not an expert in Hinduism/Taoism/etc but I think it's a reference to that.

I feel like it's kinda like saying that if we hold good stuff inside, what comes out of us (words and actions, I guess) does have that "flavor" in it too.
Considering how much Iroh loves tea, I feel like a metaphor like that coming from him is so "on-brand" for the writers to not use it.

One of the reasons I think Korra looked the way she did in this episode was because when Iroh said "The people who have been coming to the spirit world lately have brought darkness and anger so that is what you see now, but you have light and peace inside of you, if you let it out you can change the world around you" He is saying this to baby Korra and if you think about it the writers prolly put this sentence in to show that every kid has light and peace inside them tbh can really change the world around them if they tried. Idk if you guys can understand what I'm trying to say lmao.

I'm thinking in this avatar universe that everyone who dies, have their body permanently die while their soul may either trascend to another life reincarnation or live with the spirits and be a spirit without the power of your body. The whole universe is an eternal life cycle that grows and prosper over time.

I like how hes in earth bender atire meaning he kept up his tea shop in the earth kingdom have taking back ba sing sae. And just lived out his life away from the fire nation.
Fun fact, because the world was at war in Aang time the spirit world was so creepy and scary. In Korra's time the world was at peace so the spirit world was also beautiful and peaceful. The dark forest where Korra ends up is the spirit worlds reaction to the Civil War from the watertribes.
