    You are very articulate which makes it easy to follow your demo paintings. This is a lovely painting with enough looseness to allow the viewers imagination to be engaged but enough control to hold the composition together and to express your vision. A tricky blend and it works so well. Thank you.

    Love your painting style- very pleasing compositions and colors. Love love love the broken color technique like your paintings. Broken color gives the eye so much more to take in and concider, and adds dynamic movement through the painting as the eye sees layer after layer of subject like trees, grass water etc. I've z,ways struggled trying to "render subjects" how I "think they are" instead of being loose and letting under-layers do much of the work of describing the subject. Nicely done!

    This is a beautiful painting, I really don't know anything about pastels, so do you apply a fixative to the painting to protect it?

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not. I use a light touch and frame behind glass. :)

    • @traekas7228

      I use Spectrafix which does not darken the colors, only when you first apply it. It dries and the bright colors return.

    That is an AMAZING painting, this is my first video of yours - can’t wait to watch the others! I have been doing watercolor for a few years but it feels like pastel is more “me” - do you have any supply lists or books you recommend to get started. I am not sure if I’ll be any good but I have sold a few dozen of my watercolors, so hopefully I have some potential in this medium.

    I love the way your mark making adds so much to your paintings. Your signature marks are incredible. Do you teach that?

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh thank you! I think mark making is so personal - truly like personal calligraphy! I find it "comes out" the more you practice. Thinking of your pastels as brushes (big ones, small ones, fat ones, skinny ones) and using different hardnesses of pastel have taught me a lot!

    • @Nazareth434
      @Nazareth434 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup- mark making is key- coloring not so much- filling in subjects needs to be done with layers and marks to give the subjects life. I struggle too with mark making, but watching other artists paint with marks is helping me get the knack of it

    Hello bethany, i recently started pastel painting and i must say that i am quite disappointed with the results. I cannot seem to get anything right. Its quite hard. I am on the brink of throwing away the pastels and even my dream of becoming a decent pastel artist. But i dont wanna do it. I love the medium and the whole feel of it. I just love the art that you create on ur channel and it is quite inspirational for me. I just want to be better enough to create such art. The reason i am here because i want to seek your guidance on it. I am a total newbie, if only you could just get me on track. I will highly appreciate it if u could maybe share some links for the lessons or anything else in particular which will help me with it. I am in dire need of it.
