***** Blacks call themselves that all the time but a white person says it and her career is ruined. Hypocrites!! If you don't like being called something then first stop calling yourselves that and maybe other people would follow!!
I felt really bad for Winona during all of that. So many people were saying things like that she's so spoiled and greedy to be that rich and still steal things. Obviously it wasn't about money. Some people turn to drugs and alcohol, for her it was shoplifting. Even rich and famous people aren't immune to going through rough times.
Blakeeeyyyy that's why I love being British. He can laugh at US presidents and UK prime ministers without a care in the world as our culture gets what satire is.
Why did they have to get hated on? All they said was that George W. Bush wasn't a good president which is actually true. Sooner or later the people who hated on the Dixie chicks for saying that are going to regret it.
Hayden Silbermann I still don't think that he deserved that severe of a punishment. I mean, everyone was doping bag then and if he (or anyone else) hadn't, there is no way he could've been able to win anything. And it's not like he did it all for himself, he had a good cause.
aDotFromTheFuture It wasn't the doping that destroyed Armstrong, people have more or less forgiven his rivals like Ulrich and Basso. It was the trail of destruction he left, the lawsuits, the broken promises, the careers he ended, the public insults, the bribing officials, the intimidation campaigns. When the other guys got caught they mostly took their bans and apologised, Armstrong attcked anyone and everyone and that's why when he finally had no way to hide it anymore he's become so hated.

Lol you saying: if there is a racist word that blue people say to purple people, it should be ok for the blue people to keep using the insulting word because the hood, slang purple people use it sparingly. Not sure if you understand that as you white people are stupid and really love to use racist words and have fights and argue on the internet to let then continue using the racist word they made lol

Shia LaBeouf It was NOT that the Dixie Chicks dissed President Bush - it was WHEN they dissed him!!!!!!! UNDER NO CONDITIONS do you diss - your commander in chief - on the eve of war!! PERIOD - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!! Technically - they could have been jailed or executed - traitors have been executed in the past - and dissing the president on the eve of war IS and act of treason - PERIOD - look it up!!!!!!!!!!! You can slam him all you want - Bush took it lightly - but you should NEVER - NEVER slam your leaders - on the eve of war!!!!!! There are no exceptions to this!!!! Wait a few days then bitch all you want - but NEVER bitch about your leaders - as troops are lining up to go to war - and quite possibly - their own deaths!!!!!!!!!
Jeff Schwartz I don't know if you're that stupid or the law is that stupid, but people definitely should not be jailed or executed for sharing their opinions... otherwise half of the people on all sorts of media should be jailed or executed. It does not matter if it's the brink of war or whatever... Jailing people that do not share the same opinions as the ruler is called tyranny. Rather, I'd argue that it's even more important to share concerns, if you have some, before actual war happens.... Even presidents make mistakes, maybe some of those concerns could make them change their mind.
When The Dixie Chicks dissed George W. by claiming that they were embarrassed and ashamed for being from the same state as him, they were truly shocked by the hatred that American Country Music radio and fans released on them....BUT, they prevailed, winning so many Grammy Awards and keeping their true fans...HEY, TED NUGENT, WHERE ARE YOUR AWARDS????
If Ted said something outspoken like the Dixie Chicks did he would be scandal 2. But Ted's right and it must have been that time of the month for the Dixie Chicks
Ted Nugent hasn't gotten awards because of his having the wrong politics. But I do remember seeing all the Ted Nugent T-shirts in high school, and he still draws fans to his concerts.
I never heard from them before that happened and turned out I kinda liked their music. They didn't really loose fans, they shifted to a better fanbase.
Well if a musician came out against a Democrat like crazy ol' Ted Nugent they are ostracized and made into a villain. If you come out against a Republican you are made into a hero. So as a Republican I keep my mouth shut.
Why is the George W. Bush diss a scandal? I think I would react the same. Sorry for those who find this rude, but that's my opinion. And to be honest, I've seen worse comments on TH-cam, so don't go telling me off.
Well, if I want to tell you off, I will, but I actually don't want to. But seriously, being ashamed of being from the same state as someone you don't like? Who cares? You might also be from the same state as someone you think is really cool.
Wow this is the first time I actually heard what she said. I remember when I heard the news she was quoted as saying she was ashamed of being American and that America sucks! It didn’t say anything about Texas or George w. If it had been real news I would have agreed with what she said but at the time and the fake news I got I thought she was pretty messed up for saying that
They called him an insult to the state of texas, and essentially spoke for the entirety of the U.S. to another country about being ashamed of his presidency. But that wasn't necssarily how everyone felt about Bush. It wasn't ok, I'm not calling the band right for saying that. What I'm saying is that a lot of prominent individuals criticized Bush during his presidency, and I'm sure they did it in the public eye. So why were the dixie chix targeted specifically is my question. That's all. Maybe I did miss something.:)
Milo Terrabuca It is interesting...Many of those who attacked the Dixie Chicks for expressing their dislike of President Bush (the lesser) now cheer and clap like trained seals (the aquatic mammals not the soldiers) anytime someone disses President Obama...I guess it can be chalked up to country fans historically leaning towards the conservative side while remaining just as susceptible to hypocrisy as the rest of us...
TheGameChainJS Jezzas doing fine, the Clarkson, Hammond and May show was packed out as it could be when I went to see it and he is getting job offers out his ass. Perhaps he can go somewhere less stifiling that the BBC and say what he wants.
I think if the Dixie chicks had sung in another genre, Like if they were pop stars, their fan base wouldn't have suffered as much. I think a like of country fans have stricter views on politics
That Paula Deen scandal just pisses me off, because while rappers and comedians say these words all the time meanwhile Paula says the N word a few times, and gets fired!
The Sir (blasterblade) Using it in a serious situation is way different than using it in a joke or by someone that is black and has lived the racism that goes with that word.
The Sir (blasterblade) when she said it she meant it in a insulting way, when black people say it they dont mean it that way. thats why she was fired...
Why did everyone get so upset about the whole dixie chicks thing i mean green day could have said that and been fine but then again people expect that from green day
If there’s one thing unique to the 21st century it’s that a celebrities status no longer really protects them. Not sure but I get the feeling scandals were a lot easier to get away with in the 20th century.
in 2003 that was just when iraq started, so many people still bought the hyped patriotism that existed after 9/11. i for one cheered at the dixie chicks' bush line, and im not even into country music. in those days im glad someone with a media presence came out and said it among all the talking heads with their flag pins spindoctoring wmds and iraq had something to do with 9/11 and the average joes eating it up hook line and sinker.
Jeff the killer It's not like he needs it anyway. He's a director now mostly. He can star in his own freaking movies if he wants. I think he'll be just fine.
One of the worst things that can emotionally wreck a person is when they are near the top and take a big status drop and then they're nothing and no one likes them. Even if they totally deserve it them knowing that fact makes the hurt worse. This isn't just a fame thing, it's a human thing.
Milli Vanilli was ahead of the curve? It's one thing for a performer to lip sync themselves singing elsewhere, but Milli Vanilli were lip syncing homelier black men. Two attractive Carribean male dancers dancing around and lip syncing to two talented, yet unattractive black men. How much more poser can you get?
the dixie chick controversy was bs imo, its just at the time the american people were so full of rage against terrorism that everyone was supporting president bush to the last letter until we realized iraq was a lie
People need to chill out. Words are words. I think it's really dumb that white people can say something so minuscule about black people then when a black person generalizes the white race and spits on it the get cheered on.
The Dixie Chicks deserve respect from all of us for daring to question the motives of the people in charge despite the hysteria and fear that had gripped the country at the time.
I would say Ashlee Simpson's lip sync on SNL could have been brought up. Surprised Sinead O'Connor wasn't mentioned at all. While most people these days aren't familiar with it, Charlie Chaplin deserves to be mentioned when his appreciation of Socialism and ties to Communist groups (however small) ultimately drove him out of America, caused his visa to be revoked and almost entirely ended his career (though one could argue the advent of "talkies" had done a good share of damage).
Rose Gleek Yes and no. When you are a popular figure, like they were (probably still are), celebrity have to watch what they say and do. We can say what she said and no one, but maybe our community, wouldn't give a dam. We just be "another nobodies saying random things"
Rose Gleek What they said was not the issue. Plenty of celebrities, including other country musicians, were saying the same and worse. The issue was WHERE they said it. Had they said it at a concert in the US, it likely would have blown over and they would still be charting country hits.
AJ Ketchum Keep in mind about the context too. The US was still reeling from 9/11 with "terror risks" being issued every day on news stations across America. Anything seen as unpatriotic was considered to be very taboo.
Dj BearMetal I have to disagree. Case in point, Sheryl Crow was openly anti-war in 2002-03 and had a hit (Picture with Kid Rock) on the country charts at the same time as the Dixie Chicks comments. She did not lose her standing with Country fans. In fact she even won an award at the CMAs later in 2003. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill also made anti-Bush comments, yet never fell in the eyes of their fans. The LOCATION of their comments is the only difference.

Mel Gibson was in his career prime when it happened, Cosby was almost senile when it happened to him

@Troll Theory Oh yes, credit. I would settle for the general population to just be aware of the manipulations forced upon them. And thank goodness, a few more wake up every day. The Winona Ryder “scandal” was such bullshit. Yes, it was wrong, but I’d hardly label it as career ending. It was a Hollywood excuse to dump her since she was growing older. Glad she’s made a comeback
Agreed. shoplifting doesn't come CLOSE to some of the other behavior on here. N she's come back.
I wouldn’t say Winona Ryder’s career is finished she’s back in stranger things which re helped her career

Yah stranger things has definitely saved her career

also, all winona did was steal clothes. that's not too bad compared to others on the list😂
@George W. I'm pretty sure shoplifting is worse than shouting words.
Other horrible things were done such as saying a president was bad
Why is everyone over reacting over Paula Deen using the N-word? We all said it once to be honest
***** Because this is America, the land of people who are addicted to being offended and love to let you know it.
She apologized, and besides it was off-camera. There was NO reason for that info to have been made public. The fact that it did and the fact that it was a huge deal only proves my above point.
***** Blacks call themselves that all the time but a white person says it and her career is ruined. Hypocrites!! If you don't like being called something then first stop calling yourselves that and maybe other people would follow!!

I blame Food Fight for him going insane
no because hes winning and he can retire wheneved
+Seani Wu He is still acting genius
It's "winning"
I felt really bad for Winona during all of that. So many people were saying things like that she's so spoiled and greedy to be that rich and still steal things. Obviously it wasn't about money. Some people turn to drugs and alcohol, for her it was shoplifting. Even rich and famous people aren't immune to going through rough times.
Its so obvious she had a disorder, yet the public eye make her look like a drug addict thats turned to stealing to buy drugs or something.
i didn’t think about that, thank you
She’s ok in my book
Winona kicked arse in Stranger Things
she did. I can't wait until season 2

its a shame the Dixie chicks got such hate because lets face it george bush was a joke
Muricans...
Blakeeeyyyy that's why I love being British. He can laugh at US presidents and UK prime ministers without a care in the world as our culture gets what satire is.
Blakeeeyyyy Most presidents were jokes.
Why did they have to get hated on? All they said was that George W. Bush wasn't a good president which is actually true. Sooner or later the people who hated on the Dixie chicks for saying that are going to regret it.
Exactly !
Winona Ryder has definitely redeemed herself in Stranger things she is awesome in that show
No Lance Armstrong?
Hayden Silbermann I was thinking the same thing! He lost even his foundation and publicity contracts.
Hayden Silbermann I still don't think that he deserved that severe of a punishment. I mean, everyone was doping bag then and if he (or anyone else) hadn't, there is no way he could've been able to win anything. And it's not like he did it all for himself, he had a good cause.
He retired before the drug scandal arose
Oh yeah!
aDotFromTheFuture It wasn't the doping that destroyed Armstrong, people have more or less forgiven his rivals like Ulrich and Basso.

Why does everyone lose their shit over the n word? Many black people use it to refer to each other and go as far as to put it in PUBLICLY LISTENED TO SONGS. Seriously. Its hardly ever used in an actually racist way and when it's not used as racial slur, people still get offended. I don't get it.
The word itself is racist. It is a derogatory word used by slave owners to talk about African Americans.
Dogyphil i see the same problem black people use it all the time but when a white person does it ohhh all hell breaks loose gotta make it public
Lol you saying: if there is a racist word that blue people say to purple people, it should be ok for the blue people to keep using the insulting word because the hood, slang purple people use it sparingly. Not sure if you understand that as you white people are stupid and really love to use racist words and have fights and argue on the internet to let then continue using the racist word they made lol
yes they should be able to use it since they use it and if they get pissed since the others use it its their problem :P
no they are equally racist since it is the same word its like trying to sugar coat a already sugary cake or something of overlaying the same message
Anyone else laugh so hard when Mel Gibson thought the camera was off at the end? Or when that guy in the audience when the sexting politician was apologizing was like "yaaa! bye bye pervert!" lmao
The men who think Cosby is innocent should see/ hear him here with Larry King. Good list.

Well, the Dixie Chicks weren't wrong. They had every right to be ashamed of that excuse for a president coming from their state.
Erin McGee I know right? I felt bad for them the most out of everyone on the list. They were just saying what was all on our minds (except for most Texans).
Erin McGee I'm from Texas.....and i agree with the dixie chicks I'm ashamed bush came from my state.
Erin McGee I think some of the cases on this list can be attributed to the "Social Justice Warrior" effect.
Erin McGee No they weren't wrong by most country music fans are probably right wing conservatives so they pissed off a very large portion of their fanbase.
Erin McGee Screw you! Obama is far worse :P Usually when ur dealt all crappy cards you question the dealer, not the player.

ariana grande- donut licking
demi lovato- locking evil twin in the basement-ing

Harvey. Fucking. Weinstein.
Why? Those women lied
Aaron Anderson No they didn’t dumbass
Yeah that stupid ass bitch needs to be in prison for life
George Walker The same could be said for several rape allegations but they’ve been proven guilty
George Walker No I totally get you on that tons of ppl had their careers destroyed like that college football player who was falsely accused
If this had been made only a few months later, I feel like Jared Fogle would have made number one on this list.
yup
agreed
Oh god what did he do
+atomicfriendo how did he land in jail
Not technically career ending as he wasn't active with subway
Someone should let Mel Gibson know his career's over... multiple oscar nominations, continues to be a prolific actor in critically acclaimed movies. Hard times indeed...
I dont know mel, me might be really an asshole in real life, but I cant help but love him after watching all his lethal weapon movies.
Sinead O'Connor had a career ending scandal when she ripped up the pope's picture on SNL. Honorable mention?
she wasn't even that big to begin with
She WAS big around the time of that incident (a #1 song and album).
lurch321 ah gotcha, sorry I didn't really follow her and never really heard much about her
Or in this case, dishonorable mention
"Don't sell out you strange to those corporate bastards Fufa!"
Kanye disses the George Bush and his career isn't finished...
Shia LaBeouf Kanye's fans aren't George Bush fans.
Kanyes fans are mostly minorities and agreed with him
*****
OMG, you can't ask why he's black.
You can slam him all you want - Bush took it lightly - but you should NEVER - NEVER slam your leaders - on the eve of
war!!!!!!
But they never regained the same popularity after the incident. They practically vanished from the face of the earth after the Grammys
Ted is still around. They aren't.
Stranger Things Winoda Rider making bank like 350k per episode. She good now. Not slowing down anytime soon.
Add Kevin Spacy to the list
HappyHappyOMG A new career finishing scandal video is out now.
the heat died down for the Dixie chicks when everyone realized they were right about bush
Obamas worse
Cameron Henderson No
I never heard from them before that happened and turned out I kinda liked their music.
They didn't really loose fans, they shifted to a better fanbase.
Branon Fontaine lol triggered republican
Well if a musician came out against a Democrat like crazy ol' Ted Nugent they are ostracized and made into a villain. If you come out against a Republican you are made into a hero. So as a Republican I keep my mouth shut.
Why is the George W. Bush diss a scandal? I think I would react the same.
Sorry for those who find this rude, but that's my opinion. And to be honest, I've seen worse comments on TH-cam, so don't go telling me off.
Mostly because not liking George Bush was a really controversial opinion back in the early 2000's.
+Emily Armstrong (GoneIn30Seconds) maybe in the red states, and even they knew he was kind of a duffis.
Well, if I want to tell you off, I will, but I actually don't want to.
But seriously, being ashamed of being from the same state as someone you don't like? Who cares? You might also be from the same state as someone you think is really cool.
The Dixie Chicks are country musicians, so most of their fanbase was probably conservative at the time.
Wow this is the first time I actually heard what she said. I remember when I heard the news she was quoted as saying she was ashamed of being American and that America sucks! It didn’t say anything about Texas or George w. If it had been real news I would have agreed with what she said but at the time and the fake news I got I thought she was pretty messed up for saying that
Mel Gibson has bounced back a lot. Edge of Darkness is my favorite film if his. Get the Gringo was awesome and so was Dragged Across Concrete.
Exactly, hacksaw ridge was an amazing movie, blood father was fun and boss levels looks interesting
I don't understand how the Dixies got hit so hard for talking shit on bush. A lot of people did and still do.
Milo Terrabuca They're country artists though. Their fan base isn't as generally anti-establishment as say an Immortal Technique's.
Milo Terrabuca It was 2003. People still liked him then. They won Grammys in 2007 when everyone began to hate Bush and Iraq
Milo Terrabuca it was their fan base. They were country music singers.
What about Jeremy clarkson? He punched a producer over a steak.....
Unfortunately this list seems to be US celebs that fked their careers. I recon Clarkson will bounce back.
Lmao really XD... o and that's why it's called top 10
TheGameChainJS It's way too early to say if it ended his career. And from what I've seen, he has a lot of options
TheGameChainJS I think these videos take a few months to get produced, so maybe Clarkson's latest scandal is a bit too recent?
TheGameChainJS Jezzas doing fine, the Clarkson, Hammond and May show was packed out as it could be when I went to see it and he is getting job offers out his ass. Perhaps he can go somewhere less stifiling that the BBC and say what he wants.
Winona Ryder as definitely bounced back with stranger things
me me yeah, but it's no huge Oscar worthy rolls like Girl, Interrupted was
RPDR Legend a straight to Netflix tv show is hardly a comeback for someone that used to headline movies.
Also, this video was made before stranger things went on the air
Snow Doll Yeah but more than 4.6 million people watch it so...
7:53 “ YEAhHH Say bye bye pervert “ that man just made my day
I think if the Dixie chicks had sung in another genre, Like if they were pop stars, their fan base wouldn't have suffered as much. I think a like of country fans have stricter views on politics
country used to be a lot more liberal (i.e. Johnny Cash) until the 80s
“One Day They’re On Top Of The world”
“The Next?”

What is he now? 200th best in the world. Ouch!
Maiden Aust Yeah, I bet fucking a bunch of women made him a worse golfer. No, that scandal did not destroy his career, getting older did.
Maiden Aust His ranking has nothing to do with the scandal
Maiden Aust Sinéad O'Connor...
What about R. Kelly?
Yeah, quite right.
He has so many scandals but his career never was ruined by them. It faltered but he's still doing extremely well.
Screaming Silence. Unfortunately!
I thought those accusations were false, that's so sad for him
I think we'd all agree that now Bill Cosby would be ranked number 1
Everyone wears a mask nope, pee wee Herman
6:48 Doesn’t sound very “career finishing” if they receive Grammy awards afterwards
That Paula Deen scandal just pisses me off, because while rappers and comedians say these words all the time meanwhile Paula says the N word a few times, and gets fired!
Well she was clearly using it in a derogatory way towards a specific race
The Sir (blasterblade) Using it in a serious situation is way different than using it in a joke or by someone that is black and has lived the racism that goes with that word.
Yep, im sure she was just inspired by all the rap she listens too.
The Sir (blasterblade) when she said it she meant it in a insulting way, when black people say it they dont mean it that way. thats why she was fired...
i agree completely
Hadn't Cosby's career been over for like 10+ years before this scandal finally nailed him? I wouldn't say it finished his career.
I agree and people today wouldn't have the Balls to speak out against these idiot candidates
It’s about time you update this list guys 😭😭😭
Mel gibsons career is over? Since when?
Eirek Eichel Not over but he wont be getting major roles any time soon
I haven't seen him in any movies.
Jeff the killer It's not like he needs it anyway. He's a director now mostly. He can star in his own freaking movies if he wants. I think he'll be just fine.
People can feel whatever way about Gibson, Apocalypto is one of the greatest movies of all time. Really great director honestly.
I REALLY hope he's a bad guy in the next Mad Max haha
One of the worst things that can emotionally wreck a person is when they are near the top and take a big status drop and then they're nothing and no one likes them. Even if they totally deserve it them knowing that fact makes the hurt worse. This isn't just a fame thing, it's a human thing.
Milli Vanilli was ahead of the curve? It's one thing for a performer to lip sync themselves singing elsewhere, but Milli Vanilli were lip syncing homelier black men. Two attractive Carribean male dancers dancing around and lip syncing to two talented, yet unattractive black men. How much more poser can you get?
They were from Munich Germany not the Caribbean
the dixie chick controversy was bs imo, its just at the time the american people were so full of rage against terrorism that everyone was supporting president bush to the last letter until we realized iraq was a lie
Anyone else think it was BS that paula deen got kicked off the air for allegedly saying the n word in her private life?
christhefishhunter Also she was being held with a gun to her face.
christhefishhunter She admitted to it though.
Yeah, she said the n word in her life, and she gets kicked off?
People need to chill out. Words are words. I think it's really dumb that white people can say something so minuscule about black people then when a black person generalizes the white race and spits on it the get cheered on.
I know how could you not say the n word if the person is robbing you with a gun to your face and their black. It's so stupid
The Dixie Chicks deserve respect from all of us for daring to question the motives of the people in charge despite the hysteria and fear that had gripped the country at the time.
Americans getting massacred for who they were wasn't a hysteria, it was reality. The Dixie Chicks deserved everything they got.
The Dixie Chicks one is sad...I mean she was saying how she felt about our then POS president
I come from the future and I'm telling you, Wynona Ryder's career was revived by a show called Stranger Things. And Mel Gibson got an Oscar nomination for Best Direction.
