This video will either make people really angry or be very enjoyable, so I'm selling both popcorn and pitchforks

Great video! Mad Monster Mansion is easily my personal favorite though. I love just how packed it is with all the different entrances, and it absolutely nails the spooky Halloween feel with its music and art design. I love climbing to the top of the church steeple and just looking around the level and see how it was all written on paper first. Anyways, that's just my thought.

The note system is actually not a core component of the game. The team regretted not being able to get around the issue and the "note score" system was the only way they found to maintain a number of 100 notes per levels sadlly ! That's also why notes were stacked in bunches of 5 and 20 in Tooie. While the cartridge did have more memory to save, it was still not quite enough to save 100 notes per level + the new collectibles for all 3 save files.
A rom hack now exists to save each individual note in every level in the original N64 Kazooie, with the drawback being it removes save files 2 and 3, limiting you to one.
Also Snacker can be killed with eggs. While he will respawn, it will usually give you much enough time to grab whatever you need in there ;)

very interesting list! quite different to mine and many others' but I feel like most ppl rank Freezeezy and Treasure Trove Cove near the top.
    here's mine
    1. Treasure Trove Cove
    2. Mad Monster Mansion (impeccable Halloween vibes)
    3. Freezeezy Peak
    4. Click Clock Wood (amazing concept for the time)
    5. Gobi's Valley
    6. Rusty Bucket Bay (would be remembered more fondly if visual theme was similar to Mario Sunshine and boat was a cruise ship)
    7. Mumbo's Mountain
    8. Bubblegloop Swamp (still a fun stage just a bit bland)
    9. Clanker's Cavern (just way too much time swimming in a gross looking place haha)

As far as the ranking goes :
I personally rank Mumbo's Mountain last or second to last at best. While the level has little to no flaws, it takes no risks and is very barebones with little to do. While it makes sense for the first level of one of the first 3D platformers on one of the first 3D consoles, it also makes replaying it today not all that exciting. Not a chore, but not exciting.
And completely biased but I rank Mad Monster Mansion much higher because they nailed the theme IMO.
That's my 2 big standouts personally.

I beat Banjo Kazooie last week, it was really good. My favorite level in the game has to be the Christmas winter level.

You hurt me. And then I stuck around. And I was hurt some more. And then you brought it back.
Overall, I do think it's fascinating our differences in opinion in what exactly makes a Banjo level good! I LOVE the teeth of losing your note progress, it makes being able to do what are generally concise levels with ample opportunities to scale them with flight and fleet feet in perfect runs rewarding (and feel that Clanker suffers from that the most because... yeah you can't really do him fast in the same way), it gets the most out of Banjo's unique and flexible movement options that are more forgiving but less momentum-driven than Mario's. Plus I love the idea of limited resourced with limited enemy spawns making Banjo, at its 100% peak, tests of endurance and level knowledge so... yyyyeah my #1 should probably be obvious from that. But I like this perspective on how Banjo keeps things so concise and tight and celebrating that; that's such an important part of Banjo's loop, too, and you articulate it super well!
    For posterity, an off-the-cuff list:
    0. Gruntilda's Lair
    1. Click-Clock Wood
    2. Mad Monster Mansion
    3. Freezeezy Peak
    4. Treasure Trove Cove
    5. Mumbo's Mountain
    6. Rusty Bucket Bay
    7. Bubblegloop Swamp
    8. Gobi's Valley
    (Spiral Mountain)
    9. Clanker's Cavern
Good time, though! Nicely put together and thought out! Gloop.

If Clanker's Cavern let you explore his heart, lungs, and brain, and really went all out with the creepy unsettling tone of the environment, it would easily be my favorite Banjo level.
Also if they remake this game I really hope they add an underwater corkscrew ability, were you spin and dash forward. It would be an attack as well as a way of covering underwater distance faster.

    My ranking:
    9 Rusty Bucket Bay
    (I just hate this level!)
    8 Clankers Cavern
(Very boring design, I dislike pure water levels!)
    7 Gobis Valley
(Not very special and also very boring)
    6 Mumbos Mountain
    (Boring first world)
    5 Clickclock Wood
(I don’t really like vertical levels, it’s very annoying to play if you fall down, but has a amazing theme)
    4 Treasure Trove Cove
    3 Bubblegloob Swamp
    2 Mad Monster Mansion
    1 Freezeezy Peak

The swimming controls in Banjo-Kazooie are really fun once you get used to them, you can go anywhere you want and just readjust yourself by pressing A instead of B

Never seen any first time player on twitch die in the Sandybutts maze. This has massively IGN energy.
If MMM is 8 and TTC 1. This is getting downvoted.
At least RBB wasn't put last.
7:55 missinformation. If you run away outside, you start over. If you let him bite you for 2HP, you replay that challenge.
Sounds like someone was a silly Goose and after getting bit, ran out and back in, ignoring Vile's textbox.
MM being this high is also a very IGN take.
I won't downvote since TTC wasn't first. But FP is my least favorite level, purely on minigames.
The irony here is that some stages are rated on replayability/coming back to it since childhood.
Others are purely first impression based.
None really cover what the level is like getting stuck in, or other struggles except the little complaint about losing notes in CCW (and rbb engine room) feeling very punishing.
Could I make a better video? Probably not.
    But the video is flipfloppy.
Was this a ranking video on personal preference?
On accessibility, aesthetic and things that are pretty unbiased?
Based on first impression from a new player's perspective?
    Etc
I will give bonus points to the scripted banter like "uncultured swine".
    K. This took more effort than I wanted xD. Good luck with future videos!

      @its_apt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

You're right, the ranking seemed really unfair on this video.
For exemple, Clanker's Cavern being so low because "it's a water level" isn't fair at all, the water controls in Banjo-Kazooie are some of the best in early platformers once you get used to it.
On another note, I don't get how Click Clock Wood gets to be so high up, it's only kinda fun on your first playthrough, when you get explore and find what to do for other seasons and stuff. On a second (or more) playthrough, it just feels like a chore having to climb the tree so many times over and over again,.

  • @its_apt
    @its_apt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Freezeezy Peak is probably my least favorite level in Banjo-Kazooie. While the theme and the music of the level might be great, I always find actually playing it just annoying when coming back to it. The frozen water makes it so you either have to damage boost accross or take a detour sometimes, and Sir Slush can be extremely annoying to deal with. Climbing the snowman can also feel like a chore since, most of the time, you're probably gonna have to climb it multiple times because you forgot a thing or two. The walrus is easily the least memorable transformation, with it feeling the slowest and basicly acting like infinite wading boots. Boggy's race is also pretty bad in my oppinion, and his rubberbanding makes it even worst. You almost have to let him go ahead sometimes, since if you don't he'll just get a huge speed boost at the end and win. Also, the fact this level has one of the only instances of backtracking doesn't help either...
