Act 3 Astarion's romance (with approvals) & personal quest (spawn path) | Baldur's Gate 3

- Final instalment of Astarion romance videos containing approvals/disapprovals from my "good" playthrough. These approvals are here to sate the curiosity of those who have maxed out the scale by Act 3 & those who still want to befriend him... more. There are other opportunities available, of course, but I also ended up maxing the approval out, so... that is it.
As usual I am including all conversations and such, as well as the resolution for Astarion's personal quest & romance scene that follows. As you can see not supporting ascension in previous dialogues doesn't impact the check when it comes to the final decision. So, if Astarion decided on his own to not ascend in your game, you probably didn't notice killing one or more of the other spawn while fighting Cazador (did you use Daylight, mm?).
I have also added the post patch 5 version of the ascension decision scene (music got updated after rejecting ascension with "I Want to Live").

26:36 - "Don't look at me like that. With the sweet little 'disappointed I'm not getting cuddly Astarion' pout. I can't take it. I can't be what you want to see in me." - the guy's aversion to see any good qualities in himself other than his good looks and cunning is hilarious and sad at the same time. He knows he can be cuddly, but he resists the idea.
Ngl that comment he made kinda hurt. And how afterwards you can reassure Astarion people could actually care about him. And your whole gang does care - they were all ready to wreck Cazador once they learned about the scars.
People frequently discuss his disassociating during intimacy as a coping mechanism but I honestly think this is another. He had no choice not to act as a lure, and yet, by his own admission, he tried not to pick innocents. While criminals don't necessarily deserve that fate either, obviously, it's a lot easier to deal with handing over someone dangerous than some rando who just thought he was cute. Some part of him IS good and doesn't want to hurt innocent, kind people, and he clearly holds guilt over Sebastian and the other innocents. But apathy has likely protected him from going mad with guilt for all this time, and we see him falling into it the closer he gets to the ritual. It's fascinating writing.
I am also just so obsessed with the fact that they actually animate Tav pouting lol..... they're actually giving him a 🥺look, it cracks me up
I love how you can just let Astarion be the Main Character for a while, even when you're not playing as him.
I don't think of spawn-Astarion as, "We can fix him!" the way a lot of the internet does. I think it's more of the player walking between him and the edge of a cliff so he doesn't fall over. (And in the case of Durge, it goes both ways.)
I agree with you, I am not big on "I can fix" him trope myself. And after experiencing his story in both good and evil playthroughs your metaphor of him walking on the edge feels very accurate.
@@carianbandit I’ve seen a romanced Ascended Astarion on TH-cam and…the best I can say is kudos to the VA for literally scaring the ever-living heck out of me…
@@ChiakiNanami736 I ended up romancing Minthara in my evil run because Astarion just makes my skin crawl as a love interest when ascended.

Haha, thanks! Yes, you'd need at least an instrument proficiency to do this. Also, unfortunately Milil doesn't actually join you unlike other bards (e.g., you can hear Volo whistling) even though he looks like he's doing something. The guy just gets muted while you're jamming, so I am playing the same instrument as him to hide that fact.

I just finished my first campaign earlier today and its weird seeing so many people i didnt even try to talk to oops! And that skull!!!! I think i passed in front of it once or twice but i didnt think it was worth my attention!!! I feel like a dumbass!!!
Anyway, this was so sweet. Thank you for chronicalling you journey in romancing astarion, so i could see something i didnt get to experience
To be fair the game is very big & a lot of things are easy to miss. If it makes you feel better I also ignored the skull at Cazador's in my first playthrough haha.

It was never Astarion's fault Sebastian was led to Cazador. The origin story fore tells that Caza dor locked and sealed Astarion up in a Coffin for a year, for not taking Sebastian to him. He refused his Master, but Cazador grabbed him anyway.
Caz the Cadd, told Astarion to take the Gurr Camp kids, to him.
It wasn't Astarion's conquest, but his Master's cruel prey.
