Controversial opinion time: I understand why Larian didn't animate the option for Astarion to get a hug when he breaks down crying. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was very averse to touch in an extremely vulnerable moment, when he just needs *catharsis* before comfort.

Yeah, I agree. He still hasn't gotten over his trauma, so it would make more sense to let him have this moment. Hug or not hug, there's gonna be plenty of time in the future to let him know we care.
Me too. Personally I am more than happy with getting to hug him when he confesses to you because it's a genuinely sweet moment overall. But in this instance I think that him knowing that you have his back, that you are present, and that you are supportive of him, can absolutely be enough. Some moments call for giving a person _space_ to process something, rather than "coddling" them (although I understand that's not the intention of people who want to hug him).
I adore his character. So much growth, so much sass along the way, and so many feels. They did a great job writing him and his story options; and picked the perfect VA for him. Absolutely sublime.
They used mocap! So the actors did everything for each scene. Neil Newbon definitely threw everything he had into Astarion, and it shows throughout the game. 🩵

As nice as it would be there's the fact that he just got done stabbing Cazador multiple times and might hurt anyone approaching him reflexively in that state.
I don't think Astarion would appreciate it in that moment. He usually keeps to himself in such situation and comes to you later for support when he thought it through

i'm so sorry to hear that :C I bet you can find some guides to get his approval high enough. He can sleep with your character with low approval, tho. You have to pick 'knowing you, it probably is' when he's asking about 'little fun'(the tiefling's party), otherwise you're going to 'sniff someone else around'. :C Also Raphael's quest(about Astarion's scars, in Act 2) gives a lot of approval. Just be patient, caring and supportive with him. He secretly loves that.
I can get him to Very High affection before even bothering with the grove stuff. You don't even have to be evil in order to do it. Just make some very careful choices and he'll romance you. In my main playthrough, I'd turned everyone else down and his Approval was Very High but there was no romance. I actually had to do a trick of leaving the Act 2 area to go back to the Act 1 camp and boom, he propositioned me.
May I ask how you got your character into the "Dream Lover" dress in those final scenes? I know there's a mod or two, but when I use it those two pieces alone come up a bright blue, whether using the camp clothes version or the gear version.

I had no experience being a dick (Sebastian, Thane and Alistair has entered the chat), but the further we went together, the easier it was to understand his motivations/preferences. And It's fun to challenge him sometimes, too! Not all choices he approved were bad... Well, most of the time we grabbed popcorn and stood aside, watching the show, instead of rushing and helping people...buuut, I regret nothing. xD

@@Fenris-- I uploaded a screenshot for you but youtube keeps deleting my comment. you should be able to find her when you enter moonrise and go left - you'll see a wooden door and her vendor icon should already be visible on your minimap. but go there before starting gauntlet of Shar (I didn’t go to moonrise immediately but went to free Nightsong which then pretty much locked me out of the interaction with Araj).

When I went here, I met Skelly boy Reaper and his horde. Absolute's zealots weren't here either, only one person, who guarded the bridge. And after I killed Ketheric(first phase), they were just missing.

You don't need to have played D&D to understand. I've been playing these games since I was 13 (back when the first Baldur's Gate came out in 1998) and never had anyone to play D&D yet in all honesty it taught me a lot and I can now roll with the best of them despite having only ever played by myself.

I’ve been playing dnd for a couple of years, but playing this game only actually helped me being a better dnd player and a better roleplayer in general. So actually, playing BG3 would be a great introduction to tabletop roleplaying, I think.

Perhaps i'm on 100% wrong, but the first thing that came to mind when he mentioned 'the most satisfying' is accepting him, his feelings in one particular scene(when he reveals that 'his nice, simple plan fell apart'.) He was ready for rejection, but instead Tav(in my case) hugged him, agreed to be 'something real'. And he said 'he has no idea what they're both doing and what comes next'. Or probably he mentioned something that happened off-screen, as a joke/flirt.
Baldur’s Gate 3. The writing is this good throughout the whole game, and the replayability factor is off the damn charts. Like, Astarion as one character will literally develop according to your choices throughout the game - and sometimes he’ll make the choices you want him to make without even having you try to convince him. He can either become a hero or be an absolute evil pest by the end of the game, and it’s all up to you. I definitely recommend trying it out! Because every outcome you are here is just one of many, many outcomes you can see with this character, and then multiply it with every other playable character in the game, and some NPCs. 10/10 game honestly.

Hurts because they do touch on the guilt and the sadness (the 'meat' of this if you will, the trauma) and Astarion seems to just push it away, and I was hoping for more than that. But it does truly put the responsibility on the player of where to take this story. These characters that are so far gone if not played right. Definitely lots of opportunities for evil and good.... still would like to see more but nothing is perfect and I love this game so much.. it's a bit frustrating and heart-breaking and well..empty for me seeing as that a lot of that writing has been thrown out the window but it has so many great things too...ugh.. so many feelings. Would have really helped the character development and story feel more real and attractive.... Still is attractive but yeah... sigh I do love however the insight check you picked. "It's intoxicating to him," he's not himself. Let's humanize this man. Such a good game. The scene where he cried and stabs him is the most broken we've ever seen him. Why do I love it so much??? I also love that he does realize how power hungry he was. So good

He had an amazing story! It shows us that it takes time for people to change, but that doesn’t mean they can’t. It also shows a prime example that hurt people hurt others. It also shows us that doing evil things makes a person’s character change, even if they were forced to do those things. It teaches a variety of things. I understand why people write Astarion off, he does not do the right thing or even think of it for a long time, but as evil as he acts he is capable of good.

There’s always the pause feature on TH-cam. Reasonable to get caught up in the action. 😊

Probably sex, nothing too deep, since he says it as a joke. But it can be interpreted however the player wants so, any answer is kind of correct :]
