I'm a glutton that wishes you could hug him AND tell him that you don't need to have sex until he's ready. It just feels like a non-intimate gesture of comfort and a confirmation that you care about his autonomy all in one.

It’s so interesting that people claim you /must/ be evil (or morally gray at the very least) to win his approval. I used a guide on my first playthrough that just tracked all of the things he approved and disapproved of, and found that I could 100% still save the grove, make peace between the Tieflings and the Druids, and slaughter all the Goblins. By the Tiefling party, I believe my approval with him was “Good”, enough that he expressed interest in me during the party. Fast forward to the end of act 2, and my approval with him was exceptional. I pretty much always had him in my party, too, because a) I was romancing him and b) his lockpicking skills came in handy and despite that, I think I only had to detach him from my party like thrice in my entire playthrough. What’s even crazier is that I permitted him to feed on me that one night (when it’s revealed he’s a vampire), but did not permit him to feed on me afterwards (just other humans) and STILL was able to romance him. In short? Romancing Astarion for a good playthrough is absolutely possible. He even comments about my “big heart” in one instance.

Ugh I love watching these compilations so much. It does bug me that all the cuts I've seen are from playthroughs where Gandrel did not get killed, and when I try looking up how everything with the Gur here in Act 3 works if you chose to kill Gandrel in Act 1, no one's talking about it. I guess it just plays out differently just with Gandrel not being there, but it bugs me that I can't find any confirmation of it, just people asking if he plays a role later on and people just saying nah not really, you do see him with his kids again etc etc etc. But what I'm trying to figure out really is the bit with the Gur in general still there? Or does that all get scrapped because Gandrel isn't there? Only because I do like the idea of the Gur being involved here, if only as like auxillary or cavalry.

Actual biggest piece of dogshit. Happened to me in A raid on Destiny. Right after we cleared it, they booted me before I got any of the rewards. Truly no reason for it

after finally getting the game and having one of my characters go for it, i found that, for the most part, you can indeed get his romance whilst being a righteous fool. as long as you aren't a PIOUS goody-goody, you can still help others out and he won't disapprove too badly. by my count, as long as you aren't rejecting rewards for helping people and not helping people in an EAGER rush, his disapprovals are only as small as about... 15-25 points depending? you can gain, with SOME mischief in your day to day, about 70-80 approval if you REALLY try hard enough to get his higher approval choices (like telling raphael to fix you or DIE, and let him interrupt the bugbear and ogre in your stead) making the 40 approval needed to even start his romance at all, by camp celebration or not, not impossible to achieve. otherwise, for the pious types, you'll be sending him to camp pretty much half the grove and... part of the bog? just the brothers and the Gur parts. so for anyone still thinking it's hard to do, or having trouble with him disapproving everything, need to probably think about not playing the PIOUS type.

Saying Astarion can only be romanced by an evil character is like saying Dark Urge is only for evil runs. Good guy Astarion romance and Resist Dark Urge are just as valid, and arguably more emotionally cathartic and true to the characters than the evil options.

How often would you say is a good time to rest/camp out? Not just to talk with Astarion but I am super curious about all the characters and want to learn as much as I can about them.

I went in with astarion only to get the blood of lathlander. And his reply to us asking for help. “Don’t worry your prettt head. Im sure there’s a way out of this” 😂

I love how you can just let Astarion be the Main Character for a while, even when you're not playing as him.

Reject them and do the quest anyway. It's really simple. Nettie asks you to find Halsin. Say no and then go kill the goblins. Get your vampire + bear daddy love triangle

It’s super easy, I usually play as goody two shoes as a Durge can be, and I’ve never found Astarions approval hard. If you’re having a hard time, just choose the mocking or mean dialog options. Shadowheart likes it when you lie, Astarion tends to like it when you intimidate. Also be nice to all the cats, he likes cats!

Astarion isn't evil. He approves of good/noble things (especially as the game progresses) you just gotta be sassy af like him 😂

Storytelling-wise, I think Spawn Astarion works best with a good character.

I feel like if he paints astarion, that there should be special dialog. Dude hasn’t seen his own face in gods know how long, and if he did, he should be like: “damn mc, this is the best thing I’ve had in centuries!”

I really want him to be a playable character in BG4!

How do you prevent Gale (non-romanced) from ascending?

I didn’t romance him, my giant hunk of a human fighter somehow got with Gale instead (couldn’t be happier with that nerd), but seeing Astarion at the party legitimately made me cry tears of joy. I’d gotten so frustrated with him trying to get approval as a good/redeemed urge and he seemed to hate everything I did. But seeing him at the party, being *himself,* seeming genuinely happy and just a chaotic dork made me *begging* for a dialogue option to just tell him how damn proud I was of him. Larian needs to patch that in.

Hi ! Does anyone know if I can start romancing him in Act 2 ? I was going for shadowheart in Act 1 but had a change of heart, I just rejected her after Nightsong and already had all the cutscenes + Astarion approvals up to the confession one, that I’m yet to get. Will I get it or did I just friend zoned myself on all sides ? 😭

Me: is an all out goody two shoes Light/Life domaine human cleric who helps everyone, plays the hero, gives to the poor, preaches about Selune whenever she can, generally annoys Astarion with her by the book selflessness. Astarion: (by Act 2) is this the love of my life?

Neil said he based his performance of Astarion on a stray cat that comes by his house that took 3 years before it would allow him to pick it up. Put like that yea you can see it. Astarion is like a stray cat that just wants to be loved and affectionate but is too scared you have to be cautious but once you get his trust he’s very loving
