This is the best auto repair channel on TH-cam, IMO. This guy knows a lot more than I do but I've used a much faster and easier way to clean my hvlp guns. I simply run lacquer thinner though it just like when painting something. It seems to work just as good as disassembling the gun although I do that occasionally.

I agree that detail cleaning it thoroughly when you 1st get it is mandatory but honestly I just flush mine now... I used to detail clean my guns every time but now I just flushing it with Paint thinner (Mineral spirits) works very well and takes about 3 min.
To flush it after a spraying session I open the guns setting full blast and fill the cup, shake up the gun and spray about 4-6 oz of paint thinner through it, then I clean the cup with a rag soaked in paint thinner and refill the cup with about 4oz of acetone... Spray that through it, pull the needle wipe it down with paint thinner put it back in and spray another 2oz of paint thinner through it.
Then I just wipe the gun down with a rag soaked in paint thinner, and put about 1 oz of thinner into the cup and set it on its stand, I leave it "wet".
Doing this makes the gun last easily about 10-20 spray sessions. And at $9.99 each once I get one that starts to spray poorly or gets "sticky" I part it out, put it in the ultra sonic cleaner it and grab a new one off the shelf, I keep 2-3 "in stock" and just buy them on sale with a 20% off coupon.
I have sprayed about 12-15 gallons through my current gun using only the simple flush method and it still sprays nicely.

Also a new beginner that's also not willing to purchase a expensive gun for just one planned job. Starting tomorrow morning I'm going to be as my 1st project painting my 36ft Gulf Stream Sun Stream Hi Rise motorhome. I know a big project for a 1st time job! But with your help and others here on Utube I'm pretty sure I can do it! So wish me luck! And thanks for your help!

A great little gun for just dollars from Harbor Freight! Very easy to use and setup. Never used one before, attached it to my 55Gal air compressor and used it to spray stucco paint on my garage and it worked perfectly without any problems. I guess you could pay more for a higher quality gun but if your not doing a lot of paining or don't anticipate doing a lot of painting later, why spend the extra money for a better gun when this one works perfect!

The front nozzle mount assembly can be removed with an allen wrench. Once the nozzle and tip are removed, look inside the front of the gun and you'll see the key.

I needed this. My gun came with tools and a 9mm tube wrench that fits inside the body. It looked as though that threaded piece that the nozzle cap threads on to was meant to come off. It does not. And I see he didn't his either. Good info.

I read somewhere that you can eliminate the built in air pressure regulator on hvlp guns by taking it out completely and just using a block off plug in its place.

HF offers this purple HVLP gun in two different part numbers, same price, but one comes with the wrench and one does not. Also, there is assembly lube in the adjustment for the fan spray and built in regulator screw as well.

Tip only: Take a common bread twist tie that has plastic on it and burn off or melt the plastic off with a lighter or match. The metal left is excellent for cleaning out small holes or orifices with. Better than a toothpick in reality. Do up a couple of them to keep in your cleaning setup kit.

@ 4 mins 23 secs into video, you said use 19-20 mm wrench, untrue unless have specialty wrench which is way thinner. I just purchased one of these today (correct on not having included wrench) BTW behind that nozzle the copper section un-threads and loads of factory lube in in that section. Great video besides what I noticed though upon cleaning mine :)

From my background in chemistry and also doing auto painting at home for some years.... Here's my thoughts on you question: No, you need use the same solvent that is used in the paint, to clean the gun. This assumes you are talking about latex paint of true water-based clear coats for house stuff, furniture, etc. As opposed to the newer "water-borne" automotive solvent-based coverings. So for cleaning a spray gun used for latex paint, use warm, mildly soapy water. Latex paint sets up pretty fast where expose to air, so clean the gun soon and you'll need toothbrush etc to remove the congealed latex from the nooks and crannies. Having said all this, I don't think you would ever use the Harbor Freight gun in the video for latex paint....... I think it's not designed for that. I noticed that the HF gun in the above video has a 1.5 mm tip, this is still borderline (i.e. a bit too small) to safely spray latex paint without clogging. Latex pain is SOOOO thick compared to automotive finished. I use an old Campbel-Hausfeld spray gun with a 1.9 or 2.0 mm tip for spraying latex paint on trim work (like baseboards, crown moulding.....) before installing to the house. For painting cars, I use this HF gun but it has the 1.4 tip. I only use it for spraying 2K primer but I could use it for clear if I had to. I use the HF Black Widow HTE spary gun with a 1.3 tip for spraying basecoat (i.e. color). Hope this helps. If you want a great TH-cam channel dedicated to painting like a pro at home, check out ThePaintSociety YT channel. I've learned a lot from him. Good luck.

As soon as I'm done spraying, I dump out the remaining paint and then run lacquer thinner through the gun, shake it up, dump it and then do
it again with more fresh thinner. I rarely disassemble my guns because running the lacquer thinner through them immediately takes care of that problem.
Also...never let the paint sit inside the gun for long.....ESPECIALLY if you're using any kind of hardener in your paint.

Ditto. Doing this makes the gun last about 10-20 spray sessions. And at $9.99 each once you get one that sprays poorly or gets "sticky" I part it out and ultra sonic it and/or scrap it. I have sprayed about 12-15 gallons through my current gun using only the simple flush method and it still sprays nicely.

Hi. Thanks for the vid. I just used one of these. When I removed the fluid nozzle with the wrench, the nozzle came off along with the brass part, the white o-ring and the black, plastic washer thing. I couldn't just get the nozzle to come off.

    • @mytvc1542
      @mytvc1542 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I had the same problem...... at first. Then I used the skinny wrench for paint guns (I had from another....), and used a 10mm allen socket (on a 1/2 inch drive wratchet) to unscrew these two parts from each other. They were VERY TIGHT, and hard to separate. It's a bad spray gun design, because there's parts to clean on BOTH sides of the threaded brass thingy. You MUST remove and clean the silver nozzle gadget (separate from the brass threaded base) after spraying 2K primer, because you could have caked-on primer accumulating in the center channel. Likewise, on the other side there is the black round plastic flow-ring between the threaded brass part and the spray gun body. What I do is I re-assemble these parts with only gentle torque, for easy removal later (they won't leak while spraying under pressure). This is the only HPLV spray gun I've seen that makes it this hard to completely clean the gun. Yes, the above video didn't mention this additional step of disassemby for cleaning.

Biggest issue with my gun is the fan pattern itself; it's only about 4" tall. I believe mine is just junk, because I cant imagine this gun being popular if the fan is so small on all of them. I bought the HF Professional model and the fan is perfect and it atomizes/sprays metallics great. Worth the $45.
