    I just changed mine yesterday and I did not remove the intake manifold. Instead I removed the vent cowling. The cabin filter housing. Also, remove the rear cover of the back side of the intake manifold (2, 13 mm bolts and a 10 mm bolt). Remove the foam insulator. A 13mm bolt to the thermostat housing connecting to a coolant pipe from the radiator and a 10mm bolt to a pipe from the coolant reservior. The pipe to the radiator needs to be losen up. A 15mm bolt located on the elbow of the pipe behind the cylinder head. It needs to be removed in order to wiggle that pipe off the thermostat housing. Then 2 10 MM bolt holding on to the thermostat housing cover.

    Thank you very much. I was scratching my head wondering how I was going to get at the thermostat once I discovered that it's located in the back of the engine. I was worried that I would have to give it to the mechanics at the dealership. Thank you again.

    Love the video. I have a 2008 cts also. I have 160k plus miles now and all the repairs are starting to pile up. Haven't done anything yet, so I know it's time to start researching..Love the car and don't want to get rid of it but if the repairs become too expensive may have to get a new car...if u do more repairs please post. Thank you!!!

      +Victor Chang Glad it helped you, I fixed all that was wrong with the car, from ABS, Bearings, Coolant (VIDEO), as well as door locks and door lock switches.... then sold the car... I was fixing more than I was driving the car.... oh I forgot, I changed the front brake rotors and pads as well..... the bearings were the worst as well as the ABS sensors... I have a sensor if you ever need one... for free.

      +briggs9187 I appreciate it sir. You mentioned you have a video on the coolant? Please direct me to the link if you can. Reason is ther gone too hot/AV turned off display just came on for my CTS and trying to figure out how to solve the problem. I read somewhere it may be that I'm low in coolant.. I don't know if you can tell but I am not a car guy. Wish I knew more about car repair..Man I'm sad to hear you sold it, but totally understand why you would if your not using the car. Thank you for the info!! God bless people like you who honestly help out a stranger..

      +Victor Chang it's the engine is too hot /AV turned off is what is being displayed

      +briggs9187 darn spell check. Engine too hot/ac turned off.. Is the display. Made the temp gauge completely stop working and the fan is constantly running now. Just happened this morning. Any ideas?

      it is the one you Commented on, the issues were mentioned and I try to show how to fix them... really nothing out of the ordinary but rather hard to get to parts that made it rather difficult. The main thing about the coolant in these cars is that the coolant turns into a sort of a gel when it is too old, it gets stuck on the thermostat and the temp sensor, I replaced all three of them to prevent me missing the real culprit.. it fixed my issue 100%

    Is it necessary to purchase the thermostat and housing as one assembly, or can the thermostat be bought on its own?

    Did you change the water temp sensor as a "just-in-case" the old sensor was faulty, or because it was long overdue?

    • @briggs9187
      @briggs9187  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2cadillac I got an engine code and when I researched it it was one of three causes, A bad Thermostat, a bad Temp sensor, or old Coolant that globs up and covers the sensor... to make sure that I did not waste my time, I did all three and spent very little money and some time but not that bad. Thanks for the Compliment, there were not other videos, information or anything having to do with sensor locations and thermostat location, I did this video to help other people, just like you.

    • @2cadillac
      @2cadillac 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      briggs9187 My problem was not an engine code, the engine temp gauge would intermittently go from 220F to 280F. Then when I pull over and put in Park the temperature would go down to normal running temp of 218F. When it happened more frequently that's when I was pretty sure it's the thermostat. I'm tempted to change out the water pump while I'm under the hood.

      IF you see the cuts on my hands then you will know it is not easy, maybe because I had never done it before, the housing for the Thermostat is he toughest part of all... but I suggest taking your time and finish it all. Sorry if I can't help more than letting you know what I did.

    Would anyone know why when I get into my 2008 caddilac cts and go to press for the heat to come on nothing happens it's like the buttons are frozen but later in the day it sometimes let's ne turn it off and on. It's just the luck I get with it. It sux because i had to drive to work at 4a.m with the ac stuck on 60° blowing on my feet after shutting the vents manually :( I hope I explained it good enough for someone to understand and help me. Winter is right around the corner and I'll never get my windshield defrosted for work :( HELP PLZ!

    • @briggs9187
      @briggs9187  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It happens with my 2007 EXT, I bought a new temp panel for 100 bucks and problem fixed, the buttons would be frozen from old age or sticky soda, but a change in the panel fixed the sock buttons issue.

    This is the only video I found on the same model Cadillac I have, I drained the radiator and I refilled it at the coolant tank, because there is no place to fill the radiator or is it? now the temp. is rising and I'm not sure what to do, can you help?

    • @briggs9187
      @briggs9187  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, refill the tank, keep it open, run the car with the heat on high and the fan blowing on high, let it run and keep adding coolant to the max line, after a while, if the coolant has not gone below the max line... put the cap back on and you are done.

      +From Briggs to you: How did you know the thermostat was bad? I'm getting P2601 and P1258 codes for the aux coolant pump but it did actually hover heat. I was thinking I need to access from the bottom.
