    Thanks for the reflection of your experience on your first 90 days. I retired to the Philippines in Sept of 2020 and made it through the Philippines draconian CCP-19 restrictions. Never got the stupid CCP-19 shot that was sort of forced on the people here. I waited it out and glad I did.

    I married a Filipina woman 22 years ago in august and we will retire there. We have a property in a gated community that we need to build on or sell…. So $ notwithstanding ( we have to figure out a budget) we have the advantage of having lots of her relatives and I have been there 5 x so far. The relatives are not that rich but they all help each other and would help us with knowledge and hands on help We may even set up a business… we are both Canadian but all the relatives are able to help ….

      That is minimum. I wouldn't do it unless I had about $30k in savings in addition to the $2k a month. I have lived in Phil for 18 years and inflation is about 10 percent per year. So in 5 years you would need close to $3k a month

    Great story Mike. I also took the vaccine so I could travel to Philippines.You gotta do whats necessary right. I also walked the same beach in Panglao and used to get a coffee at the belview from the beach entrance. I agree that if you had a scooter when you were there it would have been a better experience. I lived in Dauis and travelled all over on a hired scooter, it was a great time. I also found food a bit pricey in Bohol compared to Duma and Davao.

    Mike, while you may have told your 'starting out' story a couple times prior I think this rendition is by far the best and most comprehensive. You did a nice job of focusing in on the logistical, emotional, and physical aspects facing new comers. Along with the de-stressing you did in your first month you also allowed yourself a more controlled pace for acclimating to a new culture. How nice of the on-line Filipina friends you had made, that they would go out of their way to greet you and help you 'set foot' as Mary would say. The Filipino people are truly wonderful and so are you and Janet. Stay healthy. Salamat po. Peace and Love, B Goat

      The annoying things about the Philippines were no free WiFi at places like Starbucks or McDonald’s, paper straws and wooden eating utensils.

    • @Billy_B_Goat
      @Billy_B_Goat 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ohioafguy I really had zero issues with that stuff. I found most coffee shops do have free wifi and the other stuff is like you said, just a little annoying. The Big stuff for me was the poverty, pollution, noise, and malnourished animals everywhere. That still tugs at me. At the medium level is the "out of stock" or just can't get items, well and how expensive electronics can be.

    • @ohioafguy
      @ohioafguy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Billy_B_Goat you are right about the stray animals. The poverty is very visible. You found free shelter WiFi available in McDonald’s and other coffee shops? As soon as we left the airport we only had it in our AirBB. Do you live in the Philippines? I went to Cebu, Manila, Palawan, and Mindanao. There wasn’t anywhere we went that I wouldn’t want to live

    My name is Hoyt. As a future expat this is the type of video I love to watch and listen to. Most of the videos are all about finding, keeping, or losing a Philippina. I figure that's something I may or may not concern myself with after I get there. It's getting there and all the tons of things I need to do when I get there that are important. Thank you so much Mike the information and honest way you presented it is phenomenal.

    You know? My wife had our US money 90 percent of the time I was there. Every week she got some changed. She just gave me a few thousand pesos every few days. I wasn’t getting the money changed. So it was impossible for me to realize if I just paid 5,000 pesos for this or that and in my head saying that’s about $250 US or about how many pesos I bought for $250

    Hey Mike and Janet. I pray that everything turns out well for both of you. I just went to my doctor, after going to the hospital 3 weeks ago for an emergency!! They found out that I had AFIB!! WTH!! I'm 67 years old on the 22nd of June, and having these somewhat complications My cardiologist is ordering a series of tests, and greatful for Medi - Cal and Medicare, as I don't pay anything!! Same for any meds and my dental work. I will see if I can travel with this new " BAD LUCK" sickness I've acquired recently. Hopefully, I can fly to the Philippines, even with AFIB symptoms. Much luck on your annual checkup, to both of you. Keep strong and believe in God to keep you healthy.

    I have had many questions about moving to the Philippines to meet the person that I have been in contact with for so very long. Your videos have bolstered my confidence and I plan very soon to be going to Luzon to be with the one that I hope to spend my life with. Still you have opened my eyes two questions that may come about after I am there. My feelings of being here in the states sound quite like you have described of yourself. It's not a political move but it is a move for my peace of mind. I am 66 now and time waits for no one. You and Janet have been an inspiration for me to do the thing that I put off for so long. Agree
    One must be happy with their self and the situation that’s going on to be happy wherever they’re going to live, but I do agree living in the Philippines cause you more financial freedom
    It’s a matter of where you stay and being able to feel safe and comfortable to enjoy that life
    As I am close to retirement, your channel has been a great help in my decision of where to go out of America. I have tried and have been to Thailand, but that’s not for me. The pollution is so bad. I don’t want to deal with that. The poverty level is the same in Thailand, as it is in the Philippines, you just have to know where to be and be safe.

    Finding a girl once you’re there. Like you said they can’t scam you as easily. But that could be good cause that weeds out the bad ones.

    Smart move not to drink. Guys get easy into that goin-to-the-bar trap when lonely. I lived in Cebu from 86 to 91. A lot of Expats I was hangin out with in that time drank themselfs into an early grave...

    Just my two cents, but the Manila airport is terrible. We always try to avoid it if possible, but sometimes the flights to Cebu via Manila are too cheap to turn down.

    Mike, when you decided to pull the plug on your job, and retire to the Philippines, were you already registered for Social Security, before then?
    I'm still waiting for the time I can be bored! 😂🤣 Maybe after we get moved into our new house, Monday? 🤔 I doubt it 🤣😂
    Although you've told many of the things in your story, before, it's still interesting to hear again. 👍
