I occasionally meet modern Mormon treasure hunters up in the mountains. Many have talismans and other devices. They are using quotes from the BoM thinking that the BoM has clues to the lost treasure of Nephi. You should do a Mormon stories on these folks. They are fun. The owners of the Dream Mine would be fascinating as well.
yes, the Dream Mine would be fascinating! My great-great grandpa wrote some things in his memoirs about talking to the Apostles about the Dream Mine and whether or not it was inspired
Hello Dr. Dehlin, I listen to you often, especially in light of the Dooms day Mom trial. There are many stories about the bad side of Mormonism, however, I can say the Catholic Church has you beat. 😂. Actually Mormons seem absolutely wonderful, so learning more about this religion needs to be done so I can understand why these other weird things happen. Listening now to Dan Vogel and you Pt.1, about Joseph Smith, he reminds me so much of Chad Daybell…how can one not make that connection. Perhaps a lot of these strayers are all a lot like JS. From what I’ve heard, it’s actually a very arrogant religion… as though disciples are trying to compete with JC. That is very odd to me, we teach humility and grace. I am not any particular religion, although baptized Greek Orthodox… it was in Greek so I didn’t know what the priest said and I was never made to go to church. In the end, listening to a lot of these Christian Faiths, except perhaps for the Eastern Orthodox, they are all a shame… I do like Martin Luther…. In the end, like our founders I am a Diest. Back to JS, learning of him, how does anyone say they are Mormon, he seems like a flim-flan man… as if this whole religion got started by someone like a Chad Daybell (not saying JS is a murder however) but he is a narcissist too…..JC wasn’t. , I shall keep watching, very interesting… I believe Mormons are salt of the earth almost like Amish where modernity is allowed LOL… Bye for now love the stories

@@teak43 great counterpoint. Just kidding. Do you put any thought into your response at all? If you just want to hear Dan's thoughts, read his book. If you want to hear someone really dig in and ask him things listen to this. It's not a speech, it's a discussion
Thanks to both. You two were my exit gate from mormonism many many years ago
Great series with Dan Vogel. He is my doppelganger. He even talks deliberately and carefully, like me. What a cool guy. :-)
Love this series. This episode make jsmithjr seem very human. Too bad he hurt all those people past and present.

Talismans? Very interesting

Never heard of this in modern times. Interesting. And sad…..
Where are these modern mormon treasure diggers? Just curious.
Very valuable discussion for people interested what Mormonism is.
I think the next billboard should read, “what do Woody Allen and Joseph Smith have in common?” (Answer: They both married their adopted daughter.)
Linda Michaels 🤣 ... yess
at least old Joe took the girl to the celestial kingdom, right? jeez I feel so bad for those poor kids that he abused
But didn't hornyJoe "marry" (r@pe) FIVE adopted daughters? He wins!

Old Joe was successful; he found the treasure in the pockets of his followers......

Is there an audiobook? Also, are you going to talk about Brigham Young too?

You keep saying buy Sam Vogel's book on Joseph Smith, but you can't! It's out of print!
Well, you can get it if you're willing to lay out $508 or more for a used copy on Amazon.
I just bought it on Kindle

Nice interview cont: ...which employ 40 hands...there are many mills, a printing shop, post office, and a turnpike is nearly finished to Montezuma.
Great conversation, but a little bit too much butting in before Dan could finish what he was saying
Every time all I see is slightly older Tim Heidecker.
Thank you for the interview, John, but constantly interrupting Dan is not a good look.
Seems mostly helpful that John keeps Dan going in one direction and clarifying comments.
Disagree. Clarifying comments from John made this more clear
@@dflctr Dan was very clear.
