My best friend tells the most meandering stories and loses his original point all the time. My favorite thing he does is he talks about people I’ve never met and he’s never even mentioned before as if I’ve known them my whole life. Like, “So I went to tell Julie about the issue at work and I forgot about her divorce so I asked why she was in a bad mood and if I could help, but then she started crying, which, I mean when Julie’s crying it’s bad, right?!” And I’m sitting there thinking, “I didn’t even know you worked with a Julie.” But I love listening to him go on and on. It tickles me every time and I find myself getting excited when he goes off on a particularly labyrinthine series of side stories, because it’s just so him. I think maybe it’s the fact that the GF in the story expects him to follow along. I think he should give her a playful hard time about it when she does it and eventually it’ll be an inside joke between them.
My wife is the same as the first question and I can see the absolute boredom on my friends and families faces when she starts telling them a long story with no context or connection to anything
Bert Kreischer had a great idea for a podcast called "Let Me Tell Your Story" where he would have bad storytellers on and tell their stories in an interesting way.

Women need to understand that guys don't like irrelevant details. Just get to the point. Our brain is wired to provide solutions and yours wired to vent to no end. I want to help you solve it so I never have to hear this story again and you just want to talk about the same thing everyday.
And don't whine to me about something that you will do nothing to change. It often seems they don't actually want a problem fixed, they want to whine about it.
I've found the the best way to deal with long winded stories is to react to events as she's telling them. It makes her feel like you're engaged and she doesn't expect as huge a response from you at the end. If you let her ramble and then wait to reply at the end, she'll expect you to give an opinion on every little detail. But if you bounce it back and forth a bit with small replies then it's not as bad

You really shouldn't have the mentality of someone who thinks every problem should be solved with "Hammer". Despite what the media has been feeding you, most men aren't dumb, loud, blunt instruments and it is ok to use your brain when solving other people's problems who live life differently than you.
Oh right, but to spell it out and to be as direct as a blunt force instrument, i listen to a situation and I tend to give advice befitting the person, not always what I would do. People who smoke weed often times either have deep personal demons or can't handle life unfiltered and if a boring conversation makes this man question whether or not to deal with a woman, he probably fits under the latter. If I told him to handle it how I would in my personal life, he'd be single for 10 years cuz if I find a story boring, I got no qualms about walking away, pulling out a gameboy, or stopping the person midsentence and asking them if there's a point to all this, because I have low patience. This guy, couldn't handle being so honest so I won't give him advice that's too hard for him to do.

I had a friend like that. I could tell him a joke that lasted less than two minutes. I would hear him retell it to someone and it lasted seven minutes with all the extra information he would add, trying to make a funny joke funnier. His joke would bomb. .

As for the guy writing about his girls wanting plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is very expensive, especially good plastic surgery, so unless shes swimming in money and can fly out to the better plastic surgeons then you dont have much to worry about. Its probably just a phase because shes young. But, with that being said, if she were to plastic surgery in places she think would help her look better then its DEFINITELY better to do it when you're younger and your skin which is an organ is better suited for recovery.

I know many people who just yak, yak, and are not story tellers. They talk about the incidental crap, rabbit holes that have absolutely nothing to do with their original story.... I tell them (often repeatedly) to please stay on point ! You ever do that ? After, which, I avoid them. Mostly guys are like, few words (brevity is king), get to the point, next subject. Simple. I had a friend like this...the stories were not unorganized, but he would just talk for 20 minutes straight about a topic that has nothing to do with what I'm interested in, and also didn't allow comments, because it's rude to "interrupt". We're not friends anymore. Like if I'm speaking to someone I at least make sure the other person has at least a bit of interest/entertainment. Or if I just want an advice, then I make it as short as possible and get straight to the point, so that after we can continue on a topic we both are okay with.
I work with a long-winded coworker. I’m a female and I’m ready jump out a window. I’ve often wondered how her husband takes it. Sometimes when she inhales to speak, I say I’m swamped and I better get back to my office.

My girlfriend is really annoying too. We dont have conversations she talks and I ignore her. But she is the kind of talker that will just keep talking wether i can hear her or not. When i try to tell her something she alwas interupts me with something totally irrelevant but to her is relevant. She tries to finish my sentences but is completely opposite of what I was trying to say. She will ask me a question then keep talking so i cant even answer it. She also wont stay on topic at all. When she interrupts me to say something, when she is done she wont apologize and tell me to continue.
Just walk away and leave her to talk to herself, you are clearly interrupting her very important self conversations. Seriously though, just walk out of the room when she does this, she’ll want to find out why and that’s when you just say that you don’t stick around when you clearly aren’t part of the conversation.
As a LAYDEE, I too cannot tell a story to save my life. I laugh while trying to tell it. I can’t remember names. But I can recognize that and understand that I talk too much.
My girlfriend does this too when telling stories and I've told her how much it annoys me. To her credit my comments annoy her but she has been trying to cut it down. Men and women just communicate differently, they're empathetic listeners and communicators and we (for the most part) just want the facts. Tell me what's going on and why you want me to know this.
No, I just want a good story. I love the details, but that doesn't mean I want to be bored. Also, don't come up to me with your overlong story when I'm designing a skyscraper and expect me to listen. Jaysus.
Many are empathetic, others are simply self absorbed. They're trying to download their emotional experiences onto everyone they encounter and feel entitled to large amounts social bandwidth. They're so addicted to attention, they've never even considered that what they have to say simply isn't valued by others.
I know my man tunes me out, so I've become very good at editing myself. I keep it short and sweet. Most of the time if I think about whether or not something is worth saying, it's not.
Ya gotta break up with her. The longer you stay with her the crazier she'll drive you. It doesn't matter how good looking she is, or how much money she makes. The longer you stay with her the more it's gonna grind on you and you'll be miserable.

As for the guy writing about his girls wanting plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is very expensive, especially good plastic surgery, so unless shes swimming in money and can fly out to the better plastic surgeons then you dont have much to worry about. Its probably just a phase because shes young. But, with that being said, if she were to plastic surgery in places she think would help her look better then its DEFINITELY better to do it when you're younger and your skin which is an organ is better suited for recovery.
Contempt is not a silly reason to break up with someone. She should be amenable to Bill's advice about trading notes about being a better listener for pointing out all the fat and excess on her stories.

I tell them (often repeatedly) to please stay on point ! You ever do that ? After, which, I avoid them. Mostly guys are like, few words (brevity is king), get to the point, next subject.

I had a friend like this...the stories were not unorganized, but he would just talk for 20 minutes straight about a topic that has nothing to do with what I'm interested in, and also didn't allow comments, because it's rude to "interrupt". We're not friends anymore.
Like if I'm speaking to someone I at least make sure the other person has at least a bit of interest/entertainment. Or if I just want an advice, then I make it as short as possible and get straight to the point, so that after we can continue on a topic we both are okay with.

My girlfriend is really annoying too. We dont have conversations she talks and I ignore her. But she is the kind of talker that will just keep talking wether i can hear her or not. When i try to tell her something she alwas interupts me with something totally irrelevant but to her is relevant. She tries to finish my sentences but is completely opposite of what I was trying to say. She will ask me a question then keep talking so i cant even answer it. She also wont stay on topic at all. When she interrupts me to say something, when she is done she wont apologize and tell me to continue.

As a LAYDEE, I too cannot tell a story to save my life. I laugh while trying to tell it. I can’t remember names. But I can recognize that and understand that I talk too much.

My girlfriend does this too when telling stories and I've told her how much it annoys me. To her credit my comments annoy her but she has been trying to cut it down. Men and women just communicate differently, they're empathetic listeners and communicators and we (for the most part) just want the facts. Tell me what's going on and why you want me to know this.
No, I just want a good story. I love the details, but that doesn't mean I want to be bored. Also, don't come up to me with your overlong story when I'm designing a skyscraper and expect me to listen. Jaysus.
Many are empathetic, others are simply self absorbed. They're trying to download their emotional experiences onto everyone they encounter and feel entitled to large amounts social bandwidth. They're so addicted to attention, they've never even considered that what they have to say simply isn't valued by others.

My wife is very long winded, she repeats herself and makes it hard for me to comment. I believe it's her way of avoiding criticism. The longer she talks, the less likely she'll FEEL criticized. I'd bet this woman has a bigger issue that she's avoiding.

I am also a get to the point kinda person. What I find fascinating is that the stereotype is that most men are the same, they want the bullet points of a story and yet, so many men like Jordan Paterson. Who, in my opinion is the most overpaid culprit of not getting to the point. Takes the guy 45 minutes to say one thing and that one thing is usually "clean your room."
