      In short, the original UM2 feeder is not fantastic, it is a bit underpowered and gets a bit too hot for PLA, so the Titan is a upgrade in perfomance in that part. (The UM2+ feeder is a totally different story)
      About the hotend... i dont really see the point of swapping to a E3D V6 unless you are using your printer exclusively for ABS and higher-temp engineering plastics and want to be able to run up to 300C, since the high-temp performance is about the only thing i see as better with the V6.
      I would just suggest to upgrade your UM2 with a Olsson block if you have not already done that, and then fit the TFM coupler and rigid spacer from the UM2+ and a E3D Titan as a feeder if you want to upgrade on the cheap and you will be printing with filaments in the

      *****, swap the coupler for the TFM and the rigid spacer from the UM2+, and it will last a LOT longer (like 5 times longer or so), and it is about the same price as the original coupler.

    Thomas, nice video as always, but is an upgrade worth it? How does the E3D v6 hotend and Titan extruder compare to the ultimaker 2+ upgrade kit? I have a stock Ultimaker 2 extended and have been pretty happy with it.

    Just an FYI, parts from the latest production run (Feb 2017) differ from the ones shown here.
    TIP: Install the extruder motor cable BEFORE you install the motor. It is a pain in the a$$ to do afterwards. I actually ended up removing the motor, installing the cable, and putting it all back together.
    5:02 Attach cable using plug orientation, not what wire is closest to the others.

    Do you have any videos on nozzle size selection and printer setup? You seem to have a wealth of knowledge and I'm new to this and trying to learn as much as possible. I was wondering why choose one nozzle size over another and what the benefits of 1.75mm filament vs. 3mm are? Thank you for the informative videos!

    • @erikcederb
      @erikcederb 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we take it to the simplest level possible, a larger nozzle = faster print with lower detail & smaller nozzle = slower print with higher detail.

    • @erikcederb
      @erikcederb 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stainless steel ones have terrible thermal performance, i personally have not used the ones i bought a year ago from E3D more than a few times because of the bad printing experience. The hardened steel ones are supposed to be better tough...

    E3D have uploaded their files to Thingiverse (thing:1934309). What is the difference between the mount for the 1.75mm hotend and the 3mm hotend? Because I have the 1.75mm hotend but on their website it says "1.75mm coming soon"... Does that mean the Kit incl. 1.75mm hotend instead of the 3mm hotend is coming soon?. Just a little confused here...

    • @OhhYeeeah
      @OhhYeeeah 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Sanladerer thanks, does it matter if I print it in PLA or ABS? I don't think I'll be printing above 280°C as I know the hotend stays pretty cool up top even when printing in ABS.

    Partcooling fans / air flow are not positioned well...
    -> use radial fans and air flow pointed towards the tip of the nozzle
    Also the bowden coupler of the E3D V6 is hard to reach throu the carriage assembly
    Some stuff E3D does is awesome the rest just average

    • @Chaosstifter87
      @Chaosstifter87 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok then this kit should fix the most annoying weaknesses of the UM2

    • @Adikimenakis
      @Adikimenakis 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that using radial fans will be much better in terms of airflow, but i found out that the airflow is sometimes too much if your z-axis is close to the bed. Then the reflected airflow from the bed can affect your head!! And my radial fans cannot rotate when the speed is set below 27%...

      i meaned, that id love it if it would be aviable in 1.75, because i like ultimaker, and most people dont want do buy it because of the 3mm filament

    • @taha112498
      @taha112498 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, most people prefer 1,75mm because of the bigger material options. But you have to keep in mind that the ultimaker is a bowden feed printer, so 3mm works out much better than 1,75mm because of the stiffness.
      So I wouldn't downgrade my ultimaker or any other bowden machine to 1,75mm

      Dalemoooooon It would not be too hard to do, you would just have to print some new pieces to hold the linear bearings and a holder for the Titan feeder.
      And if you have a non-plus UMO you might also want to mod it to run from a 24V supply and add a E3D pt100 amplifier to get optimum performance.

    • @erikcederb
      @erikcederb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite simple, it is a e3d paid tutorial on how to install the kit, not a review video...
      I would recommend the 2+ upgrade over this for anyone not going to print mainly/exclusively in high-temperature materials (250-300C print temperatures)
