  • Does every Titan need to be big? Turns out E3D's big guy does a great job even when used in its smallest configuration!

    Note to North American viewers that may not consider it:
    1200 grit European sandpaper is somewhere between 600-800 grit US standard. Just in case you didn't want to spend all day polishing your rod ;)

    Thanks for the video .. Because of your input, I went ahead and replaced my broken (bad parts) Wade with the Titan / E3D and I am truly happy with the results .. On my third print and what a difference , even kicked up the speed a bit on my P3 Steel .. Keep up the great work ..

    The ultra-flashy (literally) text clashes with your no-nonsense presentation. I guess it would make sense for emphasising something that's important and all too easy to miss (rather like italics in a document), but there have to be batter ways of doing that.
    Other than that, an interesting, clear and informative video as ever - thank you!

    Superb video as always Tom, you always manage to give us that extra titbit. In this case the use of a smaller lighter motor.
    I already have the Titan and got a powerful motor at the same time. Doh! But since I haven't installed the Titan yet, I've just ordered a small 13 nM one to make it lighter.
    Huge thanks as always mate.
    Keep up you superb videos.

    Top vid 👍
    Did you try 3mm filament ?
    My idler cannot open far enough to release the pressure for manual fillament feeding of 3mm filament.
    Due to the idler lever interfering with the extruder body.
    Just wondering if this happens to yours too ?

    Sorry If I sound like a broken record but:
    I love the idea of changing the nozzle and extruder assemblies since it gives me the flexibility of trying out different brands. What printer would make sense as a bed for this kind of operation? I know you use the modified mendel for what I am saying but what off-the-shelf printer works for this application? Thanks for the video!

      +carolcheny OK I take it back. The filament inserts just fine, the problem is my tube. I'm happy with it. Very loud when it backup, though.

    • @carolcheny
      @carolcheny 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rostock uses a couple of different motors, mine is the one that's not the default. Rostock is bowden like all delta printers. I was using volcano .8mm nozzles at one point and it didn't seem to have problems but I can't really tell because .8mm print quality really sucked i never adjusted to get it acceptable.

    I don't know if I would consider the flashing white text a improvement. Maybe if you narrate them with a mortal combat voice that says "super bold move!" :-)

    Hey Thomas, I have been using the Titan with a similar mount setup ( I copied you basically because it was easy ). and I'm using the same motor as you. I'm using it on a robo3d and its been working flawless..but I never checked the heat of the motor. Someone on the robo3d forum mentioned it got SUPER hot.. i just touched mine during a print and yea its really hot!.. I can't remember if the stock nema motor got this hot.

    Tom,
    As always, great video. You mentioned this would be a good solution for mounting the extruder to printers that might not have been possible with heavier setups. Would you say this is something that might work well on a delta printer, or is that still too much weight to throw around?

    I have a Monoprice Maker Select v2 which I'm using to print PLA. I plan on printing the majority of my prints in PLA (and related plastics) for quite some time (I might stray into ABS here and there). My main interest in printing is landscapes for myself (I'm a geologist) and friends/colleagues. So, speeds and resoltuion are always nice. I'm considering upgrading my hot end and extruder from the stock version to Micro Swiss all metal hotend, E3D's v6, or E3D Titan, but I cannot find many comparisons. From looking at your other videos, I'm guessing it all boils down to money and creature comforts. Is this correct? Is there a valid way to compare these hot ends and extruders?

  • @sierraecho884
    @sierraecho884 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really wish they would update this extruder. A single geared extruder with at least 3:1 gear ratio with a big drive wheel which is also light small and cheap would be the best system for 99% of all FDM 3d printers. Dual gear has meshing problems and adds weight + cost while a bigger drive wheel increases contact with the filament and this would be by far the cheapest way to make such an extruder.

    Off specific topic of your video, but an Extruder Question. My Tevo Tornado with the stock factory Extruder has stopped feeding filament. I just got my Titan Friday and finishing up a mount for it to try out on my CoreXY machine. I was wondering though in regards to the weight when using a pancake motor, would this be light enough to use as a direct drive on a Delta effector? I was planning on doing a flying one, but if it was light enough, I prefer direct.

    So, this extruder handles 3mm filament with a 1:3 ratio, and a pancake nema 17, while the lulzbot mini uses a full nema 17 and a 1:5 ratio, which is confusing me. In your making your own 3D printer video about extruders, you said that 3mm filament needs gearing. Please help by explaining something that I'm not getting. I am doing research for making my own printer, that will use 3mm because I have a lulzbot mini, and want to understand everything going into the design. So, how does this extruder have the torque for 3mm filament is really where I'm messed up due to the motor and ratio.

    Really glad I watched this as I am just assembling a genuine E3D Titan Aero, and did wonder if I had done something wrong when fitting the filament guide inside the extruder because I had to fiddle around to get the filament to go down into the head. The black plastic guide had slipped out while I was putting it together, and was found under my desk !!!!! Your video showed just that possibility and gave me the hint as to what my problem was, so I stripped it down again and presto, with th guide back in place, it loads flawlessly.

    To ask does this come with a hotend? If it does, what is the max temp? if not, does anyone know a good hotend which goes well with it?

    I bought an Aero Titan extruder and I am having so many issues with it. I am having so many jamming issues, about every other 12hr print, the heat break gets jammed with plastic, to the point where I need to take the heater block off. I do not know what is wrong, if anyone has any comments I would love to hear them!

      Baird Bankovic I hope you have had it resolved by now, but if you still have the issue, were you assembling the hotend per the instructions? Your issue is symptomatic of an E3D v6 nozzle that is not tightened with the hotend at 285°C per the instructions.

    How much does the retired Wade's weigh with the pancake stepper? It has a higher gear ratio. To stay in the reprap tradition couldn't you get most of the performance from a modified Wade's like www.thingiverse.com/thing:221082 using a teflon guide tube and a shallow hob on the M8 bolt. I imagine someone could design a 3:1 gear set to keep stepper rpm down when using a volcano hotend.

    Why not just use bowden setup? For price of e3d titan you can get bowden setup with beefy nema 34.
