I mean to take absolutely nothing away from any other musician on stage with Henrik, but sometimes I swear that half the reason Dirty Loops is so popular is because they actually have the balls to let the bass be heavily present in the mix. There are some phenomenal bassists out there, but they're rarely given such a spotlight like this. It's incredible.
I wasn’t expecting that whatsoever!!!!!! Drummer was fantastic, vocalist was great but that dang bassist was freaking awesome!!!!! Definitely get more Dirty Loops my friend!!!!!! Your reaction was absolutely priceless 😳😳😳 😊😁😂🤣😂
The musicianship of all of these guys (including Cory Wong and his Hornheads) is off the charts. I think the thing that makes Dirty Loops, Cory Wong, and Vulfpeck so amazing and tight is that none of them allow their ego to get in the way. They're all highly technical and gifted musicians, they all know it, and they all genuinely respect eachother's abilities and they all truly like each other. You can see the joy on their faces when they play and it's infectious. And Grace Kelly's stank face is everything.
Quincy Jones is just their manager though. They produce their songs themselves, together with Simon Petrén. I heard one of them say, in an interview, that they don’t send Quincy anything, not even demos, until it’s completely finished. They’re mad as hatters and it’s utterly brilliant. 😁
@@markprater1 I'm sure it's made as an MJ tribute, and is supposed to sound a bit like him, but if you ask me it doesn't sound like it actually IS an MJ sample, but rather something they've created in some other way. And even if it is a real sample, it doesn't change the fact that QJ isn't their producer in any way. He's still just the manager. I'm sure they could have gotten a sample either way, if that is what it is.
Work Shit Out, Rock You, and Breakdown, are all must listens! There's so much musicality going on but yet it manages to retain that pop accessibility. To me they show that you can write complex music and still have be grooving and fun and catchy, reminds me a lot of how dense someone like Prince's music was etc
In terms of musical arrangement, I think Next To You is a better pick than Work Shit Out. Work Shit Out shows their musical skill well, but I think Next To You was just written better (the way it spans genres too). Either song is great though! Don't get me wrong. Breakdown and Rock You are also awesome!
Great reaction. You MUST do more Dirty Loops. They've got such epic material and you'll love all of it. I suggest "Work Sh!t Out", "Rock You", and "Next to You" in particular. I loved the way you grooved with this. They always leave you wanting more. Also, the credits can sometimes be long, but they're worth reading because they put some funny stuff in them quite often. No one is prepared for Dirty Loops on first listen! Insane skills as a 3-piece then add in Cory Wong with the rhythm guitar and the horn section... it just gets better!
WORK SHIT OUT is the definite Dirty Loops track. Just the three of them (no Cory Wong, no horns - don't need them!!!). Super track, highlights every member - will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!
Just in case you didn't know, they actually recorded this in two separate studios on different continents with the same sets and cameras. When you see Corey and everyone "reacting" to the Dirty Loops guys- they're not actually there, and vice versa. Absolutely stunning visual production on this, not to mention the monster musicians.
That's bonkers. I guessed it wasn't a single take with a few overdubs here and there but I assumed they were at least in the same room. That makes this even more impressive.
@Dirtyloops are all incredible. Henrik is truly a bass genius but let's not forget the immense talent both drummer and keyboardist have. So so tight. Insanely talented all of them.

I asked my guru cos I love the ending....this is his take.
It's an inverted pedal tone (our Jacob loves these n is a total master of them). Basically it's where the highest voice is static whilst the harmony changes underneath, as opposed to the (arguably) more common technique of chord changes over a static bass.
Chords are mostly pretty simple but it's their relationship with the highest voice (F#) that's the interesting bit and the transition from the home key E min to the destination key G# min.
From the E min home key, the lead vox notes that lead into the key change are B ('Follow'), then D ('The'),
'Liiiight' (which is a high F#).
So for the key change and underneath the F# lead vox note you've got the following chords:
Bmaj/D#
Bmaj
Cmaj7 (#11 #15)
C#min 11
D#min 11
G#min 11
Then the melody changes around the vox notes..D# E D# C# B G#
whilst the chords are :
C#min7
D#min7
Emaj
G#min7
F#maj
F#sus
F#maj
G#min
Some of these chords at the end are kind of implied, as they stop n break off into the riff but you get the drift.
