      Saw AIC and Pearl Jam in the same night. Unfortunately sound garden wasn’t there. With that said……ice cube and beastie boys were there.
      And………I left early of the closer, beastie boys, Because I was spent……12 hours of sun and debauchery! Had to beat the parking lot!

      There were a lot of badass combos back then. Alice & Chains, Stone Temple Pilot's, PRIMUS, Smashing pumpkins, NiN, Limp Bizkit, POWERMAN 5000, TOOL Pantera, White Zombie, Monster Magnet, Rage Against the Machine who NEVER came to Kansas City...
      I remember sitting around with friends and trying to imagine THE BEST line-up for a show...most combos we knew would NEVER happen until 1 day they did. PANTERA & WHITE ZOMBIE AT MEMORIAL HALL in KCK.
      PRIMUS KNOWS Kansas City loves them, they keep returning & its awesome. GLASS ANIMALS are learning this too.

      Michael Bolten?...😂😂😂
      You know what all kidding aside he's in a totally different genre but I would love to hear him sing Temple of the Dog with Eddie Vedder. I would just roll over and fall off my chair if I could actually see those two sing. I know it sounds like a joke but who the hell else could hit Chris Cornell notes other than Michael Bolton!
      Just imagine Eddie Vedder singing "I'm going hungry......" and then Michael Bolton comes in; :I'm going hungry....YEAHHHHHH!"😅

Thank you to Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana (though not pictured), and EVERYONE involved with the grunge / hard rock scene in Seattle and elsewhere the '90s (I think of STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Failure, Hum, The Jesus Lizard, and more). You mean more than all of y'all could know. Y'all are what I return to, a musical norm that I will always know will be there. To Chris, Layne, Kurt, Andrew Wood, Mike Starr, and so many other silenced voices from vice, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ART!!! doesnt matter how many songs of layne singing live, there is no one who can control their voice while belting out this heavy like he was able to. u see all kinds of singers get to a certain range when their voice levels raise, it was otherworldly. people talk about how he would have blown out his voice etc from the singing style but im not sure that would have been the case, when you look at his contemporaries from back then, even at that younger age they still couldn't hit anywhere close to those notes. wild to witness such a level of mastery. so many singers today have the ability to hide behind technology to fix levels.

    This video is everything. Dirt gets a ton of love, as it should. Dirt is one of the greatest albums ever made in the history of history. With that said, Facelift is probably better than anything 95% of bands will ever make. Facelift- Jar Of Flies is simply perfection. That’s taking nothing away from Tripod and the Duvall era because they’re all great, but that 4-5 year span is so insanely good very few artists can even begin to touch it.

    • @foto21
      @foto21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Layne's vocal performamce on Love Hate Love here and on Facelift is up there with Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury. Layne is unique though. He has the perfect melding of tenor and baritone, and seems to sing in both at the same time because his voice is such a freight train for an average size guy. Cornell is so good, and then you hear the beefy thickness of Layne's gutteral growling, plus the emotion with which he delivers vocals is off the charts. Must've been a lot to try to match that the rest of your life, but hey. People were not exaggerating about Layne and this proves it.
