Absolutely, the timing and feel and rhythm, it’s all feeling. I’m sure they played this song in a practice space a thousand times and when you hit the stage and do an unplugged it’s so different. It could have not worked at all. But they just nailed it so right. Not even one of my favorite songs tbh but it’s so impressive how good they sound. This goes down in history as (as far as I’m concerned, mtv did a good job too) the best unplugged ever. But I’m biased and based. And nostalgic. And the opposite of sober at the time of this writing, so feel free to rip me apart in the comments 🤘

Yes they did have a close friendship, regardless of what a lot of people say. They did not tour to promote albums when Layne was struggling with his addiction and was reclusive. They missed a lot of opportunities during that time. Layne was respected by his mates. After he passed AIC went into an enforced hiatus.

Truly. Same with Mad Seasons live performance. I like it even more than original . In this Unplugged, all these versions save maybe one or two are my favorites. I've got a pretty high $ system in my truck and I've got one set of saved tunes on my eq especially for acoustic music, and in every single one of these songs there is so much detail. I struggle sometimes to think its all real lol. Its insane the amount of musical depth they make with just their instruments . Excuse the nerd reference here, but its like the musical equivalent of Lord of the Rings. You watch it over and over and keep finding more and more details you didn't notice before. The tones Jerry and Layne use when they harmonize are extremely unique and have such an incredible blend. Il listen over and over and focus in on ones voice or one of the guitars and its like endless little gems. Its hard to articulate properly. When i hear folks compare to Nirvana or whoever i just get a kick out of it. They may be more popular to some , but they dont come close on the musical depth and level. Once you have an ear for picking out the variations, Nirvana can almost sound boring. AiC is untouchable

for example,a jazz fan can now show you an example of songs with variations and complexity that will make this sound very simple but that won't mean anything cause it's not about that music was made for everyone to appreciate and love so you don't need to know music or have a developed ear to love a song and appreciate it

The way Jerry leads this band. Giving Layne the look of approval. Telling him it’s ok when he messes up. You can tell Jerry and Layne were more like brothers, they loved one another. Even Mike the base player looks to Jerry for assurance during nutshell. What happened to Layne is just horrific. Weighing 80lbs, no teeth, no friends, no family in the end. Just isolation and addiction. It’s a goddamn shame because there will never be another voice like Laynes. Simply brilliant

It s so strange.... It s like Layne was there only at times... And you could see in his expressions, that at other times he was already away... But when he was there, his voice still gave me shivers.... I come from the 80s metal school, where singers had those high voices... Layne was the first singer, in Rock music, to expand my mind about, how one can sing in Rock music.... His tone made the difference, the pain in his words translated with melodies... And, let s face it, even here, where he was evidently not completely present, his stage presence is great... He was like a some kind of presence in the middle of a buddies group... Alice in Chains were an extraordinary band ( I know they still go on, but without Staley, it s not the same band to me)
