This sounds like a dream even for content creators on the go with the SSD port
Stoked, just received my OneX Egpu for OneXplayer 2 and 2 pro.
I really, really hope that the Steam Deck 2 has eGPU support. I know there’s other handhelds that do this but I really like the Steam Deck.
As FSR gets better I don't think we will really need EGPU's as much in the future.
This actually looks even more interesting for productivity, rather than just gaming. It’s compact enough for average bags and won‘t bloat your laptops main body or tank it’s battery, if you don’t need the GPU. Also the SSD is a big plus
Also the sgwzone zone egpu is crowd funding
Interesting price too...$800
I just received mine and it's very compact and not that heavy.
2:31 they're not x8! Only x4!
X8 OCULINK exists, but it is twice as wide!
Agreed And you need x8 slot or 2 x4 m. 2 slots on a motherboard that support pcie splitting convert to oculink 8i unless it has a
8i port
So video is misleading, right?
@@SharedAccount-yz9zb The numbers are correct, though it misses the latency caused by TB going through the CPU whereas oculink is a direct motherboard link.
I absolutely love this concept.
Can't wait to see the big screen handheld review.
This OneXPlayer 3 in 1 is looking better and better every time I see it.
Love the content man . I would love to see the oculink vs USB 4 performance differences. I bought the minisforum um760pro and it doesn't have oculink only USB 4. The RDNA 3 760M oc to 3.1 ghz no problem but the 8 Cu compared to its bigger brother with 12 is a little slow. Also test those out against eachother to ETA .
I have the UM780 XTX so thank you for testing it in the video!
Nice ! It would also be nice if you make that video on that project you said you have been working on and on how we could build our own external GPU with that RTX 4060 / Pico power supply and Oculink support , thanks .
The way you just appear on the left side, then the right… it’s like magic 😮
Timestamp?
I have been using Rog Xg Mobile 3080 for nearly three years. I truly believe that portable eGpu will be the future of mobile computing. It gives the users options to bring laptops alone or laptop with eGpu for more performance. Hope there will be more big brands embraced this concept.
I agree, I really hope they become less expensive in the future
Ya, gaming laptops can't run on battery with the GPU running at any meaningful level. My Razer 17 gets 30 min of battery life (2080 super) at half the plugged in perofrmance. With iGPUs being so good, laptops should ditch the extra bulk, weight, and complications of a dGPU in the laptop chassis and should use things like this as a fatty power brick instead to get high gaming performance.
@@MrHamncheez wow, combining the power brick + egpu would be absolutely genius, if they could keep thermals in check. Maybe some dope copper passive cooling heatsink setup inside. Idk, but I love the idea
@@r00fus_d00fus its actually easier to cool the Asus XG Mobile or this OneXGPU than cooling a laptop because it can be thicker, and the intake vent isn't on the bottom (like a laptop)
@@MrHamncheez I meant if we combined this type of setup into the powerbrick, removing the need for the dGPU in the laptop chassis, having it built into the powerbrick design
Looking forward to mine arriving to pair with my surface pro and minisforum um780 xtx via oculink
Thas's a very compact gaming system, another great review ETA
Remember that the PCIE bandwidth gap is even larger than listed since there is a bunch of dedicated bandwidth for non PCIE use in TB.
These things are really cool and I'd love to have one but they're SO EXPENSIVE! Especially after having purchased a $800-$1000 handheld. I hope they become more affordable eventually
Idk how much more affordable you can expect for a full, convertible gaming desktop.
@@bluddywulf6796 I mean the mobile GPU itself isn't that expensive. Since these are niche it is like 400% Markup.
For 1600$ you have a powerful portable machine. You can’t buy the same laptop for these money. So its cheap.
Very good video thanks, and very interesting device! I'm curious to see the performance of this connected to a some more modern handheld pc running SteamOs with AMD Ryzen 7 7840u.
this is like an ultimate dock. really nice, a lot of ports, even m2 slot lol)
Looks like a pretty cool device and useful if you have a igpu and no dgpu in your device. I've got the Intel Arc a770m, so I won't be needing this for a while, but for future updates, depending on the price, it can be interesting.
Cant wait till mine comes in.. would love to see a review paired with the legion go.
I know I've been wanting a legion go and then I seen this device the Onex
Does it supporr 4k 120?
And whats the best resolution it supports?
Would be nice to see 4k resolution results too
Nice for productivity on the go
TB/USB4 benchmarks? Would be great to compare to OcuLink performance... the GPD G1 doesn't show much difference between the two at any wattage. I'd imagine it's the same here but would be great to see for sure. I've been using USB4 exclusively because of this, and because hotplugging is so much more convenient.
the power of ( HEEEEEEEEY ) at first is dopealways got me lol :DD
I was going to buy a laptop, but I think I want this instead, paired with the one x player tablet/pc. 😍 Thanks for the review. 👍
Looks incredible! It’s a shame we can’t use this with the ROG Ally.
GPD G1 eGPU vs ONEXGPU comparison would be really nice
Can you test the UM780XTX + ONEXGPU combo with SteamOS ??
It comes down to price for me. Great set up but I feel you can get more power for your money when it comes to an egpu set up. Thanks for the review.
How loud is the ONEXGPU under load? Is it quieter than the GPDG1? I don't think noise was covered in the video?
Would be very interesting to see how well it performs using only the USB-4 cable together with a Thunderbolt 4 enabled laptop
I have OneXplayer Mini Pro and its gonna help me !
Oculink has been a thing for a while. The main reason why it's superior to TB4, other than the PCIe generation upgrade, is that it's a direct PCIe uplink, rather than a shared link with PCIe and USB. It's also very simple, making it somewhat more cost effective on both the laptop and eGPU side (granted, this is mainly in production, not necessarily in cost for the consumer)
Thank you sir!!!
Could you show the ingame setting before you benchmark, because I want to verify
I've always found egpu's fascinating, i just don't know if they make sense in 2024. Let's say 5-10 years ago, desktop and laptop configurations had a massive difference in performance. A decent dedicated gpu would set you back alot and on top of that the portability would be sacrificed, so an egpu would be good solution. You have a portable laptop for light work and media on the go and more performance at home or in the office with the egpu. But now days you have options for relatively slim and decently priced rtx4060-70 laptops with almost desktop like performance so unless you have older laptop and you don't want to upgrade i see no reason why you'd want to have 3 separate devices on the table and tons of cables for the same performance.
I want i eGPU-Dock and a Mini PC with the same dimensions…is stackable and looks more professionell.
I'm very interested to see the power brick required for the eGPU. That is critical to determine how useful it will be as a compact GPU for travel.
It weighs about 30 kgs size of a watermelon.... U can travel with it but you might need a trolley
I'm very interested to see my girlfriend this weekend 🥰
Can you make a performance comparison between oculink and usb4? I'm thinking of getting this for the legion go
I was think as you because I already have it, but Lenovo Legion Go doesn’t have a oculink port 😢
So the onX handheld is a full fat win11 laptop? Does it have a sim card slot?
great innovation!
Correcting some information, usb4v1 on amd systems have pcie x4 4.0 but that's theoretically the same with pcie x8 3.0 so it's ok, still bound by the 40Gbps limit though
Waiting for usb4v2/tb5 this year!
i'm really interested in this configuration but really want to know about thermal situation in real life use case scenario e.g. long session of gaming (4-6hrs) hopefully in 28c room temp.
and the more common usb4 result would be nice too
Do you keep your room at 28°C?
Please test this egpu with the legion go. Backed it myself and would like to see how the 40gb limited bandwidth of USB4 affects the performance. Thanks.
Add 10% bottleneck and that is about the performance you get using USB4 instead of occulink
I wonder if there claim of working 'plug and play even with steam deck' is true 😄
This is amazing, I don't know if this eGPU thing works with Linux. It will be great to have a lightweight laptop for school and work, and when you come back home to play AAA games you only have to plug one or two cables.
For someone who occasionally games, do you suggest a mini pc (with octilink) and a egu (like in vid)?
Seems like ETA Prime forgot to cut this audio part right here😂, 11:48
😂😅
Yes 😂😂
Still waiting for some company to create an eGPU dock that has OcuLink and USB4 with a normal 16x PCIe slot so that we can just slot in any GPU that we have.
Please review the onedock v2. Worlds first tb4 and occulink Dock for any gpu
Wondering if this could improve older hardware if not willing to upgrade yet: NUC Box4, Ryzen 7 GMKTec, Model KB4 with 64 gbDDR4 with only 2 thunderbolt 3 ports and mainly to be used for emulation up to PS3/PS2? 😅
Does this have native support for the OG Steam Deck? I already have an external SSD hooked up to the official dock from Valve but I'd love to give it more horsepower when I'm docked.
Will 80 Gbps USB4 be ready next year?
What is the cheapest thunderbolt laptop that we should test it on?
Super cool💯
Looks good but I want one of these that breaks well past 10k on timespy
can you make one gameplay video with both egpu and portable m.2 nvme ssd with enclosure.
In any of your videos regarding mini pcs and egpu there is one very important piece of information missing. What are the supported Refresh rates of the Ports (display and HDMI), because it is useless having a beefy mini pc but unable to use 165Hz or 240Hz efresh Rate with the attached screens.
Your table made me think my scr😢was cracked 😅😊
Hey Prime would you please test the steam deck egpu pcie thing in VR, I'd really appreciate it 😊❤
Interesting. Will this work on the ROG Ally?
Can you test the M.2 oculink adapter on the 2nd m.2 slot of UM780 XTX.. does it make a difference?
i do wish for steam deck 2 have Oculink
I think this would be good for a mobile workstation or as a dock.
I can't wait for Thunderbolt 5/USB4 v2 to become integrated on the SOC.
It provides 80Gbps bidirectional and 240W power delivery.
Intel missed a golden opportunity with Core Ultra.
Can these small forms factor egpus also act as a docking station for something not egpu compatible? I've been looking at these as I want to use a TB4 handheld as my main desktop, however I also have a steam deck and tab s9 that I use dex for work alot. I'd rather not use a separate dock for the deck and tablet than the egpu handheld. While the egpu functionality may not be there for those devices, it'd be nice to use the same device as a USB hub.
ETA what hardware monitor software are you using?
It would be interesting to see how this would do with a Lenovo Legion Go
Same dumb question here:
Can this be Daisy Chained to another dock ?
Like this:
Monitors --> EGPU --> TB4 Dock --> Notebook
I know this is ridiculous but I just want to know😅
Maybe you could test this?.
Thank you 😊
My question for this new AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT is : can u use Beta drivers with fluid motion frames is it even supported on this small eGpu ?
eGPU is slick until you see the price.
how's the fan noise on egpu? sometimes having a rocket engine fan takes away from the gaming experience
Have you tried this out in any VR applications?
in the end, can we even play with the handheld + egpu witohut any external monitor? it could be an other point of view once the handheld will get old
Legit thought he was showing off a portable charger for a second lol
Can we get a comparison between the XG Mobile and the Oculink egpus?
The oculink connection is PCIe x4 4.0, not x8. Gen4 is 16gbps so it still works out to 64 (63 usable I guess). This is another reason that a gen4 nvme port wouldn’t make sense. I bet it’s not even 4 lanes of gen3.
Can you do a comparison of this vs gpd g1 on same devices and games please? 🤔
please, add some cybersport disciplines to the tests.. CS2, PUBG , APEX LEGENDS.
Thank you for the review, but I honestly dont care at all about oculink simply because if I wanted the bulk I will just use a desktop or a gaming laptop.
I had really hoped we would get an actual test of the device with more modern AAA games, get thermal reading on the case, info about how it handles how strong the back case sticks with its magnets, How comfortable it is to hold and play, and if you can actually charge while playing when its so close to the left controller side.
And please boost the graphics on games, give us the fps under different settings 🙏 not everything has to run on 60 fps on a handheld when all consoles until the current new gen ran games on 30 FPS. I would rather better graphics than running it low to get more FPS for most none competitive games.
I would love to see if you get get away with vr games on this.
I have 1 question about eGPUs :
(For my laptop user friend) Can you use laptop's screen or you have to bring a monitor o TV to use the eGPU ?
You can use the laptop but you lose some performance as the egpu has to send video back via the same cable.
Hopefully you can please test tekken 8. Thanks man.
can you test with egpu oculink rtx4080? that will be intresting :D
A powerful beast GPU in a Xiaomi powerbank like case ? Man this is out of the world❤
Im gonna hook this egpu up with my commodore 64 try to run starfield at 4k extreme settings
How much noise it make when gaming ?
is this better than the XG mobile RX 6850M XT? Given Asus prop. connector?
Wait for strix Halo
I'm sticking to my deck until a minipc with that beast comes
If the Minisforum V3 tablet had an oculink port I would be busting early. I am still rocking a 9700h/1660ti laptop from 2019 whenever I am on the road, Which is about 6 weeks a year. Having a tablet for overseas flights that can play indie games and old AAA titles using a PD charger would be a game changer, then getting to destination and plugging in an eGPU for gaming in the evenings with the power of a regular gaming laptop. Maybe next year theyll have the Strix Halo version with oculink.
@ETAPrime; Is there any way you can test this eGPU with the Minisforum MS-01?
Hello! It would be interesting to see if it works on RogAlly with the oculink adapter. 😀
That's not oculink but some Asus proprietary plug.
If the ASUS has a thuntherbolt 3 or 4, I guess it will work. Oculink is faster but other ports should work.
It's got a usb 3.2 port so it will work, just not optimally.
@@ezg8448 Why use an egpu over a USB 3.2 port? Doing that will equate a total waste of money as the performance you'd get will be a subpar to your normal iGPU.
I'm really new to this... do the egpu needs a computer monitor and not just a handheld.
How do you get the egpu to run on the OneXplayer device itself without any external screen? I have the OneXplayer 2 Pro and the same new egpu.
I would like to see what it can do with the new Asus Zenbook 14
I think the first problem with this type of EGPU is the price, if I need only one external graphics card for gaming with the same budget I can get an RX 7800 XT with an Oculink connection made by myself. This EGPU offers other functions you could tell me, but do those who want to play really need it?
Exactly, for that price you can buy an 7800 xt + an ssd enclosure and it would be cheaper
This definitely eliminates the jank that comes with home made Oculink connections. Sure, you don't "need" it but it also functions as a dock with extra storage. It can be annoying to have to hook up several wires every time you want to game.
So, does new X1 device play these games just fine with out the Egpu?
Has anyone tried using it for VR with the UM780 XTX? I've noticed that by itself the UM780 XTX can do some low end VR, depending on which PCVR game is being played.
When will we get One netbook - one mix 5 review
I could actualy really benefit from
This it’s to bad they are sold out
