I always just put the treadmill on an incline because it allowed me to do the same thing without shortening my hamstrings ....they're already too short
I have to thank you. In high school, I ran track top 3 in my school, and in April of senior year I was hit by a car. My legs and my entire body didn't really want to function. I tried to get back into running, and shin splints happen all the time, making my peace into a chore. Imma try this method, but thank you for giving me the hope that I can run like I used to.
This is what I heard from my patients as a therapist in the hospital. “Heard you came to the hospital bc you fell Mrs Smith? What happened” “I didn’t trip! Who told you that? I just leaned against the wall and then decided to take a seated break on the ground after”
Everyone is doing it wrong. You should only ever use the balls of your feet to walk or run, shoes make this feel weird because we're used to them cushioning our step but that's not how we're supposed to walk. Try it, just walk everywhere like you're barefoot only letting your heels graze the ground but never putting any weight on them, keep your calves and knees engaged at all times. Since you're not used to it you'll only be able to do it for a few minutes at a time to start, but I move everywhere like that now and all my knee problems are gone.
i think this is the default and shoes break it. youre the expert, but from experience every time i wore shoes with raised heels it weakened and stiffened my legs from the ankles and up to the core. i remember using arch support and it gave me flat feet and made it painful to walk. when i switched to flat shoes with no tech whatsoever and little to no cushioning i could feel my calves and ankles stretching and getting worked just walking to school and back for a couple months, by the end i was springy enough to start fencing again. i stopped fencing and went back to regular running/sports shoes with the inclined soles when i got into uni and my legs are stiff as a board again. i miss the sheer explosive strength and cardio i had, those were the days.
@thorish5033 they tought this at my air force boot camp as a way to help prevent shin splints and improve our run time. We even did the falling drill she mentions. So honestly i trust her. They also said to drink 3 glasses of milk per day to get the calcium to help your bones (a multivitamin could also do the trick for less calories).
@@funnysecksnumber6998 It's crazy how shoes are just inherently harmful. They crush our feet. I understand having something under your feet so you don't cut your soles walking barefoot. But I don't understand why they don't just make shoes shaped like actual feet. Our toes are meant to spread out so much more than any shoes, even wide shoes, will let us.
I’ve thought for years about the different ways of running and have adopted different versions due to injuries, shin splints, etc, but have never seen anyone explain it like this. Great stuff.
For me, shin splints comes from being even a little out of practice. When i did running, i practiced every weekday. Very rarely did i get shin splints but if i were to stop running for a more than 4 or 5 days, then i would be guaranteed shin splints and foot pain once i got back to running.
This is actually really helpful! I struggled with painful shin splints last year during track season so I’m definitely going to do this. I also enjoy using treadmills so that’s another plus!
Thank you for this! I constantly struggle with shin splints when starting up running again, and was super focused on where my feet strike rather than this.
This single tip relieved the stress on my shins immediately. I’ve never heard it described this way, running standing straight up caused a lot of stress on this 300 lb body
This is amazing! I keep on screwing up my knees when I’m on the treadmill and know I am running weirdly but honestly have no idea how to run - so thank you, these tips are super helpful!
YOOO Thank you so much for this video. I've always wanted to get into cardio and jogging but always found running so difficult due to how wide my hips are and asthma and previous leg injuries and conditions. And I knew that the way I was running was NOT the way but I didn't know the actual way so thank youuuu I'll try this next time I'm at the gym as I've been wanting to work on doing a 10k for charity ❤
I'm not a runner, but I did get shin splints from hiking. I found flexibility exercises and yoga consistently to help the most with that (for me in that particular scenario).
Game changer. Particularly the hips forward thing. This is what makes the difference for me. Running used to mean all kinds of aches and pains below the knee for me, which would stop me training long before my cardio limits, but now I’m starting to build up time on the treadmill feeling my core and quads doing the work and no pain! Also, thinking about body position and consciously making the effort to correct myself is a good distraction from the minutes ticking by.
I’ve been trying to work on my cardio and starting adding some running in with my time on the treadmill but I’ve been feeling the start of shin splints. Thanks for the tip
I have shin splints no matter how i run. The only time i ever ran without pain was when my physical therapist did some acupuncture and injected some muscle relaxers into my shins. The moment i ran on the treadmill afterwards was life changing. I will never experience that again.
true but it’s hard to heal strike with your feet under you and also hard to midfoot strike with your feet landing in front of you so i think it’s a good form cue
Strong runners are fast runners 💪🥰 join me in The Team Plans App where I coach you through every rep of every set, in real time!
I don’t see any of the running training in the team app 😢
Are you familiar with ATG protocol? It is very specific for addressing lower extremity function and endurance for increased performance
I always just put the treadmill on an incline because it allowed me to do the same thing without shortening my hamstrings ....they're already too short
Strong runners are slow runners too

"No, I did not trip, I caught myself while falling forward."
Yeah, that's what we all tell ourselves.
Hahahahaha

This is what stilt walking is like

I would love more running tips I know I'd love it but I just don't run right lol
Feel that I’m like 24 and everyone I know says I run like I’m 55 with a knee surgery.😅
As long as you don't hurt yourself it's not wrong

I can tell she’s into physics. Lol
I don't know why I read psychotics lol
She’s a mechanical engineer by education/trade.
Nah what's funny about this is my Physical Science teacher is also my track coach 😂 Physical Science is just beginner physics. Pretty sure. Lol
My track coach was apart of the science faculty lol
So what I’m hearing is scientists love running, especially physicists. Got it 😂
As a physical therapist, i second everything she says.

As a doctor for a sports team, I disagree
@@Rrojas200 any alternative suggestions?

Your tibialis anterior is weak, do tibialis raises and the pain will go away
I've been looking for advice on this for awhile. During COVID and college, I just got too busy to go to the gym and kinda forgot how to run.
I really appreciate your videos on form. It’s very helpful to beginning runners like myself! Will you make a video about preventing runner’s knee?
Wow, thank you so much!! People have always told me I run weird, but nobody ever took the time to teach me correctly. That tip was awesome
The bow looks so cute on your hair❤
