  • The Diamonds are the strongest characters in Steven Universe. While initially all four had damaging, devastating powers, each would have a change of heart that left them with much more passive, restoring powers. Pink Diamond was the first, going so far as to change her very self and giving birth to our title character: Steven Universe.
She wasn't the last though: Steven was able to change the other Diamonds' minds, and leave them with a commitment to leaving the universe a better place. Vote Zircon!

Blue Diamonds new power is like psychedelics helping someone feel comfortable so they can confront their trauma from a different perspective. Like backdoor access in coding.

I personally like the diamonds, at least Yellow Diamond and my personal favorite Blue Diamond. Yellow got me into Steven Universe, and Blue got me to believe that the diamonds could change for the better. White Diamond and Pink Diamond are the diamonds that I personally don't like. White is the source of all the problems with the Diamond authority, and Pink just caused too many unnecessary problems and didn't take full responsibility for her mistakes. While it is okay for Steven to not like the diamonds, I feel like he should at least recognize that the diamonds are trying to better themselves. At least Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond, and even White Diamond are making an attempt to change their ways because of their love for Pink Diamond and Steven Universe. If I am being honest, I don't think Pink Diamond changed all that much when she became Rose Quartz, even if she did also change for the better. I think like Blue and Yellow's new powers out of all the changed Diamond powers.

im loooving these deep analytical dives into SU from you! i remember agonizing years ago about how pink diamond contributed to a gem's body. yellow was clearly the body and blue the mind and white the "identity"... but who was pink? pink was the id-- whereas blue+yellow were the ego, and white was the super ego. blue and yellow reflected in the egos of other gems: their vendettas and their longings. white reflected in them as their compulsion to conform. but pink was the rebel?
so when someone said that pink represented the gem, it all made sense. pink was even treated by the other diamonds like a lustrous object, something spoiled and pampered, a source of pride-- like how symbolically a gem on a body is treated. pink was tinier than the other diamonds but she was the "core" of them. she held all their id impulses. she even healed cracked gems. that revelation really floored me with all the layers.
