We had a Japanese exchange student at my Canadian highschool. Her mother almost disowned her when she returned home. She gained 30 pounds living with her host family. Canadian snacks are delicious!

Had a similar thing. Except it was a family that moved over from Japan. And every week they'd by a thing of maple that in my house would last at least 2 months. They just loved it, or its like crack to them.
You need the extra insulation up north. That's my excuse anyways.

If you guys like the maple syrup lollies, you'd love to do a taffy pull. You lay out snow and pour warm maple syrup over it in a thin line, then take a Popsicle stick and roll the cooling syrup around the stick. Sweet, sticky mess. I'm not a huge fan of maple syrup, which may be un-Canadian, as I find it too sweet. Glad you enjoyed the Canadian treats!

I did that one night while I was visiting Quebec for school trip. I was really sick for the rest of the night after that. I can’t even look at real syrup anymore.

It's called "taffy pull"? That doesn't make sense. I don't know what we call it here in Ottawa (maple syrup on a stick?), but "taffy pull" is something you do during the making of taffy. The sugar "dough" is looped and pulled over and over and over again over a long nail, to add air bubbles. That's what makes it "pulled taffy". Or that's my understanding of it.

MINE! he says, I can so agree!! Hickory is related to Walnuts. My late aunt had hickory trees all in her front yard. They smelled amazing in summer the entire tree is aromatic, and the nuts though really hard to crack and containing little nutmeat are simply superior in every way to a walnut for flavour!!

When it comes to Ketchup chips, Old Dutch is where it's at. I'm glad they decided to send you those ones instead of Lays. All the other video I've seen on Canadian Food tests have been Lays and a lot of people don't like them. And they are purple looking, which is of putting.

Can't believe I hadn't seen this video! This person sent you some good stuff. Hickory Sticks are so good. It's true, on a burger they provide wonderful sakutto and smokey flavour. (Smoking meats at home is pretty popular in Canada, or at least in Ontario, and hickory is one of the best woods to use because of the flavours it emparts to the meat).
A pure maple lollipop is the equivalent of a tasty Canadian sugar shack tradition: poor a line of maple syrup on fresh clean snow, let it cool until it starts to get really sticky, then roll it up on a stick and pop it into your mouth for an all natural lolly!
I like the bird's eye presentation of each item. Something that I haven't seen anyone else do. An extra effort that added quality to your show.

wow...I never imagined that people in Japan would like, or even know about maple syrup. It is so cool to see how the world is coming closer together bc of the internet!
Maple syrup is sold in a lot of countries around the world. :) In countries like Japan that have to import maple syrup rather than produce it, it's very expensive to buy, so a lot of people know of it but don't buy much of it.
Tasted all of these except the wine chocolate. I loved watching someone from another culture enjoy the snacks I love as a Canadian.

Oh if I didn't have anything else in this haul I'd want those Maple Syrup cookies. I love those things. I had those when I was a child and the taste was so memorable to me and I loved them so much I have been searching for them ever since. I have never again found them anywhere. Hershey's operated a chocolate bar factory in Smith Falls, Ontario, since beginning operations in Pennsylvania. It catered to the Canadian market, which is one of the few places where butterscotch runs neck to neck with chocolate among women. I enjoy butterscotch toffee myself. I believe the old factory is now used to cultivate medical marijuana.
Crispy Crunch is the last hand-made candy bar and bears little in common with either Babe Ruth or Butterfinger bars from the US.
My favourite potatoe chip is the Poutine Ripple Chip but it's hard to find.
Nanaimo Bars (layered chocolate brownie - custard - chocolate fudge) are not sold as a packaged confection but can be purchased in the baked goods section of most grocery stores. Very popular here.
