    Thanks again for sharing your experience. That was a nice oak log, didn't look green, I assume it was pretty hard. All three saws looked strong. As you know, I am a little biased, but I think the Dolmar sounded strongest in the middle of the cut.

      Ya that oak was yard tree so grew in the open pretty dense stuff.
      I do like the power band of the Dolmar. I can really lean on it and it just keeps cutting. very useful considering I pinch my bar more often than one should. it helps having some grunt to get out of a sticky situation some times.

    living in germany bought a Dolmar 6100 for 420€ at 20 years shop celebration. He had 30x 6100 saws and me and a buddy got the two last one. Everybody loves this saw. Sure it could be lighter but it's very well made. Quality is top notch
    The HUSQVARNA 562 XP is a fine saw too and it's a bit lighter than the 6100 but here were I live, the price for Husqvana is about twice as much. I'm not a professional so I would rather buy two 6100 Dolmar Saws than only one Husqvana

    Where did you get the dual felling dogs on the Dolmar? I own a Makita EA6100P and it can only accept the inner dog. I searched all kinds of aftermarket sights but no one makes them for that saw. Or at least not anymore. I found several blogs about using the clutch cover and dogs off the EA5600F which the European version of the EA6100P comes with the EA5600F inner dog. By switching the clutch cover out which fits fine and is heavier material you can mount the EA5600F outer dog as well. You do have to shorten the chain catch on the EA5600F cover to get it to fit the EA6100. I shortened it with a mini tubing cutter. Your set up looks a hell of a lot easier though. My EA5000P is set up like yours from the factory.

    I have run the 555 and 562, and I thought the 555 was easy to handle and expected (by the numbers) that as power increases so does the noise and vibration. But I was very impressed with the 562. Very solid performance and every bit as smooth as the 555. I appreciate what Husky designed their intent for the555 was, but I truly think the 562 is improved in every way. I wouldn't mind either one, as it turns out.

      @@fuelediowa - you are running the husky too high in it's power band. Get it to it's sweet-spot around 8,000 and lean into it and give it gas. Keep the pressure on it to keep the speed at 8,000. The Dolmar likes to run at higher RPM - like 11,000 - it seems you like that better too so it works better for you - although the 562 was the fastest cutter of the 3..

    I've got a 7900 and a 550xp. I'm stuck between getting a 6100 or a 562xp/2260 and probably selling the 7900. Great saw, just not cutting the huge logs like I used to.
    I love my 550xp, have you ran one of those against the 6100 and or 562?

    • @fuelediowa
      @fuelediowa  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JustonianInstitute I have ran a 550 but not side by side of the 6100 or 562. the 562 has a lot of familiarity with the 550 and if you love the 550 it would be hard not to like the 562. I like the torque/ power band of the 6100 slightly better but that is more of cutting style and feel in hand. I am heavy handed at times. i do like the starting and air filtration a lot better on the 6100.

    • @JustonianInstitute
      @JustonianInstitute 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fueled Iowa thanks man, exactly what I was looking for. One thing I do appreciate about my 7900 besides crazy power is the dead nuts reliability. Always starts after a few pulls, even when hot or cold and just runs all day without fuss. Unlike my 550 which has hot start issues.
      I'm leaning more towards the 6100 for that point plus I don't have to take the saw to a dealer for tuning (firmware) updates on the AT, I can just tune at home.
      Does the 6100 use the same bar mount as the 6400/7300/7900?

    Like what you are doing, but as usual these are "ball" parks as the bar & chain along with other things add a few percentage points here and there, folks can read into these what ever they choose..like the fact you tried to minimize those things, all three are great saw choices.

    • @fuelediowa
      @fuelediowa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, hitting a good knot or two can definitely throw some things off. Also cut speed really is limited to the reality of what truly make a good fit for a saw. Feel, balance, starting, all kinds of things can definitely make one saw feel a lot better than another to use all day and sometimes we can't even tell specifically what that may be. Lol. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a great day.

  • @uni-byte

    A lot depends on how you run your saws. The Dolmar has a slightly bigger displacement and makes it's HP at a higher RPM than the 562xp. If you like that, you cut better with a higher revving saw. I've used 562's for some time - just bought a new one this year and can tell you the latest edition is quite a bit better worked out - but still a lower revving saw for maximum power than the Dolmar. Also, running out of gas would have effected the auto-tune and it would not have been at it's best once you fueled it up again for a few cuts. In any case, if my timing is right (stopwatch) the first cut with the 562xp (12.3s) matched the first cut with Dolmar (12.4s) pretty closely.
    Sorry for sounding like a Husky fanboy, but it seems to be taking quite a beating from this crowd.

    • @fuelediowa
      @fuelediowa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries, I agree running out of fuel would change the tune. I however feel the 562 is the higher reving saw. But I have not ran a tac on one while running it. Feel can be deceiving though. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    • @ImplantedMemories
      @ImplantedMemories 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not true. The Dolmar 6100 got way more torque power at lower rpm's. It's more like a diesel car (just a metaphor). Husqvarna and Stihl saws usually need high rpm's to deliever their cutting performance.

      I have never owned a Carlton so I am not sure how they compare to others. Sugi and Tsumara have a lot better steel. And where a lot better. Oregon is a standard go to but with their prices continuing to go up the more I lean to Tsumara. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. My 6100 is still stock. I will say break in on my 6100 took the longest of any saw I have ever owned. Not sure if it is the read valves or just that tight. It is a bit of a challenge to tune as well. As in hard to tell the difference. I speculate the carb has a higher flow bypass port then most saws. So tunning it in wood is easiest. Best of luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

      @@fuelediowa Welll I sold the 6100. I didnt like the easy start, the plastic clutch cover, and the size and weight. I also have a 562xp and they are much smaller, slimmer. They have the mag clutch cover, regular starter, and it is also lighter. In my preference I definitely would pick the 562xp over the 6100. I run .325 on my 562xp, I installed the small 7 spline clutch drum, a 550xp clutch, and then use Stihl mount D025 bars, plus the bar adapter. Im using a 18" narrow kerf bar, the speed cut aluminum core, really makes the 562 light and a great firewood cutter. I removed the screen from the muffler, and that was it. Wanted to tell you if you like the 6100, a saw you should really try before they are gone is a Makita 6421. I got one and absolutely love it. I installed a non cat 6401 muffler, and a sugi hara light weight bar, removed the bar spikes, put a smaller inner one on, its a saw that I really like. Youll need the double d carb tool to tune the 6421 just like the 6100.

    Im not biased towards one saw make or another. I purchased a Dolmar 6100 brand new, tried it out and then turned right around and sold it within days. I just couldnt believe why Dolmar made it so huge!? It was heavy, dumb easy start system on it, plastic clutch cover, if Dolmar could re do the 6100, put a normal starter on it, magnesium clutch cover, and make it overall smaller and lighter like the 562xp is, it would of been a great saw. Ive opened up the muffler on my 562xp, running very strong and dependable, plus the 562 just looks better. I would have never sold my 6100 if it was the same size and weight of the 562.

    • @fuelediowa
      @fuelediowa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow on my scale a 562 and 6100 with a 24" bar the 6100 is lighter. Those large mount bars add a fair bit of weight.. also I have never had to modify my 6100. But looks and feels are subjective. To me the 6100 feels better all day long. And so easy to start. 4 years almost and never a hiccup.

    • @benfeltzer4359
      @benfeltzer4359 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fuelediowa and I bet with a 28" or 32" bar it would even heavier...both the 555 and 560xp have the small bar mount if thats what you want then you'd pick one of those models. You can easily run lighter .325 bars on the 562 with a bar adapter, I run .325 on my 562, nice light saw powerful fast cutting saw. Theres just nothing you can do about the size of the 6100..

    • @fuelediowa
      @fuelediowa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benfeltzer4359 I would not want to do anything to the size. It is not as cramped as the 562 platform. With the 562, 555, 560, I feel like I am trying to cross my arms. The 6100 gives me a much better feel of control and leverage.

      What I’ve seen on the specks of the saws the husky 562 weighs a little over 13 pounds and the dolmar is over 14 pound the 562 is quite a bit lighter

      Fueled Iowa excuse my language but fuck yeah I am. Love that saw on the ground and climbing. I like how people don't know about them but when they see the damage it does, especially a Stihl lover holding an ms362 lol, they are questioning their life choices. Take it easy brother!!!

    • @fuelediowa

      nkcwilliams the pro-lite is a good firewood bar. they fall a bit short on the production side and show their cost cutting fairly quickly. but can last a guy in firewood guy many years if taken care of properly. plus being lighter is nice to carry around.

    I have a Echo 590 and a 6100. Up to about 18 inches the 6100 is faster but above that the Echo 590 starts to pull ahead

      I've had both of these in big ash. Tuned correctly. The 6100 was substantially faster with 20 inch bars buried. Holds heigher rpm under load lands down.
