Finally, some love for Cad! Great video! I’ve been playing Cad since the release of SotG. However, I chose green for it. Without ramp… Currently about 66% winrate on Karabast with it. I’ve noticed ambush to be great for Cad, notably Maul, which can be used as a finisher (especially when you ping first). Also Xanadus Blood on ECL is the cleanest answer to Fetts Firespray. Or using ECL on Zuckus if you don’t control 4-LOM. And if pings arent enough, OB will help!
Fennec Shand is one of my favorite cards from the set. Appreciate all the love you give it here. Absolutely worth building a deck around making the discard the best possible for her.
I'm so stoked for this - I really like Cad and have yet to make him work. New player question here: I can't afford Bobas but would still like to bring something like this along to a casual night. What's the next best, cheapest option for that slot? Uhhh, Jango maybe? The rest of the deck is remarkably affordable and of course Boba is a fantastic unit, but I can't justify paying for him. Any tips for us filthy casuals who still want to try something like this?
I'd look at other underworld 3 drops. Another Black Sun, DJ (if you have him), etc. There aren't that many other underworld units in that slot. Could also play some more 2 drops.
Thanks a lot for this - I was just trying and struggling to make Cad Tarkintown work - love the hero, but got overrun. Will try this out, quite a different approach. I love Hotshot blasters tho, sad to see them not in your picks.
Cool stuff :) I have been looking at Yellow and Red Villainy for a little while (Cad and Bossk) for those ping effects and this is a different take on it (Jabba and Tricks is a nice twist to a more standard unit-heavy deck). How do you find Punishing One performing? Are you getting enough re-Ready triggers, or does the statline/cost/Underworld/Space factors alone justify its place and the re-Ready is just a nice bonus when it happens? I found in some versions of my decks that I tried that I rarely got triggers unless the opponent is going Experience Heavy, so I threw some Bounties in there and it works well enough... but maybe I am leaning too heavily on trying to make a cool effect happen rather than worry about what makes a good deck.
I mostly consider Punishing One a textless 3/4 with Underworld and any readying upside is just a bonus. I think that stat line with the Cad ping is enough to justify the unit (also the 3 drop underworld units aren't particularly impressive outside of Boba). Thanks for the comment!
Sweet deck, Im working on a Jabba deck that is similar in some ways, curious what your thought is on Boba unit vs Hunter of Haxion Brood in Jabba as he almost guarantees the shield. Obviously outside of Jabba the comparison is moot
You mention claiming and one-shotting Young Han in T6. I don't recall a preferred method of removing him with the deck though. Would you suggest Ma Klounkee + Cad reaction into any other unit. Or Surprise strike being the primary choice?
Zuckuss and surprise strike are clean. You can also get chip damage on him earlier. As long as you kill him before he gets a good opening to slam Luke, or force him to play a Luke without having a unit die first. It doesn't always line up, but it's something to look out for.
Few things for consideration : 1) Bounty Hunter Initiates or Mercenary Gunships for Evazans . I Hate Evazan with burning passion, as he high isn't that hight, but his low .. oh boy, I have won games just because my opponent drop Evazan. BHI while not underworld, pairs perfectly with Greedo on first turn . 2)Mercenary Gunship. This unit is awesome. It's underworld, but what is more important, it absolutely block Sabine ability to go space. While being aggressively stated. 3) Main problem I found with relentless pursuit and Cad, is that more often than not Cad dies just after it deploys (I have a lot of Sabines and Green Hans2 in Poland), usually by ECL Wrecker. It's not a criticism, just to be wary of possibility
I'm not nearly as scared of the Evazan downside, but I do understand wanting to move away from it. I did recommend either Merc Gunship or Cartel Spacers as alternatives in the last portion of the video. I also do find Cad is pretty safe to flip due to the 8 health. Him getting hit by Wrecker is certainly possible but only if their turn lines up that way (and also isn't a huge blowout since it only splashes a bit of damage and eats up the entire turn). Thanks for the comment!
I have been playing cad red for so long now and just decided last weekend I was going on something else. The main reason is how many Han 1 decks there are right now, and I struggle against those. Force choke helps vs Tech/DJ, but that's just one couple cards, they also ramp, and that's too much. What would you sideboard against those?
There's not much in the featured SB for that match up. I do think it would be very difficult for Han to set up a DJ/Tech against this deck, as we have so much early interaction to blow that play up. I think our early game lines up pretty smoothly in to their plays and Tarkintown also blocks them from trying to cheat out a unit turn one.
You're 3/3 on decks I want to try out now. I don't have enough Evazans. Would Bossk be a decent replacement? Or would putting the Gamo Guards in be the right move?
@@rdilgart I personally don't think Proxima is a good card. It doesn't help control the board at all which is the main goal of the deck. She's easily killed or ignored.
Any consideration to use Dryden Vos at the top of the curve? Capture something with Cad on the flip and steal it the next turn or is that too inconsistent?
I saw your boba daimyo deck on swudb and am curious if you would give boba daimyo blue a try! I’ve been having a blast with it and would love to see your analysis of it
Sorry if you may have talked about these. I have adhd, so I blank out sometimes while listening. Why no proxima? Also, why not add some daring raids or open fire. Also, strafing gunship and rokai gunship instead of punishing one for a free base ping.
I don't think Proxima is very good. She needs to really go off for a long time to be worth the slot, and is easily killed or ignored. Most of the other cards mentioned feel a bit too low impact unfortunately.
I’ve tried Proxima a lot and found myself relatively okay with it in slower matchups. Even then…if she was just a unit with 1 or 2 power she would have been better. Most of my games I’m looking to tempo out with TT and cheap removal. I need my units left behind to be attacking and closing the game by turn 6-7.
In some match ups yes (when your opponent is playing an aggressive deck and will almost always play out a turn 1 unit). It's very similar to passing turn 1 when you have initiative (with some small differences).
@iamwooooo definitely with all your events. His extra pings are amazing. With Cad out, ma klunkee hits for 2, three, another two from Bossk, I love when a plan comes together. It's worked before where I eliminated an Avenger as soon as they played it against me.
@MegTheWarpsmith not if played correctly. They're usually on the back foot playing catch-up with Poe. Even if they manage to make a Poe hit, Rukh is my clean-up(timely intervention or ECL)
And than my R2 comes out and I buff it with Rey and the tarkin town thing doesn’t work anymore, won me lots of games against this deck and it’s fun because the opponents always waits then a few minutes because they don’t know what to do now 😂
I struggle to see how it would outperform other yellow villain leaders, but maybe! I think we're missing key pieces, hopefully we get some in the next set.
Being Red for only 3 cards seems terrible. Punisher and Relentless Raider is ok, but Tarkintown? Just go mono-yellow at that point and you'll get cunning and all the other goodies.
This looks very fun, and I have all the pieces. Look forward to trying it sometime.

it's about 79% to hit (math changes as you draw cards of course)
Sweet deck, Im working on a Jabba deck that is similar in some ways, curious what your thought is on Boba unit vs Hunter of Haxion Brood in Jabba as he almost guarantees the shield. Obviously outside of Jabba the comparison is moot
I think Haxion Brood is great in Jabba. Reputable Hunter and Haxon are the two biggest payoffs for Jabba in my opinion.
Do you play relentless pursuit enough to make Dryden Vos viable in this deck? I just love the idea of playing the opponents captured cards
I don't think there's enough capture to make Dryden consistent.
