    I just used this program to clone my 256mb SSD to a 2TB SSD yesterday. I meticulously followed every step in this video (I knew my PC already used GPT but I still double checked every step). The new drive would not boot when installed via SATA or USB (when I checked that option). I must have erased and restarted the process five times. Then, all of a sudden, it worked. I have no idea why. I didn't do anything different. I plugged in the drive and my PC booted. Everything seems to be working fine now, but just be warned.

    I think the drive measurements in drive thickness you meant to give are 7.5 mm and 9mm...; certainly not 1.8 or 2.5 mm, as 2.5mm is only 1/10th of an inch!

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Which part of the video are you talking about, different drive sizes... Yes 2.5 mm won't fit in a slot meant for 1.8mm, those are different thicknesses for SSDs. Yes 1/10thr of and inches is correct, we are talking thickness to fit in a very tight spot, 1 inch is too thick. Thick, not talking length or width of the drive

    Hi, I'm new here, I have a question, I'm going to upgrade my whole PC, including a new SSD, but I want to keep my HDD from my current PC. I'm going to do a fresh Windows 10 install on my new SSD. What would happen to all my programs/apps that are stored on my old HDD?, because I have read that they may not work but not sure if that's true. I will unninstall some graphics card drivers and print drivers from the HDD before putting the SSD.

    • @ThisBytesForYou

      hey bud, you are in good hands, we were all noobs at one point, we had to start some where and I haven't forgot that (I don't use noob negatively), we are a very friendly channel. With Windows, where you install the program isn't just the folder, there are hundreds of registry entries, ini entries that point to where the data is, and scattered files written through out the drive, so there is no clean way to do that. I would recommend a clean install of windows, and all the programs and such and PLEASE make sure the SSD is your boot drive, I recommend to not have any other drive installed when you install windows. Also, if this is new hardware, I highly recommend you use windows 11, its awesome. I have videos here on how to do it all, if you need them, please let me know.

    Did this migrate the OS or clone it? I think you chose to migrate which isn't cloning, was the OS on both hard drives? It says migrating to during the process too. Basically Migration does not keep Windows on the original drive, its migrates it not cloning it. If something goes wrong during migration you could potentially have issues on the original hard disk.

      I went through a complete clone here, and it worked fine, Cloning means creating an exact copy of the existing system, and migration generally transfers data or information from one system to another. They are different in the fact that if you are moving to a different motherboard and processor (HAL) from AMD to Intel or visa versa, you want to select Migration, if you are staying on the same system, do a clone.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it. As for the $80, this was just an example, if you are using a desktop, you can just install another drive, the new blank drive, to another SATA port and another SATA power connection and then clone it. On a laptop, you are a little restricted, some laptops have additional bays you can use, but very few. What are you working with and if anything, what is your budget?

    • @MichaelGreenham
      @MichaelGreenham 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's an HP laptop, budget isn't the issue as much as value. A single use 80$ is more than the SSD drive itself.
