Isn’t this real life, not HGTV? The entire house is a massive project, not everything is going to fit perfectly into one video with a tidy reveal at the end.
I'm much happier seeing how it unfolds over time. I don't expect - or want - a tidy perfect package all tied up with a bow in every episode. That's not real life. Not mine, anyway!
I love that you are decorating and making rooms livable before major work is completed so many vloggers post endless videos of them gutting the house, so boring and I always think “ what did you love about the house in the first place if you’re remodeling so much of the character out of the house “
I mean, I do understand why people do the renovation phase first, it's so much easier and faster to do it that way, and it really is the ideal way to go about a full house makeover, but I just don't have the time or money to do it that way (plus I'm not gutting the place, we're trying to do a sympathetic restoration as much as possible rather than a gut-and-replace). Now I have a couple clean rooms that I will have to constantly reclean and get all the renovation dust and dirt out of, which is less than ideal, but that's just reality for me, so might as well have a couple nice clean rooms in the place, right!?
@@ShannonMakeswhere you have the resources to have a contractor do renovations, they tend to take over the whole house, so redecorating a single room isn't really viable. Doing the rescue yourself allows the flexibility to set up single rooms as you go.
I keep telling this to the algorithm, but every time I look up “Shannon”, it first fills the page with Shannon Sharpe until I get to the M. I have never once watched anything with Shannon Sharpe.
Two things you could do if you remove the wallpaper. The nautical wall paper looks really interesting. If you can save an entire ship, why not frame it as a picture. Or, if you are able to get good pieces of each of the different layers. Frame each layer and place in a row on the wall to show the history of the house.
My mom used to move furniture by herself, even between floors of our big house, while we were at school and work. Sometimes we'd be in a different bedroom. She wasn't a big person and we were often amazed. She was a gifted and thrifty decorator! I also like the blue rug and the beautiful light in that room.
We have borrowed light windows above our bedroom doors too. I have a little cardboard insert that I put in when I go to bed. The motion sensor lights in the hallway kept waking me up when family members got up to pee. I made it pretty with flowers etc so when I take it down in the mornings I stand it on my desk as a sort of piece of artwork.
The room looks really nice! The rug is corgi-approved which is all that matters! I love the big window; it is the perfect spot for a desk. It is nice to have the transom window above the door cleared; it will bring in more light to the hallway. The furniture sliders sold are great for moving furniture. I have moved big heavy furniture (heavy upright piano, armoire) all by myself using them. I have left those under the furniture in case I need to move them to clean and it helps protect the floors.
I love what you’ve done with the place. I look forward to the day you finally uncover all the wallpapers, but until then, I love just knowing they exist. It also makes me wonder when was the last time I wiped down my walls….
So many layers of wallpaper, geez; nice glimpse of history though. Beautiful office space, and Cannelle approved! Positive thoughts your way, that you get a car in really good shape. Have a wonderful weekend.
I can tell you that it used to happen a lot. Not just because it’s annoying to remove wallpaper. Wallpaper is the best surface to wallpaper on. Especially back in the day and the glues and paper we had.
The room looks great! And I agree, having a space that is a respite from the renovation craziness is essential for your sanity. It's also a fun challenge to make something enjoyable out of someone else's choices.
if you go back and watch the original video, you'll remember that I picked it up on Marketplace, and that it's an original art deco lamp from Germany in the 30s!
Oh the memories. Those old "sound systems" used tubes, yes those tube thingies that worked (once upon a time). If the parts are all there, a 'simple' rewiring just might give you songs to work by. Fair warning, if it has the same speakers I am familiar with, start at low volume, otherwise you'll be entertaining the neighbours. 12 inch speaker on my old radio could be heard next door, not kidding.
The room turned out great, very cozy! Definitely agree with the choice of rug (and by the looks of it, so does Canelle)! Every piece of furniture I get immediately get those little stick-on pads put under their feet, so I can shove them around as I please without damaging the floor. 😅
The room looks great, it's lovely to shop in your own warehouse of items. Corgi seal of approval, for the win. I also love that your desk doesn't impede Canelle from peering out at her domain.
We're in the middle of a whole house renovation in Colorado, and every time I feel weighed down about everything we still have ahead of us, your videos get me motivated to keep going. Thank you Shannon (and Phil and Canelle!)
Those dishes are fantastic. The cracker tin is amazing. Love the old door knob. I hope the record player still works. You could turn the accounting books into a secret storage place. I love the day bed. You can keep it and make an extra bed or a couch. OMG, real tin ceiling panels, they are expensive. Great choice for the curtain. The Toulouse Lautrec pictures are a great idea. I absolutely love the one of the beautiful lady, most of his people are "not attractive", some are scary looking like that one. The final look is great.
A lovely transformation! I really like how light-filled the room is, the position of the desk, that amazing entertainment center, and a CORGI APPROVED RUG.
I had a desk like that at work and I loved that it had preset buttons so that you can program your perfect sitting and standing heights. Yours looks like it has that feature. It must be nice to have a proper office setup in your home.
Charging stations!! I went to the cheep shop and bought a tiny little metal book case, I think it's actually a plant stand or something... I put it near the power point and it's the perfect size for laptops, a Makita charger, battery storage and I even have my Dyson body and smaller parts on it with the large attachment leaning against it. It's such a cute little study you've done such a great job styling it! ❤
Funnily enough we just had one of those exact desks delivered to my workplace to replace my boss's old non-adjustable desk. Twas fun helping the FedEx guy get that through the door!

It turned out lovely! While I can't attest for this specific electric desk, I can say they're awesome! We have them at work now and it's soo good for my posture to switch between standing and sitting and being able to adjust it by the millimetre to make it work for exactly my height and the task at hand is wonderful!
Love it! This reminds me that I need to add my rug back to my office soon. Also I have a flexispot desk and I love it! I mostly use it for my computer set up but I love that I can change the height to accommodate a comfortable sewing machine position in addition to standing and sitting at my computer.

Oh wow, what a lovely discovery - so many wallpaper varieties. Hope you can save some and maybe later on you can create a collage of the many wallpapers from your house.
I have that exact standing/sitting desk in my home office and I love it. It goes up and down slowly so that nothing gets knocked over and it had quite a range of positions for shorter people (like me) or taller people. Great choice Shannon, I’ll bet you love it.
The room looks lovely! The rug is perfect with the color scheme you have in there-so serendipitous that you brought it in to protect the floor. It’s a mystery to me why people painted over/shut transom windows, they’re so good for air circulation. We had them in an apartment in Chicago and it frustrated me to no end that I couldn’t open them up when a room got stuffy. Glad you were able to get the paint off the glass to let the light through.
Great job! You've really chosen the "right" path (IMO) with an old house - spruce up where you can, and do full renovations room-by-room, as time permits.
I accidentally stumbled across an excellent way to watch this: I got really tired and fell asleep about the time you were talking about your car options and when I woke up TH-cam had the second channel video up on my recommendations. I watched that whole video then came back here for the reveal, so it felt very natural and informative ❤
The lovely big window in this room makes it such a bright and cheerful workplace! I can imagine how peaceful it would be to get your coffee and get some work done in there now that you have made it up so nicely. 😊 What a fun video to watch this little office coming together! ❤

I think your work room came out quite nice! I agree that rug was just the right color n size for it. Plus, your doggie really seems to be very comfortable on it. Nice thrift finds as well to decorate with. Great job removing the paint off window on top of door. I agree, it will help bring light to hallway. Guess that was the original thought behind it back when house was built. 😊❤❤❤
I love what you and Phil are doing with your house! So many times I wish it was real time though, I have so many suggestions! Like, my daughter has a Matrix that's currently off the road (I don't know why) that she plans to sell. (She lives fairly close to you, I believe.) Also, I work at Home Hardware and just a few days ago I sold paint to a customer that was repainting some vintage radiators. He bought them from someone on the French Shore who may have more to sell. Anyway, you filmed the latest vids last summer, I think, so this probably isn't of any use to you now. Ah well. Happy restoring! Love your channels!
Haha! I watched them in reverse order because that's what YT gave me but it was fun this way too. I too use that method to move heavy stuff on wood or tile floors. Makes good sense. The darker accents in there do help balance the lightness. Good call on the charging station. Even in the closet if there's power in there. The room finished clean and tidy and shouldn't be distracting while you are editing. Nice.
Great job very welcoming and nice balance. I love that you do it with what is at hand or from thrifting adventures this how I have done my entire home and is the reality of many of us. It looks fabt
For moving furniture solo, I recommend investing in a set of furniture sliders. They are cheap and allow you to slide on hard wood or carpet without damage. Even with 2 people, sliders make moving larger pieces easy. And I love the new room!
Your office turned out beautiful!! What a genius idea taping that box, so the scrapings didn't get all over the floor. Thanks for another enjoyable video! On to channel two!! Have a wonderful week!
For a very long time I used an old stereo cabinet (from the 70s) as a side/accent table, so this brought back some memories. I love how you styled this room and I hope it works well for your editing tasks.
I enjoyed watching this mini makeover. But am really looking forward to seeing you forage through your attic. I hoped you would've shown that in this video. I have so been longing to see what kind of treasures you find up there. I won't miss that video!
Aw..😍don't know where to start, i love this, everything!! I used an old, broken bedframe, like yours in the garden, to grow cucumbers, tomatoes would also work. Have a beautiful weekend❤
Other chronic rearranger here: you can slide furniture on carpet super easy with a cardboard footie om each foot (cardboard under foot and folded upwards and secured to itself - think a mini cardboard box per foot, or one large open top box if its covering the whole bottom.)
I am crossing my fingers that you end up with a Mini Van! I hauled a boat and a camp trailer with my Honda and it was bang on reliable and there are tons of those in the used car market. You can even pull the seats out and camp in it. Was the most practical vehicle I’ve ever owned.
Maybe use one of the cushions on the chair to make it more comfortable. If it is too thick, remove some of the stuffing or get/make a pillow form to go inside. My sewing chair always has a cushion otherwise my sore butt dictates less quilting time.
Hi, Shannon. I loved everything about this video… the desk, the record player, and all the soft furnishings! Good news about the car. I’m sending good vibrations that one will fit your specs. See you and the wonderful Cannelle next week❤️❤️
Don’t know if anyone made this suggestion for a charging station so here is mine. A basket or a box that you can hide everything inside. A hole in the bottom or back for the plug of a power bar and then everything fits inside and is hidden. Maybe even that telephone box you found in the attic could be modified to hold everything. Or if you find a box or basket with a lid you could stack your books on top so the items on the record cabinet are at different heights. The room looks great. Love the huge windows and all the light.
That came out so nice !! I love the Nautical wallpaper !! Can't wait to see the room maybe 1 side the Nautical and the other side the one underneath it , that wud look cool !! Nice desk !!
I love what you did with the room, I would change one thing. Maybe put the mirror on the record cabinet with the light in front of it. This will reflect and disperse the light. Also, might protect the mirror from damage on the floor. Overall great choices!
I just watched that whole video but there was no reveal at the end. You talked a lot.
I'd say I'm sorry for wasting your time, except that I'm absolutely not

Great decision on the rug, and also waiting to do the wallpaper reveal til you are ready to replace it ♥
💙💜♥️
Spectacular makeover, Shannon! The room looks great!
Thank you!
Shannon you should try book folding with some of those math and boring books!!! It’s super fun and really easy to get the hand of this craft ❤❤❤
Great idea!!
Other chronic rearranger here: you can slide furniture on carpet super easy with a cardboard footie om each foot (cardboard under foot and folded upwards and secured to itself - think a mini cardboard box per foot, or one large open top box if its covering the whole bottom.)
BIG improvement in that room Shannon. It looks cozy.❤❤
Thank you, it is!!
So cool to find all that old wallpaper!! Love your new desk!
Yay, thank you!
I am crossing my fingers that you end up with a Mini Van! I hauled a boat and a camp trailer with my Honda and it was bang on reliable and there are tons of those in the used car market. You can even pull the seats out and camp in it. Was the most practical vehicle I’ve ever owned.
Just not great for driving 12 hours cross-country nor for trying to find precious and tiny parking spots on the streets of Montreal 😉🥰
Lovely and cozy!
Thank you!
Those dishes are gorgeous my mom has a brown version of that blue sugar dish!
This was fabulous! I loved every moment. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Beautifully done! I love the aesthetic and the priceless corgi shots!
Thank you so much!
Exciting to see a room taking shape
Yess!
Maybe use one of the cushions on the chair to make it more comfortable. If it is too thick, remove some of the stuffing or get/make a pillow form to go inside. My sewing chair always has a cushion otherwise my sore butt dictates less quilting time.
Sending positive vibes for the car
Thank you! 🤗
Hi, Shannon. I loved everything about this video… the desk, the record player, and all the soft furnishings! Good news about the car. I’m sending good vibrations that one will fit your specs. See you and the wonderful Cannelle next week❤️❤️
Thank you! 🤗
This was a very enjoyable video. It's fun to see your process when you are decorating.
Glad you enjoyed it! Even more decorating process on the 2nd channel video too!
Wow , that ceiling is amazing! Wow!🎉❤
It really is!
Well if you find yourself in a similar room, I highly encourage you to put your mirror wherever you see fit! 🥳
The room looks very nice ❤😊😊
Thank you! 😊
I love your colour scheme and may I say the idea with the blue curtains , mwah, chefs kiss. Now over to your other channel, see you there.
Oh thank you! 💙💙
