- UPDATE: Video delayed by several weeks. Details here: • Apology Footage
Upcoming Finland vs Russia video. First segment models a long ranged Russian precision strike. With 'hypersonic' Iskanders and Kinzhals. Cruise missiles such as Kalibrs, Kh-101s and Kh-555. Followed by a Russian fixed wing campaign. Mostly Su--35s for air superiority and Su-34M for strikes. But also two regiments of SU-57s. F-35s for the Finns, with some F/A-18s kept out of retirement in supportive roles.

wow an alternate universe where russia is capable of minimum coordination and has an existing industry
You uncovered a plot point. This is not our universe, this is the alternate 'HCU' where the 2022 invasion never happens and still has all their missiles and aircraft. However, they are still:
- Incapable of coordinating complex air operations.
- Slow kill chains only able to attack fixed targets.
- Slow battle damage assessment and follow up.
- Inability for Russian VKS and GBADs to work together due to poor IFF.
Things immediately start to fall apart after the teaser segment (which is literally the first two minutes of the actual full length video).
I try to visually demonstrate these issues as I explain these shortcomings.
It's actually sort of the main point of the video. To get into why there was such a large gap between what we thought the Russians should be capable of and they could actually do.
@@HypOps I think it would be more believable that the the invasion 2022 and the subsequent war did happen and lets say it got resolved in 2024 but russia continued militarise and produce more weapons and munitions and expand its military complex, They would be pretty capable to produce a lot of new missiles and aircrafts by 2030 and ofc that would kinda resolve the issue with the low coordination, russians would just take the lesson from the war and use the knowledge and experience they aquired in ukraine to their advantage (I know that even that is hard to imagine but still it wouldnt be that far from the last war)

Nordic airforce was merged in one acting unit already 1½ years ago. Russia would not only by up against 55 F35 (second gen) but also a aditionall 70 F35 from Denmark and Norway as well as some 140 Gripen.
Also have to consider that Swedish airforce, and hence then Nordic airforce will have acces from naval radar from both surface ship and land based installations in Sweden. Any major air offensive from kaleningrad would get a good 45 minute pre warning.

None of these would be among the targets of the first strike, so that is accurately depicted in this scenario. Depending on the initial success, they are very likely to be among the subsequent targets when Russia is attacking.

Only thing I didnt agree is the Bombers releasing their payloads so close to enemy. If you look at Ukraine war, Syria and Russian training they would usually launch their missiles a huge distance away. There is a reason the Cruise missiles have such a huge stand off range to keep bombers from danger.
Correct. The cruise missiles from the bombers could be fired from an extra 1000km+ further away. This was a creative liberty for a more cinematic shot. That first shot with the panning Sukhoi took a week to coordinate. Bomber's turned right around and headed back into the Russian interior so it didn't make a big difference. Was still at comfortably stand-off range.
@@HypOps Okay well I appreciate you admitting its just for cinematic purpose. Though in my opinion would have been better to show the realistic aspect of how modern Strategic stand off weapons work with large bombers and why its beneficial and you can still make it look cool with some good editing. But either way looking forward to video.
Bombers would launch FABs with UMPK modules, but they won't be TU-160, much likely SU-34

I don't want to be mean, exaggerated perfectionism isn't something good either. You can overdo things if you work on your PC setup, script, skills and video for two years, put up a trailer 3 months before release and stress yourself trying to finish the video within 3 months, then polish the video for another 3 months now totally stressed out. You're trying to make a AAA blockbuster, this is unnecessary your hypothetical operations were already AAA amazing when you posted a video last time which was 2 1/2 and almost 3 years ago.
Just want to add another comment of pure joy because I wasn't sure if this channel would post more, and these videos are so perfect, thanks for giving us all the real christmas gift HypOps

@@KabodaOfficial Dude, I’m so lazy, it took me about a month until I finally responded to your last response and it’s only because I misremembered the date when the new video will be released, so I rewatched the trailer and scrolled down the comment section. Actually, I’m also more of a ground forces player. According to the WTAssistant app, I play 59.10% tanks and 38.19% planes. In my 2,371 hours (+550 hours on an older account), I still haven’t bought any premium vehicles though I’m planning to buy some stuff when the next sale comes around. But I definitely won’t buy the fucking F-20 Tigershark, I was upset today as it was official it will be a $75 rank VIII premium. I hope the Swedes will get a better top-tier premium jet because I’m not very interested in buying the J35XS and grinding the Swedish air tree is not the most fun thing to do. But I’ll need something when I get to play high-tier Swedish ground forces. Even though I still only am at 8.0 and I only use planes in GRB to shoot down enemy planes, because I absolutely hate CAS and have moral standards. Except for spawn campers, they deserve every evil the snail has to offer.

What a fool I was…
It doesn't bother me that he hasn't released a video in two years. He's under no obligation to me to crank out content. What I find surprising though is he still has over 100 people dutifully contributing to his patreon where he's pulling in 100-1000s of dollars a month. His own page says "Your support goes a long way in helping me produce higher quality videos more often." Like that is just plainly a lie at this point. If you only see this as a very minor part time hobby where you have no set release schedule, that is 100% okay but he should be honest and transparent about it to those who are contributing money towards his work thinking it helps him produce more often.

Almost there lads
Does this simulation take the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian Air Forces into account as well? Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland has agreed to protect the Nordic airspace like how a single nation would. So an attack on Finland, would mean that the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian air forces would all take action and join Finland in their battle.
I doubt it. It's a hypothetical scenario.
Will be interesting to see this. I just hope that the premise for this isn´t that the Finnish Defence Forces (and NATO) for some magical reason have stopped at looking what the RF is doing on their side of the border.
It's a Christmas miracle a new HypOps video incoming!

This is kinda getting a bit ridiculous like 2 years to make one video when the first two had a seperation on just a tad under 5 months. And with all of these unexpected delays and stuff I think most people have just gave up on expecting the new video, I for one completely forgot about this channel even though I loved the previous simulations.
TH-cam is not his life
@@tomejkol1 I never said it was. To boil my point down to a few words “Just be honest with us if you can’t do it in that timeframe”.
@@iamspeed1405 yeah especially when he advertises a new video but doesn't follow through on it.
@@tomejkol1 If TH-cam isn’t his life, why does his Patreon page say “Your support goes a long way in helping me produce higher quality videos more often”? Hyp Ops is parroting a false promise to maintain a regular upload schedule in exchange for regular donations. to me what´s more interesting is not actually the finnish local military answer, but the world chain reaction it would create.
it could perhaps have a real military ripple effect as far as japan. maybe even a beginning of a real world war.
Excited for this, will we see David's sling in action with f-35s?
Your videos popped up a couple times in my suggested feed and I cfinally had the free time to check them out. Super excited to see even more amazing content coming out. Though I do have a question for you on this, with Finland joining NATO will this be taking place in a scenario where while they are very close and in talks to fully join they have not yet been made offical members and as such Article 5 isn't called on, or would this potentially just be the first strike of a war against NATO, or even just NATO allies who feel strongly enough to fully go in? For example I feel that by 2030 Poland will have finished a large part of its militaries modernization and growth efforts they've started recently, and very likely join in support of Finland, even if that means they aren't able to call on NATO.
All hype no ops.
All ops no hype now
Don't worry about the delay. It's just a lesson for the future not to set ambitious deadlines. This stuff takes time, people.
Alright lets see that video then, it's been a long 3 months
Oh wow, I thought this channel was dead. Really looking forward to this one!

A notable upgrade to increase the survivability of Finnish critical assets in case of a hypothetical Russian surprise attack in 2030 is the new high altitude air defence system capable of intercepting tactical ballistic missiles and manouvering cruise missiles. Dispersal and hardening of assets is no longer the only defence against such an attack.

March is in 2 days. How time flies
Where's the video?
Babe wake up, new HypOps video just dropped
One thing I would like to stress for any future scenarios you build using CMO, is that their database of units contains many inaccuracies and/or omissions in regards to each units capabilities. These inaccuracies can greatly affect the outcome of scenarios that are not built with these inaccuracies in mind. Some big examples off the top of my head are various units/weapons not having the correct capabilities or sensors, weapons having incorrect engagement ranges, or aircraft/weapons having incorrect sensor profiles (eg. torpedoes with wildly inaccurate decibel ratings or missiles with overly large/small RCS values).
This can be accounted for via LUA scripting or even by finding duplicate units in the existing database that have more accurate configs (even if they are under a different nation). But this is something that will persist so long as you use the consumer version of CMO, and should be taken in mind if you intend to present the most accurate "HypOp". Ideally you would be able to obtain an enterprise license for CMO, as the enterprise version of CMO allows users to actually modify the configs for every unit or create their own new units, so that they can input the true capabilities of the respective equipment they intend to wargame with/against (although it appears such licenses are exclusive sold to governments/thinktanks). Because of this fact, it may simply be prudent to add a disclaimer informing viewers of this fact in the event you cannot account for the inaccuracies in a given scenario.
It’s almost here!!!!!
is Finland in NATO in this scenario?

Dude my friend shared this with me and all I can say is I'm hyped for the video would love to see you do a HypOps on the Irelands plan to invade Northern Ireland in the late 60s and early 70s when the Troubles started. Irish generals and planners knew an invasion would be pointless and wasteful but what would've happened if they did invade.
feels like you spent more time on setting up the merch store than on making the actual video. But happy to have you guys back
why haven't you released it yet its the 31st?
Damn, it's sad we still haven't gotten this
I think the central problem with this kind of depiction of the Russian Armed Forces (even if fictional and mostly meant for entertainment purposes) is why these were not employed in Ukraine. The utilization of air forces especially was extremely lackluster and casts doubt on russian capabilities. Personally I think there was probably some form of gross underestimation and downplaying to Putin at play, but this still does not explain Russia's continuing failure to establish total air supremacy and to exploit this advantage despite the nominal discrepancy between their air forces. Either the russian forces are far weaker in reality than imagined by some or they are for some inexplicable reason holding back. Ultimately the inescapable conclusion for me is that russian forces must be far below stated capabilities, and we are unlikely to see even successful Su-57 combat operations at this point, let alone deployment of T-14 Armatas at scale. Even the capabilities of russia's nuclear arsenal might be doubted, although I personally think even casting soubt on it is pretty dangerous given the immeasurable risk inherent in any assumption involving the non-functionality of russian WMDs.
They are weak. Obama literally called it out during his term. Said they aren't a super power, they are a regional power. Why people treat it as a super power is beyond me
I can understand why this looks very generous to the Russians. First segment builds them up. You have to hype them up a bit before you can knock them back down to earth. Remainder 40 min of the video is me poking holes into the hypee.
There's an entire segment explaining the optimistic assumptions I've given the Russians. Starting off with the fact that I replenished all their PGMs and fixed-wing aircraft by 2030 which I flatly state is actually impossible.
I get into other issues such as: I try to visually 'show' instead of just 'tell' when I explain these shortcomings.
- Cannot coordinate complex air operations.
- Kill chain cycle takes far too long, incapable of attacking moving targets with long range munitions.
- Poor and slow battle damage assessment.
- Inability for Russian VKS and GBADs to work together due to poor IFF.
It's actually sort of the main point of the video. To get into why there was such a large gap between what we thought they are capable of and what they were actually capable of.
This scenario appears to assume a period of recovery and re-armament after the Ukraine war. The reason Russia is not employing these assets in Ukraine is that for the most part they already did and right now they are mostly out of advanced stuff.
@asArsenic Yeah. A lot of caveats after this segment. I replenished all their PGMs and replaced all destroyed fixed wing aircraft. I state this is an impossibly optimistic rebuilding scenario by 2030.@@asArsenic
@@HypOps Of course, NATO wins as always, how unbiased 🤣 If anything, the main reason for RAF's weak approach is due to the fact that they don't want turn Ukraine into a crater. What would be the point if it is to rule over a pile of rubble? This is why deep strikes are often safer and amount to minimal civilian casualties, except if it's Ukraine's faulty S-300's falling back down on buildings after failing to intercept Iskanders and Kinzhals.
I hope you did not miss the recent acquisition of David's sling SAM system by Finland.
Judging by his Twitter, he has paid attention to it and included that in his video.
