My favorite minimal travel trip I think came from you, “minimal travel isn’t traveling with nothing, it’s traveling with just what you need” (or some variation of that). I knew that, but it still resonated most with me when watching one of your videos.
But, outside your videos, my best tip came from experience, minimal travel requires knowing how much you need before things need/can be washed. For me, that meant more socks and underwear than pants or shirts… I could get plenty of time out of a shirt or pants while the other one dried, but boxers and socks needed to be rotated quicker. I never crapped my pants or anything, but for me crotch and feet sweat the most (in case that’s what people wondered), so I was more comfortable when I could change them more frequently. Thankfully, I’m onto barefoot shoes now, so socks should be less of a concern

It depends on the diameter of your beard trimmer, but check out silicone sleeves for chair legs. Sounds weird but it stretches over the trim head like a shower cap and snugs against the body sealing in the hair sprinkles. Durable, slim and easy to wash.

Always dropping the knowledge wrapped in entertainment! Minimal Travel Tip - Strategic footwear. When I did a backpacking Euro trip I was super specific on bringing an athletic sandal with heel strap that was water appropriate and didn't look like your buddies dad's sketchers, you know the ones. This way I could walk in them for hours, wear them on the rocky beaches in Greece, and into the showers at the hostile to prevent the foot funk. Then a second pair of light, semi dressy lace ups like a nice chuka boot for all the times sandals aren't appropriate.

When I want to travel light, I will pack *everything,* including *all* stuff I wear on the day of travel (yes, including shoes, rain jacket, etc.), into my backpack. So when the day comes, the backpack is not crazy full :)

I backed this on Kickstarter, I’m a Kickstarter fiend to be honest, having backed over 200 campaigns. I come over to TH-cam and see you’ve done a video on it, I am glad I did back it now 😂
I also added a couple of the gravel bottles to my pledge… spooky 😂
    Cheers for the video buddy.

Native deodorant…I’ve got to say, works so well, but $13 a stick is absolute robbery. There are other aluminum free options that cost less than half as much.

    • @chuckmurphy7280

Agree with the cost perspective, but on the plus side for Native is that they make the absolute smallest sample deodorant options, for a couple of bucks, that will take up virtually no space in your kit, and provide enough deodorant for 3-4 four day trips. There's value is space and weight savings.

Just got back from Italy (a day in Milan😛) 18 days. Started out 85 degrees ended in the north at 50 degrees. All in our Nomad pack. You are on target! Had to buy a small nail clipper in Florence - used shampoos in small hotels. Hair dryers were in the rooms. Makeup: 1/2 inch eyeshadow. Mascara. Tinted spf lotion. Lipgloss. All fits in the palm of my hand. Merino wool from Unbound was the BOMB! Long sleeve black. Dress up or down. Great vid Chase!

I'm legitimately surprised those scissors haven't been confiscated by TSA during your travels. I've had sooooo many scissors half that size taken away in airports is Europe and Asia. One was even decorated with cows and had a child safety sheath on it and the TSA agent couldn't get it open, but still tossed it

Thanks Chase great info. I'm almost embarassed to admit I sometimes just take a razor, toothbrush , toothpaste and floss. Everything else I use what is on location or just buy it. So most toiletry bags are overkill but I combine the above with a small first aid kit to avoid wasted space.

Great video, as usual Chase. :-) Toiletry kits seem to be an underestimated part of "minimal" travel that few people cover. There are almost as many options as there are types of needs that people have. As a past backer of Gravel products, I already backed this one - even though I'm not sure I NEED it. That said, what is "minimal" travel? That could be a video of yours all on its own. Does minimal travel mean traveling as light as you possibly can? Does it mean traveling for a long time with just a single set of high-quality, flexible essentials? Does it mean traveling with everything you need in your carry-on - so-called "one bag travel"? Or is it all of the above, depending on the person or even the destination(s)? Would love to see your thoughts on a future video. 😃

I’ve been using a Timbuk2 and LL Bean Toiletry bags for years and finally decided they’re far too big for my new preferred one bag travel. I was thinking about moving over to a Bellroy Dopp Kit/Plus but these Gravel bags have me thinking I could go smaller. Funny how much we bring in anticipation of things that never seem to happen.

The travel case for my toothbrush charges the tooth brush and also a USB C for a mobile phone. They then use a charger that only fits their products. I took a battery shaver instead being a faction of the size of my rechargeable one. Electric toothbrush? I travelled for a couple of months so small luxuries away from home.

Came to say the same thing. I know Chase is a personal item size, carry-on only advocate, which he mentions at the beginning, but then he proceeds to put liquids and a full scissors into a non clear bag, presumably headed for a carry on. 1000% not TSA compliant. I don’t understand why these companies keep making non-TSA compliant travel items.
