    My favorite toiletry bag is the one made by L.L.Bean! They make them in small, medium, large, and family size. I have both the small and medium. I’ve found that the small alone will easily work for a 6 day stay or longer. It has 3 outside zip compartments, one flat that I’ve been able to pack a few pads in, two side compartments with mesh and elastic holders that are perfect for small pill bottles. It has a small carrying strap on the outside. The inside has two hooks. One that connected to a part of the bag with two mesh compartments and that is detachable (attached with Velcro), in case you’d like to solely hang it up. They refer to it as a shower caddy. How cool! The other hook is to hang the entire bag up. It has a small mirror-like thing that is removable. It has a zip compartment that’s see through and water proof, that I find is perfect to put my bar of soap and soap holder in because it will hold in any water that might have gotten on either. There are a few other zip compartments inside, as well as elastic bands to hold things in place. I have been able to hold my toothbrush, toothpaste, travel size deodorant, comb, razor, and small scented bags in it. Everything has a place of its own. It’s an awesome bag and I love it!!! Their bag is both water- and abrasion-resistant. Please check it out!

    A personal thought: Even though I love compartments in my bags, for a dopp kit, it's a must that it has a big wide internal space, to put all the liquids in a ziplock bag, to avoid any problem with TSA.

    I have to say I would have added the arcido washbag in this video. My favorite for travel and never have any issues with TSA. Comparable to Tom Bhin you feature but cheaper at $15. I even had liquids spill inside and it stayed inside and wiped out easy. I'm a woman who carries liquid make up bottles along with basic essentials so sometimes it gets stuffed but still looks new after using it many times since purchasing it in 2018.

    As a frequent traveler, I have it down to a science. I use Ziplog bags for any "plane" travel, I use Ziploc quart size bags. For "car" travel, I use a small dopp bag from Tripped that works well. I originally bought it as a electronics gear bag, but found it works much better as a dopp bag. Everything fits well and it fits great into my small Rimowa roller bag. Yeah, I know - for car travel, space and weight aren't really an issue, but I hate to lug a lot of stuff into a hotel - just my work backpack and my small roller bag.

  • @lifeandluggage
    @lifeandluggage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Osprey all the way: super light-weight, cheap and tight-fitting. I use their padded wash bag to carry chargers, power banks, cords, smart-card reader etc (internal pockets are great for earphone jacks, memory sticks & SD-cards etc) and it has contraption straps outside to secure the items in a padded shell. And Osprey "zip wash bag" (not the roll-up) as my dopp kitt: it 'stretches' over the items, has a two-way opening for the main pocket and tons of internal organization without wasting space (unlike Peak Design wash bag, which I loved in theory but have never travelled with due to the size). I loved the organization on Bellroy bags (tech and dopp), but can't justify the extra weight after trying Osprey and Sea to Summit super light bags.

    i have modified the crap out of the ikea toiletry bag, including hitting it with nicwax and hitting the zippers with a lil silicone for added waterproofing, i added a pair of elastic band using eyelets to attach an umbrella on the bottom, i padded the inside and added patches on the outside. i also changes out the zipper pulls and wrapped the handle with paracord. its an edc bag now

    I have the bigger IKEA toiletry bag (the green one) and I really like it! It is holding up great so far. They also have a set of travel bottles with a TSA pouch that fits exactly inside their toiletry bags. I have a few so I can switch out my toiletries and the different bottle kinds and sizes. No leaks so far, but some of the small cream containers don't close well.

    even with ziplock bags there's some choice. I like the ones that have a bottom which makes it possible to stand them up and just fit the toiletries with less wasted space IMO. A heavy duty version is always a good upgrade and finally the zip close vs the press and zip is much easier and gives that sense of security that it's actually closed.

    I am a HUGE fan of the GRAVEL series. I own both versions.
    The smaller one is always in my backpack; includes contacts, bandaids, daily meds, hand creme, nail file, little knife/scissors, wet wipes, anti-allergy-emergency pills, adrenaline pen, ...).
    The larger version is awesome for longer travels. And I would never ever give those guys away. I love them.
    And I never had an issue with a zipper - plus, they have a lifelong (as far as I know) return policy.

    I travelled alot for work & take 1 bag as roll - on for the plane. I was given an amenity kit on a trip & have reused this for 20 years on short trips. I use a shaving stick for shaving creme & a high quality disposable razor + cheap deodorant sticks. I use a travel toothbrush that is like a kids & know the hotels will have toiletries. I reuse the 2 x 30ml bottles for mouth wash or pack the Listerine strips. I previous used a small zip lock bag until I received this freebie at a trade show.

    Bihn 3D Cube FTW. Works fine if I travel with a safety (disposable) razor, tight if I pack a battery powered electric shaver. However I’m a “destination” traveler - I stay at my first and only hotel for the duration. So in the first couple of days I visit the local 7-11 to get shampoo, soap, hand lotion etc. - all the bulky stuff. 7-11 has small sizes so I don’t waste a lot. BTW, 3-1-1 are mainly useful for lost luggage and transit terminal sleepovers. Overflow stuff goesin my checked luggage. 7-11 on arrival or the bulky stuff in checked luggage , either strategy allows the 3D Cube to handle my transit essentials with few complaints.

    I have the Nomatic 2.0 in Large as well as the Nite Ize runoff. I use the Nomatic domestically since its the only toiletry kit that holds my Sonicare toothbrush and recharging case. Otherwise I'd have to pack that toothbrush separately in any of the other bags. If I'm traveling out of the country and want to reduce size and weight I use a foldable old fashion toothbrush and switch to the Nite Ize. As for what's inside it all remains the same, only difference is the toothbrush. Love the sonicare its just a pain to pack with the case. Case is def needed otherwise it'll go off in your kit and you can't recharge it.

    My personal preference is a putting all the TSA liquids into a zip-bag, and have a simple one-pouch bag that can have all the rest of the items laid down at the bottom AND the TSA zip-bag on top of them. Minimal weight, easy to do the TSA check, and by getting the zip-bag out of the bigger bag at the hotel, I have everything easily accessible. My current bag is actually the bag of an Air France toiletry kit I got once due to a deleted flight and it works perfectly ever since, but if I had to replace it, I would again go for a similarly simple solution.

    Something to add to the Ziploc idea - bring several in different sizes. You never know when you'll need something to keep your wet stuff separate from your dry stuff. Not to mention, they take up hardly any room in your travel bag.
    In fact, stuff that I want to make absolutely sure stays dry (like documents, electronics, medicine, etc) gets put into a ziploc or two. Backup clothes are great to keep in ziplocs too.
    They're also great if you travel with small children. Larger bags can hold an entire day's outfit and you can just put the dirty clothes back into said bag in case of a... uh, blowout.

    I use Eagle Creek toiletries bag. It conforms better to limited space, while other toiletries bags are bulky, heavier, pockets, and defeat the purpose of maximizing space.

    I've been eyeing the Aer slim pouch as a toiletry kit. These "full clamshell" dopp kits aren't great when bench space is limited and there are no options to hang close. It's gotta stand and hang!

    I think the Aer Travel Kit is perfect for my backpack travel....will TSA still accept this since its not clear as far as liquids? Or do I need to put everything in a 1qt bag until i get through security? I have PreCheck and Global Entry if that makes a difference. TY :-)

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there! We've found that this really depends on which airport you're leaving or entering. Plus, this is completely up to the discretion of the TSA officer at the time so your mileage really can vary. We do however always recommend to be prepared so having a spare Ziploc bag with you, just in case, can come in super handy. 😊

    Love the gear you guys show but disappointed here because I wanted to see dopp kits, NOT toiletry bags! The reason the dopp kit survived so long is because of the awesome design. I believe that's also why the name dopp kit survived. Therefore, I make the distinction between the two - while both essentially serve the same purpose if you're using the dopp kit bag for toiletries (I use them for tons of different purposes) I think the dopp kit is in a class of its own. I clicked on this video for no other reason than that I'm always looking for the perfect dopp kit bag. I appreciate your videos but if I may be honest, I really struggle with the speed of the info. Too fast and everything blends together. Tfs.
