Here is my reaction to Canberra Bushfires 2003 - how it happened [AH011] - The worst Australian Bushfires (Fire Tornado) Original Video: • Canberra Bushfires 200...
These were definately bad, the fires we had early 2020 were so far spraed that they were burning for months....there are some things I wish we didnt have in Australia
Australia's worst bushfire? Black Saturday (2009) is clearly the worst in terms of lives lost. 173 dead in approximately 3 hours, more than 3,500 buildings destroyed etc. Before Black Saturday there were three fire danger ratings, Moderate, High and Extreme. After Black Saturday they added 'Catastrophic'. Temperatures over 45 deg, 100 kph winds added to a very dry landscape and you have the makings of an apocalypse. Before the Canberra bushfires (2003) there were plenty of other bushfires around Australia that were more devastating in terms of lives lost, houses destroyed, land burnt etc. Ash Wednesday (1983), Black Friday (1939), Black Tuesday (1967), Black Sunday (1926), just to name a few. And who can forget the Black Summer (2019/20) where 243,000 square Kilometeres burnt, approximately 5 times the area of the Northwest Territories Fires (2014) in Canada.
I'm a former CFA volunteer. I spent almost a month working on this fire complex.
A very selfless act for your community! ❤️
A lot of those guys are Rural Fire Fighters, which is mostly, if not all, volunteers. 2020, it felt like the whole country was on fire.
So surreal. Brave men and women
