This is so true. Coming from a latino immigrant family, I am not allowed to complain, suffer, relax, take time for myself. This things can be seen as being ungrateful and/or lazy. I have had a hard time educating family members about how hurtful this is.

Those people who had issues with your accent were just being bullies. I've heard many Americans say they love the Nigerian accent and they like when Nigerians are real with it.

You truly nailed it in this video lady. I am a new subscriber originally from Côte-d’Ivoire. It’s good to show resiliency despite all these intricate quagmires immigrants have to endure in their path to stability. Thanks again!

This is very apt and well detailed. While I admit that the opportunities abroad for some people may be more than we had back home, I advocate that we have to be realistic with people in our narration of the abroad life. It is not all rosy and it is a system that requires you to remain employed as bills have to be paid.

Being in a German speaking country, although I can understand and speak quite fluently enough to take a university course or teach in that language, I still think I lack the ease, the charm, the processing speed and responding articulately as possible. It punches me in the face every time I get this feeling... You're an immigrant! But with time, it's become better. It helped me to let my ego aside and be open to learn and adapt, feels like a child learning new stuff but it's the need of time. I understand people at much deeper level now, just as a on the side personal growth. Taking the decision to live in a different country has been the best decision of my life and I feel ready to face all the challenges that will be posed in the future. Here, I need to find challenges and struggles to feel alive and purposeful, because otherwise you could just chill out and be passive and still go through life without any progress.

Wow, I love this. Thanks for sharing your experience Jayant!
Immigration is an humbling experience especially when culture and language is different. I can relate.
And like you said, it really helps one understand the world from a broader perspective 🤍

@@Tinuola and I loved your articulation in the video. I was searching for words for the feelings I have being an immigrant. You're right on the money! Feels good to listen to other someone's experiences in a similar setting. I find it really mature that you expressed both sides of having an accent, its part of your identitiy but it is important that the person in front of you understands you, so you need to learn to commuicate effectively. Many south americans, spanish natives, french have strong recognisable accent when they speak German, as I observed. They get misunderstood often especially when their language expertise is not advanced yet. Fortunately I naturally catch accents/tone of voice/melody quickly, but Africans are really tough to imitate!

Yup! 4 years in customer service & I can attest to your experience with a lot of American customers vs. Canadian customers. USA custs are usually rude & it's usually the ones with the thickest accents telling you that they can't understand you.
